I tried a test run. Looks like the ultimate balcony dinner is a form of room service and you'll have to wait until you're onboard. I guess that makes sense, it's not like you're booking a table in one of the restaurants.

I've included some 'fine print' from the Princess web site. It's not 100% clear to me that the excursion credit can be used as a regular OBC but it seems so as they pretty clearly say it can't be used in the casino... kind of implies it can be used elsewhere. Also, I'm not exactly sure if Princess would use this credit to pay down excursions purchased prior to the cruise rather than charge them directly to a credit card.... I believe, probably yes. $100 Shore Excursion credit per guest will be applied as an onboard credit. Offer is applicable to all guests (up to 4) in a stateroom. Guests with single occupancy will receive double the per guest credit amount. Shore Excursion credit may be used on a single voyage only, is not redeemable for cash, cannot be used in the casino, expires at the end of that voyage and is not applicable during the land portion of cruisetours. Shore Excursion credit is based on the ship’s onboard currency.

I'd say you'd be better off with fixed unless you're prepared to have your dinner early; the two-tops fill up quickly.

Between the postage cost and sending electronics (probably not manufactered in the US) to non-US addresses it's likely too expensive, unpredictable and would probably run afoul of import and duty rules. I can wait until arrival at the cruise terminal but my wife will miss out on an opportunity to properly accessorize until the ship's shops open.

I guess you'll be flying DFW to BCN. I suggest you check Air Canada Premium Economy; it will connect through Toronto (YYZ) and is as fast, time-wise, as anything else you'll find, comfortable, and reasonably economical (less than 1,000 USD).

I'm not unhappy about using the Medallion app to check-in, but I do want to complain! How come Princess will ship the Medallions to US (and PR) addresses, but not to Canada? I think it's unfair that I can't wear that thing around my neck until I get to Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks @sloopsailer I haven't sailed on Princess for a few years but booked a cruise yesterday. One thing I discovered PDQ, is that I needed to delete the version of the Medallion app I had on my tablet and reinstall.... the app had not been updating as is usually the case. It worked great and, like you say, pretty straight-forward to get my wife and I in the Green lane along with dinjng reservations and a few other things I needed to take care of due to not choosing the 'all included' option for our reservation. We don't drink so an a-la-carte approach to covering soft drinks, gratuities and wi-fi ended up saving us about 800 USD for a 15 day cruise. Also, the PC worked fine too, but I thought I'd give the app a go mainly out of curiousity.⁹

Thank you, those look interesting. I usually enjoy the production shows Princess puts on; we've been doing Celebrity cruises for the last few years so I'm sure we'll be seeing new shows this time around.

I don't think port or starboard makes much difference. At just about any scenic destination, the captain turns the ship about for passes on both sides. Personally, I don't care for aft cabins and wouldn't book one.

Is the dome kept closed because it provides an 'advantage' for home runs or because it 'increases the possibility' of home runs? If the former, that makes little sense, if the latter... one could argue that a home run is just a single hit but provides at least one run scored. Hits (especially doubles and triples and plays at the plate) are more exciting (at least to me) and still require the team to manufacture an RBI for, at least, the base runner.

So, I guess what you're saying is that there is no way to forecast which side of the ship will be dockside over time and attempting to choose a cabin based on this unpredictable situation is pretty much a waste of time. No doubt there are some specific itineraries where it may be possible, but not generally.

Changing the requirements for who can cruise (I guess this would be 'dropping all the protocols') is not an indication that cruise lines believe Covid is over. It's more about making money and their efforts to manage their risk.... often at the passenger's expense.

I don't know how your husband could possibly get a CoR without the associated initial positive test result. You're probably OK but he's likely going to have to take his chances with a pre-cruise test much like most of the other passengers.

I don't know where you got the Wilmington location from but the World Cruise Center is definitely in San Pedro.

The Elizabeth Line runs from T2/3 to T4.
