ChrisB123 Posted October 2, 2022 #1326 Share Posted October 2, 2022 I was just wondering about this thread and curiosity got to me, seeing as it's over 53 pages long. It's 53 pages of people saying how much they dislike the smell of smoke! I just find it a bit funny. I thought something had changed. It's been this way for many years now, only about 4 places where people smoke. I always saw on the maps they gave you, where it was a smoking area. Just a thought. 1

People were upset again after the restart because they opened up areas in the aft that had not been smoking areas before, mainly crew areas, because they couldn’t be huddled together to smoke. (Covid) This smoke was going right up to Aft balconies and Suites. Also, crew was allowed to smoke in their covid cabins, which drifted into other balconies. The casino was no smoking on the restart and now it’s back to smoking. Except one side. And, there had always been 1 night, on formal night of no smoking. They took that away. So, rehashing no smoking is a big concern for some whom have spent thousands of dollars for vacations or those who are allergic or those who would like to enjoy the casino without smelling the stench of smoke in their clothes. Although, it doesn’t do any good to rehash, it’s not going to change. So, I’m done. 🤔 JMO

People are going to complain about the smell of smoke. People have decided that the smell of smoke is the worst odor in the world. People are going to smoke. Some smokers are courteous and discreet. Some smokers drop their cigarette butts on the ground right in front of an ashtray. As JMO says, there's no point in rehashing the subject. Give the smokers information about where they can smoke on a cruise ship, and allow the people who are bothered by smoke to avoid the area. Not sure why people continue to read this thread, except to express themselves. Nothing is going to change. People are going to smoke. 5

If you have that situation you would understand. I do not mind the smoke in the casino as we never go there. I do mind it leaking out into other areas. If the wind is right you can still use the outside smoking area and that is fine.

It is fine when a cruise ship defines smoking areas that are separated so passengers can avoid those areas. Princess had done this fairly well in the past. However, one of the biggest complaints is the casino, an entertainment area for all passengers on the ship. Just as other passenger entertainment areas are non smoking so should the casino be non smoking. Princess places the possible loss of revenue above the health of its passengers and more important their own casino employees. Imagine this job posting. Position available: Low pay. Job requires long work long hours during which you will be breathing second hand smoke and damaging your immediate and long term health. Job can cause serious illness and result in death.

I couldn't agree with you more. Smoking in the casinos should be banned, starting tomorrow morning. Smokers belong outside or in special well-ventilated 'rooms' like Europe does. We do not belong in the casinos, or any other part of the ship except our designated area(s).

Learningtocruise1 Posted November 16, 2022 #1341 Share Posted November 16, 2022 Does anyone know if on Sky, Deck 7, aft Starboard is still an outside crew smoking area? I booked a mini-suite on Deck 8 just above that area not realizing a smoking area was below. Earlier I was changed to a Guaranteed mini, expecting to be moved forward where mini's are showing available. Today I was moved back to my original cabin (E709). DH and I cannot tolerate cigarette smoke. I'm still trying to get moved forward. We sail Nov. 26.

san diego sue Posted November 18, 2022 #1344 Share Posted November 18, 2022 anyone know how far up on starboard side aft the cigarette smoke can be smelled? We just moved from Emerald deck aft to Caribe starboard aft because we heard about the crew smoking area.I am sure the wind can be a factor too. Anyone know? davekathy Posted December 10, 2022 #1345 Share Posted December 10, 2022 No smoking in any indoor venues with Celebrity, fleetwide. 👍👍 RC only allows smoking in the casino AKA smoking lounge fleetwide. We haven't cruised with Princess since 2010 and surprised to read Princess ships still have limited inside smoking areas.

Alberta54 Posted December 16, 2022 #1348 Share Posted December 16, 2022 We had the unfortunate experience of having an aft cabin on deck 10 on the Crown. We paid extra for a wake facing cabin to have the view & enjoy the balcony. The moment we stepped out the patio door of our cabin we felt like we were in a chimney filled with smoke…and not just cigarette smoke either! 24 hours a day we were assaulted with a strong smell of smoke. This resulted in being unable to use the balcony we paid to enjoy. Apparently Princess has created a large smoking area for crew that spans at least most of the way across an aft deck on various ships. On the Crown they roped off the entire aft portion of deck 7 for smoking. So not only did we contend with smoke but also could not walk the promenade around the ship anymore (the Crown being an older ship had a promenade deck you could walk laps around- the newer ships don’t have that). A review on this forum has documented a smoking area across the aft portion on the Discovery Princess Sun deck. I tried to get a response about why smoking had been expanded on ships from a loyalty representative. The only answer I got was “we are trying to find a balance”. Balance for who? Already there are many complaints about half the casino allowing smoking & now Princess has expanded the smoking areas with no regard to how this negatively affects passengers. Seems this is just part of Princess being tone deaf about many concerns that are mounting from passengers. 1

Rare cruzin4us Posted December 16, 2022 #1350 Share Posted December 16, 2022 This isn't new. Since covid the crew has been using the aft section of deck 7 as a smoking area on many of the ships. On the Ruby in June, this is where the crew smoked. However, in November they no longer smoked in this area but there was a smoking area for the public on the starboard aft section of deck 7.
