  1. Newbie question I know that if you book another cruise onboard that you can book with a much lower deposit, I think I read £175 per person? Are there any other benefits to booking onboard such as extra obc? Is it possible to pay a deposit and have it applied to a cruise at a later date?
  2. Be interesting to see if Anne has pop ups, as she will already have more speciality restaurants. What is the cost of Pop ups on the other ships?
  3. When available the shore excursions will show up in My Cunard. There may only be a limited offering initially but this will be added to as you near sailing.
  4. I’d like to think we are “resting” celebrity while trying another line. Once things settle down we shall look at X again - but not if the only offering from Southampton is Edge class.
  5. We are booked for May 2024 and no info re Gala nights on My Cunard yet.
  6. We have booked our first cruise on the new Cunard ship Queen Anne. We were pleasantly surprised at the price - (although they do not do all included so you need to factor in the daily service charge at least). At the time we booked Celebrity was doing a similar cruise but 3 days shorter on cruise only was £1500 more than Cunard. The X price was similar once X introduced 75% off 2nd guest. we like that room service is free, and even available on embarkation. It seems that it will be a relaxed experience. Looking forward to the afternoon tea and watching the ballroom dancing - which seems to be a real thing on Cunard. The excursions seem very well priced with a lot of choice - there are currently 82 excursions for a 14 night cruise, ranging from £49-£169. Drinks seem to be well priced. Entertainment gets good reviews. They have speciality cruises which may include the Royal Shakespeare company, the Royal ballet, and British celebrity chefs. A recent cruise had Mylene Class and Julian Lloyd Webber. All at the usual prices. Take a look at the Cunard pages on Cruise Critic - you will find very few complaints - a refreshing change from X boards.
  7. I couldn’t open the link posted at the start of the thread. Try this one - it’s from Aug 22 so maybe not up to date. Legendary wines on page 4-5 https://www.cunard.com/content/dam/cunard/my-voyage/pdfs/qm/qm_wine_list_aug_2022a.pdf
  8. Lovely name, and beautiful picture.
  9. I’m trying to decide the best way to go with wine. The wine by glass seems a little restrictive. If we bought a bottle can we drink it at a couple of dinners in the Britannia dining room?
  10. Thank you for this. As we have booked our first Cunard cruise next May it is reassuring to read your comments. It confirms we have chosen the right line to transfer to from Celebrity. We are going on Anne, so I’m hoping internet may have improved on the new ship.
  11. Would your GP give you an “in case” prescription?
  12. That would mean a charge of $2520 for us on a 14 night cruise that’s just under £2000. The cruise is only costing us 5.5k!! No way.
  13. We parked there overnight before a cruise earlier this year. My only concern is that it is not secure. Cars were coming and going and people continually walking through the car park from the dock to the town and back. I’ve not heard of any security issues for cars parked there, but it did make me cautious of parking there for more than the night.
  14. We last cruised in June. It was a 7 night cruise. We had a dining package for 4 nights. The other 3 nights we went to Sushi one night, MDR one night and buffet one night. The MDR was horrendous - so loud I couldn’t hear my husband on the other side of the table. Food was poor - meat was tough and mashed spud gloopy. The buffet for dinner - we walked round and round trying to find a meal. We eventually chose chicken paella and beef stew. Most of the chicken was already taken so it was 99% rice. The beef was boring and tasteless. So glad we had the dining package, but you shouldn’t have to rely on paying extra for speciality restaurants to get a decent meal.
  15. This is one of the main reasons we have decided to rest X and cruise with Cunard next year. It is so hard to trust a line that is continually making cuts and experiments to what they offer. It seems even X management have no clue as to the direction they are headed. We shall wait until things settle down before considering X again. A decision we made with sadness having enjoyed cruises with X in the past and despite being disappointed with our recent cruise with them.
  16. The new celebrity edge class ships have 16 single occupancy cabins.
  17. We recently booked online. The obc showed in the section detailing what was included in the Cunard fare. Confusingly it shows per person not per cabin and we only realised once we had booked and had double what we expected - a nice surprise.
  18. I think 5 years is a little harsh. There were a number of years that I couldn’t travel because I had a sick Father to care for. There must be a myriad of family and work reasons that may prevent you from taking a break on Cunard.
  19. We have done go green on our last 2 cruises, the latest in June this year. We had one full clean every day and a turn down service with chocolate on the pillow and towels replaced if necessary.
  20. I’m looking at it from the point of view of the guests. X would appear to be in trouble with the regular guests. I have no doubt X will continue to sell. It seems that many of the loyal guests who have sailed with X forever are having second thoughts. There’s no doubt X is changing. Time will tell whether it remains a line we still wish to sail with.
  21. Now I know X is in trouble when Jim starts looking elsewhere. Have you thought about Cunard Jim?
  22. As a newbie who will be a red top next May - I am more than happy for loyal regular cruisers to have a few extra perks. Hopefully that will be me in a few years!
  23. When we contacted the exec office in February we got a phone call back. I suggested they read these boards to see what people were concerned about, and was assured that there was a team who regularly monitored the boards. Things have worsened since then so I’m not sure that will still be the case.
  24. We are booked onto Anne’s 2nd cruise next May. The gala dates aren’t yet showing in the calendar in My Cunard. When will those details show? I’m looking forward to buying more evening gowns and am curious as to what themes will be on our cruise.
