Good morning and Happy Monday. Another sun shiny day. Thinking of those who lost their lives serving our country on this Memorial Day. We usually put our flag out but Craig says it needs to be replaced. I need to remind him to buy one. I like it for Flag Day.  We are going over to DM’s for lunch today. They are serving ribs, one of my favorites, not sure what else. 
 

Memorial Day usually marks when we get in the pool but it’s still too cold. Our overnight temps are not warm enough yet. Also it hasn’t been 100 yet. Hopefully this week. 
 

The MOD looks good. And I read the port wrong and thought it was Glacier Bay in Alaska, then saw Sandi’s post and realized that it was Glacier Alley. Thanks to all for your pictures. 
 

Roy @rafinmd, I’ve been meaning to ask about your hand. Has it healed up so you don’t need a bandage?

Good morning, Dailyites.  Memorial Day weekend in the States always meant the Seattle cousins would come up for a visit.  That ended a few years ago, but we miss them.  Victoria is crowded with visitors for the Swiftsure sailing races this weekend, too.  So we stay home!  We are going to leave tomorrow for a few days in Bellingham, taking a long shopping list.  

 

There has been a lot going on here for the last few days, and I haven't been posting, but reading when I can and thinking of you all, my friends.  I am waiting for the results of biopsies taken last week, so I wouldn't mind a prayer or two, myself!  They said 5 days, and I keep checking my health app, just in case.  Nothing yet, though.  I have an appointment to see my doctor on Friday.

 

We went through Glacier Alley on the Zaandam, too, but it was in 2017.  My pictures are like those already posted.  We saw the Brujo Glacier in all its glory.  Or you could go to Alaska!

Pretty much.  I still put on a bandage in the morning for protection and wear it as long as I am out.  Morning and night I add some bacitracin.  I am just home for the day and took off the bandage and there was a small red spot.

@JazzyV Dry Needling is intramuscular therapy. As @Seasick Sailor said, it's similar to acupuncture in that needles are used, but go deeper into the muscles. Needles are inserted into trigger points and can be done w/or w/o stimulation (think tens unit). When I have the deep needling, I frequently get a twitch response when the needles are inserted and mostly have the stimulation as well.

I have not seen any benefit from acupuncture, but have responded well to dry needling. It has done wonders with headaches from neck issues and apparently is a game changer on my frozen shoulder.

MEMORIAL DAY

 

 

 

A very late good morning from a partly sunny central Texas.  It was foggy here until after 10am.  It is 87F and slightly humid with a predicted high of 93F and a heat advisory.  This morning I made a lemon-blueberry Bundt cake with the rest of the blueberries.  While many still settled to the bottom of the pan (top of the cake) a lot were spread out in the top half of the cake.  I tried a trick I'd read about, lightly dusting the blueberries with either flour or cornstarch.  I used the latter and it seemed to work.  I also made the deviled eggs to go with our fruit salad and air fryer fried chicken for tonight's dinner.

 

I noticed Ann @cat shepard caught my typo which added a new day to January. 🤣

 

When we were young, we used tanning oil or lotion instead of sunscreen.  I've been lucky to have only had one basal cell carcinoma, and a few places frozen.  I do my best to remember the sun screen when I'm working outside.  Old-time player pianos are interesting and getting hard to find.  We have a new fangled player attached to our piano that uses 3.5 inch floppy discs; so it's not that new now.  I don't remember the last time I had a popsicle, but I preferred the cherry ones.  We used to get the ones with two sticks and split them.  Now, the are just single popsicles.

 

I totally agree and love the John Lennon quote.

 

We'll skip the meal (kale and chickpeas), the drink and the wine, but only because of the price.

 

We have sailed Glacier Alley twice, once pre-digital and once mostly at night.  I would love to sail Glacier Alley during the daylight hours.

 

The 1940 evacuation of Dunkirk was a huge operation using almost every boat England could find to save as many lives as possible.

 

@MISTER 67  I was sad, but not overly surprised to read that Grayson Murray took his life after learning of his personal battles.  I hope his family and fiancé will be able to move forward without too many thoughts about what they could have done.

Tempranillo is another grape that is pretty hard, if not impossible, to find in California vineyards.  About ten years ago I read that Texas was thought to be a good environment for Tempranillo. and multiple vineyards have been planted.  Wines from those plantings are now coming onto the market.

 

A few weeks ago I picked up this red blend wine at my local Costco for $10.  WOW, for $10, this wine is terrific.  I was very pleased to see that they still had it on my last visit a few days ago, and, so, I bought three more bottles.

 

 

 

While there is no disclosure of the grape variety of this red blend, Dry Creek Valley is, definitely "Zinfandel Country."  So, I would imagine that this is a "Zinfandel heavy" blend--not unlike the Lytton Springs bottling that I discussed a week, or so, ago, which is also located in Dry Creek Valley.

 

Notice on the front label that Pedroncelli Winery has been "family owned since 1927."  (A California winery/vineyard founded by Italian immigrants.  What a surprise.  NOT!)  The third generation of the family has been operating the winery since the 1990s.

It has brightened up here, but still is quite windy. My power winked off briefly, not sure why. Just enough to need to reset a few clocks on appliances. The slow cooker is now full with chicken taco chili, for me to take some to BFF tomorrow.

Remember when the wine of the day was a Pinot Blanc from the Mosel and you mentioned the association of the Finger Lakes with Riesling?

There is a winery here founded by a man from the Mosel region who chose the site because the climate and soil (shale) were like back home, and so he thought that it would be perfect for making Mosel-style wines.

Good afternoon on a partly sunny and cool day. High today will be around 70F but temperatures are due to rise next week. I have been enjoying the cool although it it pretty chilly in the mornings.... hovering just above freezing.

 

Have started some heavy house cleaning which entails moving furniture, mopping floors and washing rugs. Slow going with just me but it needs doing. The dust has gotten way ahead of me. And I need to haul the dog crates out to be washed thoroughly. Dogs prefer their open beds so I may get rid of a few. It is good to have a few extras as I found day before yesterday when my neighbor and I found an old, blind chihuahua wandering in yard. We secured her in one of my extra crates and when we could not locate an owner we sent her to humane society. She has been claimed...and she came from not far from us. Seems to the family did not realize she had slipped out of the house. When we grabbed her she was walking  toward a busy street. Glad my doors to the outside are double doors but even then dogs have gone walk about in the past. Anyway, a few extra crates stay.

 

Otherwise quiet here. My downstairs neighbor is excited about her first ever cruise coming up in  a few weeks .... Alaska on the Eurodam. I hope it goes well for her. I have never done a really short cruise as I feel that with all the trouble to get to port, at least 2 weeks is needed to make it worth while for me.

 

Better get back to work. While rug is washing and floor is drying I will pack up some stuff for the thrift store and haul it to the car. Anything out of here is to be celebrated.

It's hard to beat Costco prices.  The winery sells the very same wine that I posted for $24.  Buying from the winery is usually more expensive that buying from a retail store.

 

If you don't mind the imposition, give the Zinfandel a try.  As I said, Dry Creek Valley, is Zinfandel Country.  OK, any Sonoma County area--Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Moon Mountain, Rockpile, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Valley--is Zinfandel Country.

we visited local cemeteries today.  Found graves from locals from various wars dating back to Revolutionary War (there is a DAR cemetery a few miles away, and several others with tributes to those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice).
