Hump Cabin Warning

We got off Serenade in November, and the noise in the Centrum was so loud, we couldn't hear the elevators chime! So glad we got room 1100, a corner aft JS.

On those ships, they have a large open space from deck 4 Centrum all the way up to deck 10!

Schooner Bar was also loud before dinner with music trivia. They had the volume cranked up to the max, and no quiet drink before going into Chops or Giovannes.

They could close the hall way doors. Maybe Ask for that to do be done at a proper hour? 11 PM?

They did on that on a Serenade but I don't think it was done on our 4 Jewel West Coast last Fall.

Perhaps it isn't allowed anymore? It s Very Loud and not desirable if trying to sleep.

Yikes. We just booked 8102 on Jewel the other day. It's just on the other side of the elevator as yours. I did my homework, and most people mentioned the noise, if they heard any, was over by 11. I really wanted a larger balcony.

All the afts on Jewel don't accommodate 3 people. I can't get a larger balcony there.

Can you tell me if you have lounge chairs on your balcony. I know it's a different ship, but hopefully Jewel will be the same if we don't switch cabins now. I'm so disappointed.

We had 8102 on our last Brilliance cruise. It was very convenient to the elevator and had the huge balcony which we didn't like at all. No sun in the room and the view of the ocean wasn't good from inside the room. The noise from the centrum didn't bother us much, we used ear plugs when we slept.

We will be on it again to the Med this year, and we chose a room further down the hall with a regular balcony.

Editing to say that There were no lounge chairs on the balcony

How's the noise on the other side of the hump where it's not open air?

Much better because of that wall, expect maybe for the cabins right across from the openings. That's why we always book a judiciously-chosen starboard hump cabin on a Radiance class. :)

Excellent thanks. We're in 8594 on Brilliance in May (I thought it was 8596 for the longest time). I'll re-visit this thread after the cruise (or during).

Was in 7108 in May on Radiance and heard no noise from the centrum. Absolutely loved the balcony and would book the cabin again in a heartbeat!

We have always had hump balconies on Radiance Class ships and have never had noise issues. So wonder if this is fairly new. We were on Brilliance in Nov with a hump balcony and we had no issues with noise at all. We were on Deck 8

We were in 8596 on the BR and while there was some noise from the Centrum during the shows at night, it was nothing compared to when we were in 8588, which is across from the hallway opening. There is a speaker directly next to the opening into the hallway and it is LOUD.

We were in 1554 on the hump on Serenade last year. They did a good job of keeping the fire doors closed after about 9:00 in the evening which took care of the noise from the Centrum. What the door didn't block was the smoke smell from the casino which somehow drifted all the way up to Deck 10. It was really very pervasive on all levels of the Centrum and the hallways nearby. Every time we opened our cabin door I looked around to see who was smoking.

I am writing this while aboard Brilliance of the Seas. We booked a hump cabin, #8088. Do not book this type of cabin if you want to sleep before 1 a.m. The bands that used to play in nightclubs now play in the centrum of the ship! The noise in this cabin is so loud! Horrible.

The guest relations person told me all ships do this now with bands.

We are onboard with you. When we met you at the pool bar the other day and you told me that you had that cabin I thought "Oh no I hope the noise does not bother her". We had that cabin once and never again. We make sure we are at least 6 or more cabins down from the Centrum like Bob said.

We have been on Jewel, Brilliance and on Serenade in november for ten days. The hump cabins on every floor have the noise problem. All the sound from the centrum radiates and echoes . Even so bad on serenade this last time closed the fire door at the centrum but even with them closed the first 4 o five cabins down the halls had loud music and could feel the vibration from the base. We Like hump on freedom class, just had JS on Hump on Allure in Jan. but the Radiance class you have a sound problem. Bob & Nancy The Villages Florida

Just call the guest relations desk and ask for them to close the fire doors. Problem solved. There are fire doors all around the centrum.

They closed the Fire Doors on Brilliance and that created another noise problem. People would open them and they would SLAM shut.

The noise issue is more prominent now than it used to be due to the speakers that have been installed around the Centrum area on all floors. We've noticed this on both Radiance and Vision class ships.

isn't that always the case, solving one problem just causes another

I have cabin 8586 booked on Serenade for April. I don't understand how the noise from the Centrum filters all the way out to the balcony or is it just in the cabin where people notice the noise? Am I missing something?

That side on this class of ships is much noisier because it is open and has all of the elevator banks. Also, the opposite side has a wall the extends up to the top deck and its shape tends to focus all the noise in your direction.

We are currently on sister ship Serenade. We originally had a hump cabin, 9584, but were rewarded with a big surprise from the upgrade fairy two weeks before we left. We ended up in a JS 1546, which is what Bob mentioned, about 6 down from the centrum. Couldn't be more happy, and cabin is very quiet. :)

We recently switched to 8102 on the Brilliance TA in April when it became available. My wife was worried about the noise. I said not to worry and the balcony would be awesome. I hope she does not read this thread! :D

We didn't like the balcony at all. Way too dark and you can't see the ocean from the room like on regular balconies

We didn't have this issue, when we sailed on Serenade. They would have bands and music playing in the Centrum most nights, but they would close the doors between the Centrum and the cabin hallways, and that seemed to do a good job of keeping the noise down in the cabin areas.

Obviously, based on the responses here, it can be a problem at times, but I just wanted to share our experience for those who may already have a cabin booked near the Centrum. That's certainly not a guarantee that you'll have noise issues.

I was in 8102 on Radiance in 2014. We had no problems with sound. :)

Thank you, this gives me hope.

Can you please tell me about the room configuration? We have 2 kids with us. Is there a pullman and small sofa or just a double sofa bed? Did you have a lounger on the balcony? Thank you.

They did put a sign on fire door saying it will be closed at 10 pm. Guess what? People open the door and do not shut it behind them!
