Rare John&LaLa Posted February 14, 2017 #151 Share Posted February 14, 2017 And...they're gone! They pulled out about 5:15 Eastern Time minus those who opted for a refund and left. Should be a nice three nights. She's really gone now. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app

knittinggirl Posted February 14, 2017 #156 Share Posted February 14, 2017 Southern Florida is a hub for maritime supply vendors. Those lifejackets, even if they needed thousands of them, were in stock in warehouses in Miami or FLL. Chandlers don't stock 5 or 10 of these things, they know that when a ship needs lifejackets, it would be a minimum of 50 for a cargo ship, and thousands for the cruise ships that regularly call there. I have my suspicions that the USCG found some "non-approved" jackets as well as some worn or out of date ones. There has been recently some USCG notices regarding "counterfeit" lifejackets that have been supplied to many shipping companies, by many reputable vendors, and it requires close inspection to note the counterfeits. Many of these have been found with fake USCG approval stamps. Who on the ship is responsible for checking the life vests? We were delayed till day 3 in Galveston due to fog. We were told we could leave the ship, but if the weather clears the ship's leaving. About 800 people left the ship on day 2, and the remaining cruise was much nicer and so much less crowded. While the people who left got future cruise credit, those that stayed only got port charges refunded for our missed port. When we had to turn around several hours out of Galveston due to medical issues, we still made the Cozumel. Ships can really move when they need to. cruising nole fan Posted February 15, 2017 #159 Share Posted February 15, 2017 How does this happen! People are out the cash they spent traveling to the port and getting ready for the departure, if the decided to get off the ship. I would be so pissed! That ship is old as hell, I guess that is what you get for booking on such a tired boat. I feel bad for everyone that got screwed by Royal Caribbean on this one. Simply amazing. coaster Posted February 15, 2017 #160 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Majesty is not that old. Only close to 25 years old. Midlife in regards to well maintained ships. Stinasmom Posted February 15, 2017 #161 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Curious to those on this ship while it was still docked (or any other that stayed docked for a long period of time)... The news report I read said that those onboard were enjoying food, drinks, entertainment, and SHOPPING? Don't the shops have to stay closed while in port?Wouldn't they have to collect and pay Florida state sales taxes if they did open and operate while at the port? Just wondering. Very glad they all got off safely and will enjoy the rest of this cruise as planned.

put me on a ship Posted February 15, 2017 #163 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Hi I this Jetty Park? Is it walkable from the ship/ Jetty Park is about a mile from the pier (from the new terminal). So, yeah, you can walk there and back, but it's a pretty good trek, and you would have to deal with some busy roads.

Thorncroft Posted February 15, 2017 #165 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Ok, John, I went to GO TO on top right and selected the arrow for next page (3) and it went back to page 1 original post. Next I selected the GO TO and entered page 4 since it now says there are 5 pages and again it went back to page 1 post 1. Go to user CP>edit options and change your view to 200 ppp. Then you'll only have 1 page.

seaman11 Posted February 15, 2017 #170 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Onboard the MoTS. Failed Coast Guard inspection due to faulty or missing life jackets and other problems. Can't leave port until tomorrow. No activites, shops closed, no live music. This blows. I think Capt. Matthias is going to have a bad time with corporate very shortly. Not liking this ship at all nor this cruise so far. And this is coming from someone who loves the small ships. Grandeur is my favorite. i was looking for cruises recently even on this ship and something told me no , the reviews arent too good, Grandeur is also my favorite and i have been on her twice. good luck hope it turns out better

ducklite Posted February 15, 2017 #172 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Thanks John... this article says nothing about end of service life (a date).... this is a good example how FAKE NEWS on Social Media is adopted and then passed on and on... Here is the quote... (now this may be FAKE as well) In a statement issued Tuesday morning, Royal Caribbean said: "Yesterday, the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a routine inspection of Majesty of the Seas. They came across some technical issues, including some outdoor life jackets that were showing their age." (not expired) Use your own mind, do your own research.... who is to believe on Social Media anymore... The fact that the cruise line doesn't have an adequate program in place to replace life saving equipment long before the USCG has to force them to do so says everything anyone with a shred of common sense needs to know about the lack of concern this company has for it's passengers. Rare LMaxwell Posted February 15, 2017 #174 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Book the newest ships if you only want to impress others that you booked the newest mega ship at a premium price. I've never booked a ship to impress others; I book for the features and amenities. 25 years is getting old in this industry. I like Majesty and would sail again, but have no delusions that she does not measure up to newer ships. And I echo sentiments that I'd be ticked off at this situation. Someone at RCI was not doing their job and ultimately the Captain is responsible for his or her ship and should know and correct any safety deficiencies. "What did the Captain know, and when did they know it?" Glad they got to salvage some of the vacation for people here. 25% refundable OBC and 25% off a future cruise (based on the price of a 4 day Majesty cruise - about the cheapest cruise you can book) doesn't quite cut it in my book, but on the other hand they aren't required to do anything. But this was not an event out of their control. I can't imagine everyone in the upper management roster that was employed at the start of this week will still be there at the start of next week; gross negligence on this one. They obviously value the bottom line more than safety. Where I'm from, being negligent (and yes, this is negligence) towards life saving apparatus shows a disregard towards the value of life.
