The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday September 1st, 2024

Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit

Good Morning from an overcast and rainy day at the beach

      Cant believe we are in September! Times goes so quickly!

We were in Fakarava on the Eurodam in 2019. Pretty little island. We just walked down their "main road" and went swimming. My pictures are somewhere, will try to find them.

       @Cruzin Terri   a very Happy Birthday to you. May you enjoy many more.

          @RMLincoln  Extra prayers today for your granddaughter. May God give her the strength she so needs right now.

          @lindaler, @richwmn @Seasick Sailor @USN59-79   Have a wonderful and safe trip.

        Carnival Mardi Gras was late coming in this AM,there will be some missed flights on that one. If everything is perfect, you can be off and on your way quickly. The airport is 45 minutes away on a good day. But ....

      @cat shepard Did you have any side effects from the YF vaccine?

Stay safe and enjoy today

     Charlene

I'll post my photos from our dinner last night with Rich @richwmn and Sue first, then will read all the posts.  It was a very fun time and we really enjoyed meeting Sue.  We like her Rich!  And I'm so glad she will be on our 28-day Alaska cruise next summer.  🙂  We enjoyed meeting Connie and Steve too (they were also on the GANZ, and I remembered seeing them around the ship but never met them during the cruise).  They were staying at the same hotel that Rich and Sue were, so joined us for dinner.

Saying goodbye to Sue and Rich at the end of the evening. Aren't they cute?

The food was good as well as the company:

Rich had the French Dip

Three of us had the Fish & Chips

Connie had the Broccoli and Cheese Soup

And I had the BLT

Just starting the day out here. Little fog around the valley and hills. Should clear up as we head to the Oakland Zoo in a couple of hours.

sleeping with windows open is quite the novelty for this Floridian.

Will spend some time time this afternoon catching up on the Daily. Have a great day.

Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit!

Good morning and welcome to September. We're supposed to be up to 80F today and then cooling tomorrow.

@Cruzin Terri Happy Birthday!

Bon Voyage to @richwmn, @lindaler, @USN59-79 and @Seasick Sailor

Today is my DIL's parents 50th anniversary celebration. Before I even had my first sip of tea the bread machine was started for dinner rolls and should be beeping at me in the next 10 minutes or so. The bread machine is one of those appliances that I don't use often but I love it when I do.

I need to leave by around 11 as it's about an hour drive to the house that's been rented for the weekend. I'm looking forward to it.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning. Happy Birthday @Cruzin Terri!!!

I was up and muttering about rabbits at 3:00 this morning due to some motorcyclists out for a predawn spin.. I did manage to get back to sleep and the dogs left me alone until 7:30 when Bandit began to try to roll me out of bed. Good dogs. Bad motorcycles.

Little new from here. I don't have any real plans for the day except staying close to home. I want to get a  couple of boxes shipped off this week and that will take me awhile to organize and to pack so that hopefully nothing gets broken. Tuesday morning I have an early morning (7:15) lab appointment and then my calendar is remarkably clear for awhile. I am sure I will find something to fill it.

Take care all. I will think of you as I wrap items for shipping in bubble wrap!!

ON the subject of letter writing. I'm still a die-hard and like to include a letter in birthday cards especially when I'm paying for postage to Canada!

I still send postcards when I cruise and not just to the "greats" aka as the great nieces and nephew (ages 4-11). I send them to adults as well. I also have a penpal in England who I've been writing to since we were 10 (5th grade) which is now 61 years. We've never met but still write at birthdays and Christmas. We started back in the days of onion skin paper and air mail!

I sent out just over 20 grad cards with Starbucks cards enclosed to former students and received just 2 thank you's in response - yes - 2.

The bread machine is beeping. Off to punch down the dough and form the rolls.

Welcome home Lisa @LAFFNVEGAS and Marcia @dobiemom!  I know you both had a wonderful time!

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday before Labor Day.  To all our Daily friends boarding the Westerdam today, Linda @lindaler, Rich @richwmn, Joy @Seasick Sailor and Allen, and Ray @USN59-79 and Sara, I hope you all have an easy, quick embarkation.  I also hope you’ll send back some great photos of your get togethers.  Meanwhile everyone, stay safe and keep well.

Couldn't have said it better myself, so I'm quoting rather than retyping.

@ottahand7 what exactly are we looking at in the picture? Never mind, it does say brisket at the very bottom.

Years ago, when we first retired, we were told or read somewhere that there are three stages of retirement: Go-Go; Slow Go; and No Go. After DH fell and broke his hip in April, we have definitely moved into Slow Go. And we have reluctantly realized that No Go could present itself sooner rather than later. This has changed our travel outlook somewhat and we are definitely more Bucket List/itinerary oriented now.

In November, we are trying Viking Ocean out. We will start in Istanbul (at last!).The smaller ship will take us to many new ports (for us) in Turkey, Greece & Italy. We originally booked for Holiday but the air portion was a little too challenging and moved the date up. This booking was a direct result our Holiday 2023 sailing on the Rotterdam, which was overrun with unsupervised children and their boorish parents who abdicated their responsibilities. Thankfully, we had a balcony cabin to retreat to. But screaming babies in the Tamarind took a toll. As did the man who casually tossed our friend's scooter (a medical device) aside in order to frame a family photo outside the PG. It seemed every venue was overrun. Etcetera. Of course, the staff were absolutely wonderful despite being woefully overworked. Consequently, advertising stating 'No children, No casinos' hit its mark afterwards. We'll see how it goes.

I will now retreat back to Lurking status. Virtual hugs to you all,

-Cat

Unfortunately "slow-go" can hit even before full retirement.  And "no-go" was a reality for Dear Dad, and that was a big reason I wasn't around CC so much, even though I enjoyed sharing in the excitement of other peoples trips, it also reinforced our inability to do so, it was even harder on DD, he had to look at cruise ship commercials that are near constant in Jan/Feb.

I sure hope you don't have a repeat of the cruise with all the unsupervised children.  I don't do holiday sailings because travel is such a headache at busy times of the year, now I have another reason to avoid them.  I did do a Mexico cruise once in January thinking I was beating the holiday rush, no such thing, and unbelievably the parents didn't think it was a big deal to pull their children from school for a week to take a vacation, when I was a lad that kind of thing was unheard of except for maybe medical issues.

Glad to know DH recovered from the broken hip, an injury which often puts people into "no go".

Good morning all!

Another beautiful day in paradise.  Up to the low 80's again and lots of sunshine.  What a beautiful sail away day!

I'll celebrate all the days today.  The only ginger cat I've had was when I was a teenager (his name was George) and my DD had a ginger cat (Parkour) who has also crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  In the distant past I was a great letter writer, but then arthritis in my hands put a stop to that.  Now it's emails and cards.  Not sure about the quote, will pass on the meal and drink but would like the wine.  We were in Fakarava on the GANZ, we used it as a rare beach day.  (Rare because we aren't usually beach people) but it was a great day.

Not much on the agenda today, mostly resting up for a busy week.  We do have to do a grocery run though.

Welcome home Lisa @LAFFNVEGAS and Marcia @dobiemom!

Bon Voyage Rich @richwmn, Linda @lindaler, Joy @Seasick Sailor and Ray @USN59-79

Happy birthday @Cruzin Terri!

Welcome to the Daily @wdw1972!

Prayers for your DB and his granddaughter Nancy @ottahand7

Sending hugs to you Lorraine @cruising sister

As I said, we used our day in Fakarava as a beach day.  We walked down a path/road and found a fairly secluded beach -- it was lovely and oh so nice and the water felt so good!

I was too before stroke made handwriting difficult, typing is easier, and it's a big reason I enjoy the daily.

Rabbit Rabbit White Rabbit

A lot of bad dreams about Dear Dad last night, it happens once in a while.  It's not that anything particularly bad occurs in the dream itself, it's the confusion upon waking because they are so real.  So it's been a slow start to the day for me, but I'm staying home today, no errands and only light chores, perhaps even some pampering like a long soak in the tub.  For now I will continue to enjoy coffee and pastries and reading the daily.  Once the holiday is over it's going to be busier catching up from the missed day, and at the end of the week I have my ultrasound to check my carotids, so prayers please for that.

Next Sunday the annual memorial at the nursing home for people that were in their hospice program takes place.  I've been looking forward to this.  Dear Dad had a full orthodox catholic funeral with all the bells and whistles, while it was very beautiful and moving (the cantor never stops singing until the final patch of grass is put in place on top of the grave) I really had no say in how anything was to be done nor would the priest have deviated even if I had asked.  I'm glad I was able to give him his final wish, but it was difficult for me and other family members, a few commented after they had never been to a funeral quite like that before.

Lots of people coming/going on ships today, so safe travel everybody and have a lucky rabbit first day of September!

~Bruno

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily. Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit.

Building and Code Staff keep buildings safe. I know many here will celebrate ginger cats. Letter writing is becoming a lost art, as others have said. I agree with the quote. I'll pass on the meal (unless without the eggplant), drink and wine (although I like an occasional German Riesling). I haven't been to Fakarava. 2 good days in history.

We had quite a lot of rain starting yesterday afternoon, followed by flood warnings. As luck would have it, my cactus that blooms once a year, at night, chose yesterday. It was pouring rain, and I didn't go out to take pictures. It was almost closed by this morning. I have a second one that has 2 flowers forming, so I should get another chance. I haven't felt well this morning; my stomach is upset. I've barely sipped my coffee. I have been taking ibuprofen for a sacroiliitis flare, so maybe that caused it. Always something. I've shaped my sourdough bread this morning (I used some rye flour in it this time, which makes it stickier), and it's in the fridge for its cold fermentation. I'll bake it tomorrow. So sad to hear about the hostages that were found dead.

@Cruzin Terri Happy Birthday!

@lindaler Bon Voyage!

@richwmn Bon Voyage!

@Seasick Sailor Bon Voyage to you and Allen!

@USN59-79 Bon Voyage to you and Sara!

@LAFFNVEGAS Welcome home!

@dobiemom Welcome home!

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for starting up the FR/Daily today.

@doobieb Sorry to hear about all the family members with Covid. Stay safe!

@TiogaCruiser Safe travels home. Thanks for the Montreal photos.

@wdw1972 Welcome to the Daily!

@Ichiban Nekko Nice to see you posting Cat. I feel I'm in the Slow Go category now, due to some health issues. I agree that itinerary has become more important. It sounds like you have some nice cruises coming up. I sailed on Viking before it had ocean ships, doing a river cruise in China.

@ottahand7 I so sorry to hear of DB having to go to the ER again. I hope they can figure out what's going on and treat him. And prayers for DB's DGD with her diagnosis; hopefully that can be fixed as well.

@RMLincoln I hope there's good news about DGD and baby soon.

@cruising sister It sounds like you and your friend are good for each other. Hugs.

@Lady Hudson I hope you stay well.

@rafinmd Thanks for the photos of Fakarava.

@Cruising-along Thanks for sharing photos of the get-together in Seattle and the Fakarava photos.

@luvteaching Enjoy the celebration of DIL's parents' anniversary.

@durangoscots I thought about you when I heard noisy motorcycles at 1AM when I was trying to sleep!

@atexsix Sorry to hear of the bad dreams. I hope your carotid US is ok; I just had that done, looking for a cause for my dizziness and imbalance issues.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Thanks.  I hope yours went well, as well as can be expected I suppose.  My biggest fear is they'll tell me I need surgery.  And after the year I've had, it's not something I need right now.

Good Morning Dailyites!

Even though I have evolved into 'lurking' status on the FR&D, I do read it most days. Some of the best writing and caring on the internet, IMHO.

However, DH recovered sufficiently that we were able to take our long-planned trip on the Rocky Mountaineer in June. It was all we had dreamed of. Truly wonderful. Obviously, we are heartbroken when we see updates about the dreadful fires that have devastated parts of Western Canada, particularly Jasper.

Of course, the staff were absolutely wonderful despite being woefully overworked. Consequently, advertising stating 'No children, No casinos' hit its mark afterwards. We'll see how it goes.

And we will return to Rotterdam for it TA in April. Our memories of a previous TA on Koningsdam are happy ones. We are looking so forward to this.

DH has decided he would like to return to Thailand, the location of his first overseas assignment. We found a cruise starting in Bangkok (we can arrive early) with stops in Vietnam (another at last!), Singapore & Bali next year. It has been a long time since we have been in SE Asia, so it will almost be 'new' to us!

Throughout it all Dailyites, I continue to follow your adventures, triumphs and tragedies. Absolutely the best laughs around.  This group lifts the spirits and is so kind, so supportive to all comers. During the dark days of the Pandemic, it was a safe refuge. Since that awful time appears to be in the rearview mirror (yay!!), this special place is still a delight. And many new contributors are bringing new points of view. I don't want to mention names because I would leave some wonderful people out, but I would like to think of when we saw Camilla's first photos and the smiles she brought. Comments about 'The Frozen Tundra' still make me laugh. And RNB is a champion of the Bon Mot!

I will now retreat back to Lurking status. Virtual hugs to you all,

-Cat

Great to hear from you! And thanks for the kind remarks! I just try to tell it the way I see it. We are kinda in a similar situation as y’all. Our favorite song has become a Simon & Garfunkel hit, “Feeling Groovy”; “Slow down your moving too fast, you got to make the mornin last”.
