We Won The Free Cruise

You're just an idiot, plain and simple. So it is "charity" or "welfare" because we played a game that was offered by the cruise ship and the prize for winning was a free cruise. Please tell me how that is "cruise line welfare"?

Glad to know you would never win a free cruise. Hopefully you do not play bingo or go to the casino. Because if you won anything, you would be hypocritical..

Hopefully you'll enjoy the rest of your day. Happy Cruising.

He's new, hasn't grasped the simplicities of humor just yet.

Congratulations!

I won a few years ago, well my 11 year old son won, but I snatched the card from him and yelled bingo.

Didn't take him or my daughter on the free cruise. Did feel a little bad about leaving them home with the grand parents.

Enjoy your cruise. Ours ended up costing us about $1000 after upgrading to a balcony and paying for onboard expenses. Still much cheaper than if we paid for all of the cruise.

Was it Big Daddy Cash calling the numbers?

I'm curious about the taxation. I presume it is reported to the IRS. What value is used? I was on the Anthem last week and they bingoed off a Royal suite (with butler) as a prize. I was wondering about the taxation of that since they said it was a 14k-17k suite (can't remember exactly).

I can afford to pay for my cruises. I don't accept cruise line welfare!!!

Now we all know we this country is in such bad shape...

Does anyone have humility anymore?

I once used sarcasm online and the fallout was clearly my rock bottom. I made the decision to join SA . The first step is admitting they have a problem. Remember we are powerless over others inability to detect sarcasm. [emoji8]

Details details details.... So first OP - congrats.... However -- details..

1). Did/will you get taxed ? (What country are you from?)

2). Airfare?

3). Room type?

4). Grats covered?

5). Cruise fare taxes covered?

I'm super interested in what it ends up costing you... Best case if you get a nice big credit to do with as you choose and you can take the opportunity to pay the extra for a Sky Class or better cabin and enjoy the luxury living.

When I won several years ago there was no mention of taxes. I did not receive any sort of 1099.

It was valid for an interior stateroom. I was responsible for gratuities, taxes, and port fees.

You receive no credit towards Crown & Anchor status, even if you pay to upgrade to a better room category.

That is very exciting- congrats! Somehow the cruise is a bit more fun when it is free. Enjoy!

I've never won the free cruise, but did split 2 jackpot bingos on a couple of different occasions. Nice cash amounts; helped pay for the cruise.

No 1099.....that's good news.

I always told my DW that if she "won" the cruise it would cost us more (fed/state taxes) than booking it ourselves. I figured that Royal would value it much more than the price available.

Congrats to the OP on winning the cruise. I was on the 5 night FOS and won the free cruise, it was for 4-6 nights, does anyone know if they will let me upgrade to a 7 night (if I pay for the upgrade)?

I won a RCL Pen & Pad at the Meet & Mingle once. :D

The best part of it was they announced my board name and two couples from the roll call came over to introduce themselves. We've shared multiple cruises w/ them since. It was truly a great win that day!

Congrats on your FREE Cruise. How cool is that!

If OP is a US Citizen, the winnings are taxable as Earned Income IAW the tax code. Does not matter whether you receive a 1099 or not. You are still responsible for the tax liability.

That's the law. Now, whether you claim it or not is completely up to you.

The amount would be the published brochure rate.

OP, mistakes are made sometimes. We read something differently than what the poster meant. I am sure we have all done it at one time or another. Live and learn. Come back and tell us more about the cruise. Congrats on your bingo wins.

In previous wins a free cruise won at bingo was for an interior on the same ship. Can you now really use that on any ship?

When we got off of Anthem were we given a 50 percent off future cruise. It was clarified that it was 50 percent off of what we had paid for the cruise on Anthem. We could use it on ANY cruise and ANY ship.

Won a cheap, mesh ball cap once on the Royal version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. Answered an easy question related to centuries wrong TWICE! The question was something like "In what century did the war of 1812 happen". If I recall correctly, I completely blanked and said 18th century. When told to try again, I then remembered that the 1900s were the 20th century, so I confidently said that 1812 was the 17th century. :o They were bound and determined to give me that hat!

Congrats to the OP. Hope you have a great cruise.

The last day on our trip (9/30/2016) on Adventure of the Seas, my g/f and I were playing Bingo.

We won the first game of $162

Then we won the last game which was the free cruise! We were sooo excited. It is a 7 to 9 day Caribbean cruise to be used next year on ANY ship!!!

Congrats! Looks like it was your lucky day!
