Can you buy Tim Tams in USA?

Recommended Posts

No, haven't tried the Tim Tams-as-straws thing. How un-Australian of me. Just like not knowing what Drop Bears are...:D

Google “Drop Bears” and the answer will be revealed. There is even a Wikipedia entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_bear

But, briefly, unlike the cuddly, tree-dwelling Koala (not a bear) Drop Bears are attack mammals (like the jackalope), which are similar in appearance to the Koala. They live in trees and drop onto unsuspecting people who pass underneath, then attack them. Naturally they are a well-kept secret in Oz - so as not to upset the tourism industry.

Fair dinkum Emma, I have never heard of these Drop Bears! What a crack up - I will have to use that on our trip to the US in February!!!!:D

Fair dinkum Emma' date=' I have never heard of these Drop Bears! What a crack up - I will have to use that on our trip to the US in February!!!!:D[/quote']

But don't include the jackalope reference as that will give the game away, at least to people from some states.

Look, I just don't believe that works, I think it is just an Australian urban myth. Like drop bears... :D Emma

The OC team (Orange County Choppers TV Show) visited Sydney and were escorted around by a guide who told them about Drop Bears! It was the funniest thing, they were scared to death always looking up while riding their Harleys. :D

If any Americans are coming to Brisbane, I will gladly swap you some Tim Tams for Almost Home chocolate chip cookies-the soft gooey ones! Or peanut butter soft gooey cookies!

I couldn't find a brand called Almot Home but found this recipe.

Almost Home Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 cups brown sugar (not packed)

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup shortening

2 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla

3 cups flour

2 tsp. cream of tartar

2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 pkg. (12 oz.) chocolate chips

In bowl for an electric mixer, cream brown sugar, butter and shortening together well, using medium speed. Add eggs and vanilla and beat in well. Add dry ingredients and blend just until mixed, on low speed. Stir in chocolate chips. Roll in balls, or drop by heaping teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350º for about 12 minutes, until golden brown. Remove to wire racks after about 2 minutes. Makes a large batch, but they never seem to last too long!

I do remember those from the eighties when I went to live in the US. Sad to say Nabisco discontinued them (I Googled this) so cactusrose's recipe is the next best thing.

I have been very intrigued by this thread, so much so, that when I went away for the weekend and was shopping at a Pepperidge Farms Store in Lancaster Pennsylvania I was floored to see Tim Tams. I have never seen them before but, just had to buy some. They are produced in the United States by the Campbell company which owns Pepperidge Farms ( they make the Goldfish Crackers). I have yet to open the box, but feel that I have discovered some hidden treasure. I can't wait to try them!!!:)

What is Pepperidge Farms calling them? I just looked at the whole line on their site and nothing they show looks like Tim Tams.

Hi B&C's Mum...

I couldn't help but think of you yesterday when I saw your cookies at the grocery store (Soby's - a fairly large western Canadian chain). They were shelved right amongst all the other cookies; not in the specialty foods section, so I presume they must be fairly common here - not that I've ever noticed before.

Happy Sails

OMG.. this is one of the funniest threads I have ever read... I have been sitting here reading it all... and laughing out loud very vocally... so good.... I'm not a sweet tooth... thank heavens... or I would be addicted by now!!! My passion is for the occasional bit of organic white chocolate. But having just come back for 3 weeks in the states, I was craving my vegemite... even American everyday bread is sweet, I know it's what we all get brought up on, but I am a salt addict... only himalayan pink salt for me... healthy and not like table salt, (google it!!!)

I have tried the new vegemite...you name it... I think they should market it in America... not salty and tasty enough for most Aussies. I will never buy it again.

Cheers all...enjoy your timtams....

Eileen, it's really all your fault. Hiding them in the freezer was a great idea, but now I only have two left. Wonder what happened to them.

Anyhow, I just sent Pepperidge Farm an email inquiring as to where I can purchase them locally. Like I really need to do that.
