Just before we are driving to Toronto and  flying to Ft Lauderdale Saturday morning , if it ever stops snowing today , I will gather some pictures from our visit to Nha Trang on Jan 24 , 2020 while we were on the Westerdam .

YES on that cruise !  We had not heard at that time any rumours yet about a Covid outbreak in China but one week after this tour we saw the first signs that something was up when we docked in Hong Kong and saw all of these people with masks and 4 days after that we were lost at sea looking for a place to land on shore and rush home because nobody else in Asia wanted to see us go on shore !

We had a wonderful tour with our guide Dung Pham to a number of beautiful places and also visited a number of places where we were between the local people .  Sorry no time today to give you names of places just some nice photos without any comments .

I think I mentioned that the mud room aka laundry room had flooded.  DH has spent the better part of an hour, mopping and cleaning up, because the cat barfed on the comforter last night, which is a huge fuzzy thing, (not the cat) and it needs to be washed.  And we are not sure if the room flooded from the washing machine or the rain, which got into parts of the walled garden by the house.  First time in 20 years that that has happened.

All of my ducks are in a row for the October non cruise vacation, three cabins all in a row.  I have to put down 50 % of the cost. I just need to know what the cost is.  That should be sent to me soon.  Yay!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the FR/Daily.

I agree cigarettes are a health hazard. No boy here to hug today, but I hugged BFF yesterday. I used to make a hot toddy when I was sick with a bad cold; not today, thankfully. Not sure I agree with the quote. I'll pass on the meal, drink and wine. I haven't been to Nha Trang. 3 important days in history, especially insulin which saved Type 1 diabetics at the time, and now helps many diabetics.

It's a bit warmer today, in the 40's, cloudy. Bad weather to come, and very cold next week. I slept 4 hours, then another hour after posting the Care List. The contractor to do the work following the water damage is due this afternoon, to take a look. Otherwise, nothing special going on.

@seagarsmoker I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope you get those second interviews next week!

@StLouisCruisers Happy Birthday to Ren! Safe travels to all your family members. Nice photos from Nha Trang.

@Denise T Good job on improving your blood sugars.

@kazu Be careful with that icy driveway. I'm glad your appointment is rescheduled.

@dfish Congrats on the Hawaii cruise balcony! Yikes on 10" of snow.

@ger_77 Brrrr.

@smitty34877 Enjoy having your DB and DSIL there.

@MISTER 67 Thank you for your service and the photos.

@RMLincoln I think people in NJ do okay in snow; I grew up there. It was a shock coming to Western PA and driving in snow with its hilly topography, when NJ and Boston had been pretty flat. Good job in finding your way around; it will take time.

@Nickelpenny Your minestrone looks good.

@marshhawk Hang in there and I hope your funk will lift soon.

@aliaschief Enjoy the canal transit. Thanks for the photos.

@rafinmd Thanks for the maps. I glad the radiation is going ok. It sounds like a nap is in order.

@sailingdutchy Great photos. Have a great cruise!

@Cruzin Terri Thinking of you and DH at the Neurology appointment today.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Happy Thursday!  We had maybe 3 more inches of snow last nite.  10 inches is in the forecast for Friday into Saturday.  Then much colder temps.  The sun just came out, haven't seen that in many days!  I'm off to get some groceries...

Haven't been to the port, the food looks interesting, insulin is a good thing, and yes, smoking is bad.

@StLouisCruisersHappy birthday to your dear Ren!

@Cruzin TerriGood luck at the Dr. today.

@kochleffelI like your commentary!

Congrats to all celebrating, and hugs to those who need them.  Have a good day!  karen

Thank you very much, Karen.

Good morning from a cloudy and windy Quartzsite.  It is currently 51F with a 18mph wind.  We got a few sprinkles, but there were some very dark clouds to the north a bit earlier.  It looks like we missed the chance for more rain.  The wind will reach 24mph this afternoon with a predicted high is 57F.

Unless our mail arrives today, I don't think we'll be going anywhere.  The mail was sent from Texas on Friday, but somehow Monday it wound up in Yuma, and since then the tracking says in Yuma, preparing for delivery.  Yuma is about 80 miles south of Quartzsite.  At least, UPS and FedEx mostly deliver on the day they are supposed to even if it is after dark.

None of our family smoke, but we know some people who do smoke, just not close friends.  I hugged DH earlier, but we'll skip the hot toddy.

Today's quote is interesting, but I don't think it's entirely true.

We'll pass on the meal, drink and wine today.

In 2018, we were fortunate to call at three ports in Vietnam, but none were Nha Trang.  @StLouisCruisers  Sandi and @MISTER 67 thank you for sharing your pictures.

The first demonstration of sending telegraph messages by Morse Code, the development of insulin and the Surgeon General's warning about smoking are definitely important days in history.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, best wishes for the appointment for your DH today.

@rafinmd  Roy, I'm glad the second treatment went well and the only side affect is being sleepy.

@seagarsmoker  I'm glad you are feeling better.  Good luck with the second interviews next week.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, please wish Ren a VERY HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY from us.  Safe travels for all your family members flying or driving in this weather.

@Denise T  Congratulations on the low fasting blood sugar numbers.  The hard work is paying off.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope your appointment was rescheduled.  You don't need to be out in the weather you're having.  I loved the last meme because we could disappear in the wires and cables behind our TVs.   When possible, I'm trying to get them untangled.

@Crazy For Cats  Jake, that saying about our pets is so true and heartfelt.  Thank you for sharing it.

@dfish  Debbie, I'm sorry River won't be with you and Sue this weekend, but everyone's safety comes first.

@ger_77  Gerry, I know you will enjoy the refreshed kitchen cabinets when you get back from your cruise.

@smitty34877  Terry, enjoy your visit with your DB and DSIL today.

@marshhawk  Annie, I'm sorry you are in a funk.  You are not the most hated person.  I wish for your sake you and your DH didn't smoke for your health's sake.  You bring a lot of wisdom and laughter to us on The Daily and are an important part of The Daily family.

@aliaschief  Enjoy your Panama Canal transit.  Thanks for the pictures.

Lenda

Lenda, thank you for your good wishes for Ren.  I believe twin, DBIL and niece Amy have just landed in Houston.  No idea how the cruisers' drive is going but at least there's no bad weather in Alabama yet today.

Good morning from a crisp clear Pacific Northwest,

@StLouisCruisers Happy 17th birthday to Ren!

We're past the threat of snow (never happened in our area) but now have 5 days of quite cold temps - for us. Nothing higher than 35 (today) and lows to 10 F or so. There are several reports of black ice this morning so glad to be able to stay home. As a matter of fact home is where I probably will be for the next several days. No-one to hug but I can hug the teddy bear that was at DH's side the last few days of his life.

Yesterday was water aerobics and a few grocery stops so I'm set to be able to be home. Today is getting some chores done around the house. I haven't packed up DD DH's clothes yet - no real reason other than other chores taken higher precedence so may start that today. I have a new kitchen sink being delivered today and when DS has time he'll install it and the new range hood finishing up the remodel of my kitchen. Still thinking about countertops and maybe a backsplash (thinking of incorporating my HAL tiles into it) but that's down the road aways.

Have a good day and stay warm!

Karen

Karen, thanks for the birthday wishes for Ren!

Tony, great photos from Nha Trang.  We also were on a cruise in January 2020 and had no idea what the next few days and months would hold.

Thanks also to @MISTER 67 for the photos which you posted of your tour there in Nha Trang.  I saw your original post before you edited to add them.  Very interesting seeing what it looked like there back in the late 60's.

Annie, it's such a shame you had the flood due to the high waters Tuesday.  What a mess for you and Chuck to clean up and try to work around.  I hope things aren't so severe tomorrow.  Your  vacation spot looks like a great spot to sit and unwind.   Good choice!

Thank you Vanessa!  I hope the 4 hours of sleep a night starts stretching out to 5, 6 or more soon.  Have you been having less pain at all?

We talked our cruise friends into booking the 2026 cruise we booked earlier this week.  They're excited and keeping fingers crossed it works out as planned.  We are too!

We went out and ran our errands and had a bite of lunch.  Still waiting to see our FedEx driver today.  Better get back to work now stitching.

It turns out I'm also a messy cook, not just a messy baker and painter.  I figured today would be a good day to make pizza for dinner.  Bubbling pizza sauce and white t-shirts don't go together.  My shirt is now dotted with pizza sauce, and the sauce even bubbled up and hit the glass on the door to the microwave above the stove top.  This afternoon, I'll get to put on the messy baker hat when I make the pizza dough.

Thanks.  They postponed it for me.  I told them there was no way I could get off my driveway in time.  Hopefully all my de-icing dries up.  Ivan and I will go before it freezes.  And, I’ll take it from there tomorrow.

LOL on the wires and cables behind the TV.  I’d like to get rid of a couple but don’t have a clue what is for what  😉

Jacqui, I'm glad they postponed your appointment.  I only work on the cables when DH is around to see what we can eliminate, then I try to reroute the cables where they are not in a big mess.

This is probably the last you will hear from us until we get back home after our cruise , I do not want to post from my iPad on board ship . Take care everybody !

Tony, thanks for the pictures form Nha Trang.  Safe travels to you and Martha, and have a wonderful cruise.

Yay!

Annie, I hope you can get the comforter washed without another flood.  Your October vacation spot looks very relaxing.

@ger_77 Brrrr.

@Nickelpenny Your minestrone looks good.

Vanessa, I'm glad you are getting a little more sleep, and I hope the amount of sleep increases.

Lenda, thank you for your good wishes for Ren.  I believe twin, DBIL and niece Amy have just landed in Houston.  No idea how the cruisers' drive is going but at least there's no bad weather in Alabama yet today.

We talked our cruise friends into booking the 2026 cruise we booked earlier this week.  They're excited and keeping fingers crossed it works out as planned.  We are too!

Sandi, I hope your family is safely in Houston, and that they brought their winter coats.  Texas is going to get hit by the winter storm, and I don't know how far south in the state it will reach.  Congratulations on booking the 2026 cruise, and getting your friends to join you.

@StLouisCruisers Enjoyed your photos, Nha Trang has certainly changed a lot since 1967. I would love to go back but it’s just too far away and as I mentioned numerous times we will don’t care for air travel.

A really quick 'Hello and good evening' from Cork.

The day has just flown by from first thing this morning when I took DS for his second dental appointment and currently I am sitting in my car with the tablet reading The Daily and posting as I wait for DGD to exit the theatre after tonights Panto performance.

Hope that everyone has a great day!

Messy cook and messy baker are closely related.  This reminds me of the time I wore the Christmas dinner gravy on my blouse.

We did our mall walk and then stopped by Meijer, along with half of Midland, in order to stock up before the big storm.  I have this feeling that we forgot something.  I'm sure I'll remember it after 6-7 inches of snow have fallen.  Right now all is calm.  I'm liking that!

That's why I make a list.  It helps if I remember the list, remember to put everything on the list, and double and triple check the list before I leave the store.

Good afternoon. I'm looking out the family room window as I sit at the computer and the sun is shining and there is snow wafting down! You have to love the Pacific Northwest. It's not enough to accumulate in any way, shape or form, and our low tonight is supposed to be 11F. The sanding truck went down my road this morning with no sand coming out of the back and the blade in the front up. I guess they were out for a drive.

@dfishand @Quartzsite Cruiserone word - apron! I too am a messy cook and baker but I always wear an apron. I make them myself and have several. They are usually made of remnants or old tablecloths. If postage wasn’t so dang expensive from Canada I would send you each one. Now it doesn’t help the messy painting though because you just can’t wear an apron for that. I keep a set of clothes for painting and you can see every colour I have painted in the last ten years on them.

Good afternoon.

Sorry to take so long to post again.

Well, my worst fears have materialized and we will have to move on from there.

The Doc said DH is in the very early stages and aside from memory, his cognitive abilities are in tact.   Physically, he is in good shape.  Doc has encouraged him to keep active, both physically and mentally.

He said that it would still be all right to travel and also for him to drive.

He prescribed Aracept. (Sp).  We will see how that goes.   There are some other therapies, but the Doc is not sure he wants to put Jim on them considering his age.

We will move forward and do the best we can.

Thank you all for all your prayers.  I cannot tell you how grateful I am.

God Bless

Terri

Eva, I have several aprons including a couple from the Culinary Arts Center.  I just need to remember to wear them.  🤣  At least, tomorrow is laundry day and I can get rid of the evidence.

Jacqui, I've left the lists at home many, many times.  Sometimes, if it is a short list, I can recreate it, but others I just wing it.  Then I go back the next day to get what I forgot.  😁

Terri, I'm sorry that your worst fears came true.  From some of the things you said, I was afraid that was the case.  I hope that since he is in the very early stages, the mental and physicals activity and the medicine will help slow the progression, and that you have more good years.  ((((((HUGS))))))

I have to thank the F&B committee… this is the first time I made the “daily” recipe on “the day”.   Had all but the lemon on hand (and was trying to figure out what to do with all the arugula I already had on hand).   Probably too carb-heavy for some, but tasty.

thanks

and 🙏 to all

@StLouisCruisers Happy Birthday to Ren.  He is quite the athlete and so handsome.

@Cruzin Terri so sorry to hear about your husband.  It is so hard to be the caregiver and you must remember to take care of yourself.  I am glad you both can still travel and cruising makes it easier to see loads of different places.

I haven't been to the port but my son lived in this area for awhile after college.  He motorcycled up to the border as well.  He managed to support himself by teaching kite surfing.  When he was visiting this past weekend one of his friends who he met there came over for dinner with her lovely baby.  She said they had a very nice community of expats and have all kept in touch.

I so enjoy reading the daily and hearing about everyone's day, their weather, planned vacations and those on them already. It is a nice break in my day which for the last couple of weeks has been very hectic.

Aww Terri, I am sorry to hear this 😢

I hope your DH’s prescription can help him or at least postpone what is to come 🙏

Please remember to take care of yourself as your take care of your DH.

Well, well.  Someone from FedEx actually dropped off my package at 6 pm.  It was simply some enlargements and prints of some recent photos so not too important.  But they rode around on those trucks for two solid days!  Hope my driver is getting overtime today!

@MISTER 67 we don't care for air travel either anymore.  I'm hearing that a lot around here.  We've been booking mostly FLL cruises, with a occasional flight to or from Boston.  In 2026 we will have to fly to and from Los Angeles but we are going all the way to Australia and back!

Midland has a Meijer store now?  That's great!  We didn't have big stores like that back in the 1970's did we?  There was a Kroger, though and a Giant supermarket.  ((I think that was the name))  That was a long time ago!  Hope you don't get as much snow as predicted and it's cleared quickly.

Terri, so sorry to hear the news is what you thought it would be.  The good news is it's early stages and keeping active along with medication may keep this at bay for years.  You have time to cruise together and enjoy your later years.  Hugs and prayers to you both.
