You have to be very thick skinned to post on these boards, I understand, believe me!  I have been ripped to shreds more than once for what I felt was an open, honest, legitimate question or comment.  Now, if I write anything at all, I try to be obsequious which goes against my grain but hey, people can be scary.  People write things on the boards that they'd never say in person face to face, or what they are writing, comes off in a clipped, abrupt and seemingly rude manner that I HOPE is unintentional.  Persevere!

As I understand it, Royal is considering implementing the non-smoking casino fleet wide.  Currently there is no smoking in the casino on any of the Oasis Class ships.  Sounds like they are moving to how the casino on Celebrity is rather than the other way around.

I believe this is the article the OP was mentioning.

Sadly, smoking remains a tough addiction for many to beat.  I can't imagine the torture many smokers face on international flights - especially to places like Australia - and you often literally see them running for the smoking areas in an airport even after a short flight.

So...I'm compassionate to their plight and trying to also balance that with enjoying a cruise vacation - especially with sea days keeping them on-board and needing to adhere to cruise policy.  With that said, I think Celebrity's policy is perfect - no smoking indoors including the casino. Decades on from removing (mostly) smoking from restaurants and airplanes and other shared indoor spaces, we ALL are better served and can MUCH MORE greatly enjoy our vacations (and dinners and flights).

It's another "premium" sort of thing where keeping all parts of the ship smoke (and stink) free is a great thing, and my guess is most folks are happy to pay to offset X's casino "losses" in exchange for smoke free sailing.

You don't have to worry about them the tobacco companies have all kinds of smokeless products.  They (PM) can't make this one fast enough, Zyn brand.

Once I read it officially from the RCG for their RCI ships fleetwide or Carnival Corp on their Princess ships fleetwide or actually see no smoking in the casinos, is when I'll believe it.

I'm not sure that is correct, but if it is that must be a relatively new policy as on our Oasis NYE cruise this year there most definitely was smoking in the smoking area of the main casino.

What Oasis does have, however, is a smaller non-smoking casino next door to the Crown Lounge in what used to be the Jazz club.  This is what is being added on Oasis class ships as the alternative to the main casino to avoid the smoking area.

They may in fact be headed in the non-smoking casino direction, which IMO would be good.  But I don't think any of the ships have made that move yet, with the exception of departures from Australia and the UK, as I understand it.

If there is now no smoking on Oasis class, that is a recent change. We were on Oasis last August and they had just implemented a very small no smoking  casino, not near the main casino. They took the jazz club, Jazz on 4, and converted it to a non smoking casino. It’s about a tenth the size of their main Casino Royale. They did this to all the Oasis class ships. The main casino was half smoking half not, with no physical barrier between the two areas. The smoke easily drifted towards the non smoking part and the casino bar on the middle may have well been a smoking lounge.

Having smoking in the main casino limited our play, but I’m sure they didn’t notice 😜

my bad it was on another site, that's what happens when you read things at 2am with insomnia. As I can't mention the site I've copied the contents of the post

"Morning peeps, im Here to sadly upset some people. I’m DEVASTATED TOO so don’t worry!!

So this morning we have been informed by high up staff. (Bar managers & staff captain) That ALL inside smoking areas (casino & cigar room) on (ALL MSC SHIPS!) - this is all sadly coming to an end TONIGHT! 15/10/24 is the LAST NIGHT you will be able to smoke in the cigar room & casino. They are closing the cigar room for the next 4 days (cruise 16/10/25 -20/10/14 for revamp)"

Wow!  That is great news!  MSC is my next cruise ...

I highly doubt this is accurate. There are roped off non smoking areas but the smoke will waft to just about everywhere within the casino. I will say that it had t been to bad on any of our MSC cruises.

I witnessed at least one person smoking in the roped off non-smoking area on the Seascape on both legs of my recent B2B.

There was definitely smoking in the main casino on our recent Symphony cruise.  Yes there was also a small separate smoke-free casino as you describe.  It seems to me that the large casino should be smoke free and the small separate casino for smokers.  Wouldn't that make more sense since the vast majority on ship are non-smokers?  Anyway my vote for Royal would be to adopt the Celebrity smoke-free policy.  It is time.

Agree completely.   But I believe I read somewhere that there is a study indicating that apparently the majority of the more serious gamblers are smokers versus non, and that having to leave the games to have a cigarette somewhere else reduces the chances of them returning to play. More likely they will remain in continuous play if the venue permits smoking.  All $ driven.  But Celebrity's casinos seem just as busy......

I have to comment as definitely, there are several non-tobacco options - ZYN is amazing, has changed my son's life.  A nicotine addiction is no joke, but at least eliminating the tobacco, eliminates the cancer risk - so that's a huge win!  Yes, very strange about ZYN and not being available, he's found alternative brands thankfully.  Sorry to digress from the main topic, but indeed, a product like ZYN is an excellent non-smoking alternative that people can use anywhere at all on the ship.

Yeah I've read similar things but how do you prove that connection?  I've seen plenty of serious gamblers at casinos (land or sea) not smoking.  Honestly I've seen a lot of smokers in Royal's casinos playing penny slots vs being at the tables.

I don't know, but the proof may be in the fact that RCI (and others) continue to allow smoking in their casinos.  Self fulfilling prophecy in that if you allow smoking it will attract more of those gamblers who do so.  And just the opposite with, for example, Celebrity.  More non-smoker gamblers are attracted to them for that reason.  Who knows?

It is interesting that RCI has, over the years, restricted smoking everywhere else on the ship other than with outside designated smoking areas (as Celebrity) but continues to allow it in the casinos.

If Celebrity is mostly adults and Royal is families with kids, how doe that coincide with smoking policies?

there must be away to have segregated areas with superior ventilation.  as long as there a physical or spacial barrier between areas, the segregation will work.

I don't recall tables/casinos being that bad on RCCL (for non-smokers).  Yes, there are times that I have had to walk away from the casino because I couldn't find a seat at a n/s table.

It is easy to design a smoking area, but it is expensive to install 😉😁

The casinos on RC are horrible for non smokers. I can’t take even walking though them and certainly can’t gamble in them.

It would be difficult to segregate the smoke without a totally separate ventilation system. Not sure that would even be possible on a ship. The best and cheapest way is no indoor smoking. By now the nicotine addicts who are left should be used not smoking indoors. The gamblers who are addicted to gambling will continue to to gamble if the casino is non smoking and those of us who would like to gamble every now and then for fun likely make up for any difference if there was less smokers gambling.

I guess it depends on the ship and the sailing and time of day ....  I'm sensitive to smoke and the only casino that was so bad I couldn't stay was on HAL.
