Wearing dress shorts in MDR on Adventure of the Seas

Recommended Posts

What is or who is the"hoity-toity" (your words)? Next you might as well have said, but I am Diamond.

I think poster is referring to the area reserved for Suite and Pinnacle passengers. But then you might be asking or too young definition of Hoity-Toity...

What do you mean about the lower classes and unsophisticated ?

There is an undertone that people whom wear shorts are of a lower class or unsophisticated. I remember earlier in the thread someone telling them to go back to Carnival (though currently there is little difference between RCL and CCL). Many others relegate such affronts to the buffet. Though this attitude also equates to jeans it seems (they deserve to be put in the corner {poor baby}), and Another equated them to people with no morals. Also people wearing shorts in the MDR are equal to a vacation at a motel 6.

I did not mean to imply I view people as such, more as a general feeling as portrayed in the thread so far.

It took awhile but y'all have convinced me! I have been dressing incorrectly! I have now changed my packing list! I will no longer have to worry about luggage being overweight! I can cut down my packing tremendously! I now will come in from the island and shower. No need for "evening attire" (casual or formal)! I will save some time later in the evening also. I now will shower and just put my pajamas on. No need for undies/bra. May or may not use robe....depends on temperature. I will be very comfy in the show, in the casino, and at dinner. Will save me time when I get back to the room too! Don't have to undress and don't have to hang those pesky "evening" clothes up. Now that I think of it....I can go straight to breakfast when I wake up! After that I can put my swimsuit on for the day! Won't even be breaking any rules!Wow! I am so glad y'all have "taught" me a new way to dress and pack! Love it! Thanks to all!

Why not just put on your spare dry swim suit and be ready for the next day?

No shirt required.

Agree. The move may mean delaying your dining experience.

Which may be okay if you have nothing else scheduled, like a show. :)

Agree and even given that it still would be better than trying to enjoy a nice meal with someone stinky. That would be a concern if we cruised on the mega ships. Since we don't no show reservations required for us. We always eat early traditional (table for two) so we have plenty of time to make the entertainment.

Just imagine. You could pack everything for your cruise in a back pack. No more airline baggage fees. Plus you don't need to ask your cabin attendant for extra hangers. ;)

You are correct. But as you mentioned it,

one the best definitions I saw of "it" was, "one who has their nose so far up in the air

you could pour tea down it.":p

(I'm just being silly) TY

Your # 3....Is a quick glance as they pass quickly by you going to ruin your dinner

I tend to look at my table mate not at everyone entering the dining room...JMHO but sad you're spending your dinner time assessing those that may have "ignored the suggested" nightly dress or whether they should be relegated to eating elsewhere in your opinion.

Hopefully you'll ask to not be seated near the dining room entrance on your future RCI cruise's or choose a cruiseline more in step with your needs and comforts ... after all it's a vacation....relax and enjoy :D

Men in shorts is bad but women is dresses cut above the knees is not? Be consistent please! [emoji14] Ultimately, the legs are underneath the table so should not even be visible to you unless you are actively looking for them.

As a general rule, millennials, do not LOOK for a reason to be upset.

That's just crazy talk

LMaxwell......We can always count on you to embed some sanity in ridiculous conversations. You should apply to be a moderator but you'd be banning people left and right.

I appreciate the vote of confidence but I'm sure not going to ever win a popularity contest around here. I ask the five why's a lot to get to the base problems, works terrific in the professional world, but around here it seems to really irk people when you ask for further explanation or point out a flaw in reasoning. And I don't do it to put anyone down, I do it because asking the five why's usually gets you down to a pretty solid base of understanding and then you can have a well informed and intentioned debate. But a lot of people think I'm some immoral slob yokel inbred because I want to wear shorts in the Caribbean.

The (somewhat) ironic part is, in the speciality restaurants you can wear shorts with no issue. I typically wear shorts + a Tommy Bahama almost every night.

My father, when he cruises, actually wears shorts + a guy harvey shirt. Neither of us has ever had someone say a word on any of the cruises (from the Jewel up to the allure). The only odd ship was the Serenade, no flack from speciality however the MDR was very odd including having to sit at a large table for breakfast.

Tailored shorts can be very smart unlike some of the sports shorts.

I just did one of those DNA testing things and found out I am 10% Scotish. I think a nice tailored kilt could be very smart too! ;) But under the 'rules' can I wear shorts underneath in the MDR?

Seriously, I see someone wearing a kilt almost every cruise.

You would be welcomed.:)

That's good to hear Bob. We have muster drill at 5:30pm and dinner at 6pm. Didn't want to get dressed for dinner and have to attend the muster drill in dress clothes.

Depending on what time we board we might not even have our luggage yet.

Bill
