Just booked 2 weeks on the Caribbean Princess in May heading to the Mediterranean! Can't wait!!:p

We have booked mini suite D217..and I think by looking at some photos that the balcony is not covered.....any thoughts? Can other balconies above look down on you?

Also, does anyone know what is playing on MUTS? This will be my 21 year old daughter's first cruise on Princess (our second) and I yak all the time how nice the MUTS was and how much I enjoyed it (with popcorn and cookies!) Husband doesn't like going...so I went by myself last time :o

Also, I know they have changed the smoking policy to exclude balconies (I am a non smoker) but I hated walking to the theatre in the evenings having to go through the smoke filled casino. Do they still allow smoking there?

Thanks for the info!!:D

Yes, Smoking still allowed in the Casino. There are some non smoking nights. I'm a non smoker and it really isn't much of a problem to walk through.

Personally, I am not a fan of the Dolphin deck balcony. Yes, many decks can look down on you as the balcony extends beyond the ship from the floors above. There is no protection from the sun.

Personally, I prefer the much larger caribe deck balconies which are half covered and half uncovered.

You are on the ship for two weeks, so the mini will give you a bit of breathing room from you cabin mate(s).

If is really a personal choice. For me, the balcony takes precedence over the extra interior space, two weeks or not.

If you spend any time in your cabin, the balcony cabins have one comfortable chair only. The minis have a comfortable chair and a sofa.

Yes, people can look down on the Dolphin deck if they are standing at their railing, but if you aren't doing anything interesting, they won't pay much attention to you.

Try to get over thinking those above you are looking down on your balcony.

We almost always book a Caribe deck balcony cabin and never look down on those below us. It's just not that interesting. Think about it...do you spend a lot of time looking at people on other balconies?

There are very few balconies on a ship that are truly private.

We love having mini-suites on Dolphin Deck! :)

Having no cover isn't a problem because it's all dependent on the direction & angle of the sun anyway.

Remember, if you can look down and see me below, I can look up and see you! ;)

See if there are any mini suites available on Emerald Deck. They are all covered.

The last cabin on each side also has an extended, huge balcony!

Also try to get an odd numbered cabin. The even numbered cabins are above the bandstand in the lounge. (Which will only affect you if you are early-to-bed people. All entertainment ends by midnight the latest)

Speaking of covered balconies, we have a minisuite on Marina deck on Royal. We are directly under Horizon Bistro and I understand it extends out to the edge of our balcony. I've never had a completely covered balcony. Will it feel dark or claustrophobic? I'll sit out there anyway, I'm just wondering what it will feel like.

Smoking in the Casino is a major problem because smokers congregate there since it's the only indoor smoking area. If it's cold or windy outside the smokers use the casino. Maybe Princess will ban this smoking and spare us non smokers/ allergy suffers/ copd people/ from their second hand smoke.

We had a mini-suite on Marina deck on the Royal last November. I am sorry to tell you your concerns are justified. The deck is right over your head and you don't get much sun. As it is narrow as well, if you have a tendency to feel claustrophobic, you might want to reconsider.

Now for the good things. You can sit out there in a downpour and not have much of a problem. The view might be considered better as you can see further, being so high up.

All in all though, personally I'd avoid that location on subsequent cruises on the Royal, Regal, and whatever the next ship will be named.
