RonniLJ Posted July 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2017 Anyone use a private excursion/tour company in Bar Harbor or Halifax? Sailing to New England/Canada week of Sept 23. Thanks, RonniLJ
joeyancho Posted July 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2017 Try the ports board. Also Google is your friend.
JF - retired RRT Posted July 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2017 You could try the Ports of Call board, there might be some discussions there.
RNCheryl Posted July 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2017 I just booked today!! We are on Serenade of the Seas 10/8. I booked Oli's Trolley 4 hour Acacia National Park tour. In Halifax, we are doing Taste of Hallifax "Eat Hallifax" tour. Got both ideas from Trip Advisor
elfinmagic Posted July 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2017 Olis trolley is a nice tour but it can get cold at the top of the mountain - Bar Harbor is a nice little town to just wander and maybe have a lobster roll.
jagsfan Posted July 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2017 It would be a shame to visit Bar Harbor and not see Acadia National Park. The one way Loop Road alone is spectacular, not to mention the view from the top of Cadillac Mountain. Bar Harbor itself is quite commercial, lots of shopping and places to eat. I say do Oli's Trolley to see the best part of that port. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
easyboy Posted July 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2017 Check http://www.tomsportguides.com/port-guides.html. Choose Bar Harbor and Halifax on the list of ports. Download the pdf file. Lots of info.
Alaska05 Posted July 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2017 Last year we booked our tour with Oli's once we arrived in town. If it would have been a bad day I don't know if we would have done it. That's why we waited. Luckily we ended up with fantastic weather.

Thanks, RonniLJ If you're sailing on the Crown Princess drop into the Roll Call. It's small but friendly.
capriccio Posted July 31, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Acadia National Park, as recommended by others, is a must do (along with lobster rolls :D - we enjoyed the Side Street Cafe) in Bar Harbor. In Halifax we (group of 4) rented a car and drove out to Peggy's Cove (lovely scenery) and stopped at the cemetery with the graves of the Titanic victims on the way back into town. After returning the car we had a nice lunch downtown and still had time to visit the maritime museum. We were in Halifax on a Sunday and the driving was very easy. We did the same with a rental car in Halifax. Great day and moved at our pace. Also cheaper than tour
skynight Posted July 31, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Acadia National Park loop road is an excellent trip. We have done it many times while camping in the park. Take a look at this site. There is a bus service offered by the NPS. https://www.acadianationalpark.com/transportation/public_transportation.php

Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted July 31, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Acadia National Park loop road is an excellent trip. We have done it many times while camping in the park. Take a look at this site. There is a bus service offered by the NPS.https://www.acadianationalpark.com/transportation/public_transportation.php The bus service is free but does not include any narration and it does not go to the top of Cadillac Mountain. For first-time visitors to Acadia, I recommend a guided tour like Ollie's.

TRUEBLUE66 Posted July 31, 2017 #16 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Hi, Went to both places last year and used http://barharborcoastalcab.com/index.html with Woody and had a great time. He dropped us off so we could walk some of the coastal path and picked us up when we had enough and showed us the sights including the top of Cadillac Mt. For next stop we used http://www.halifaxtaxitours.com/ for a trip to Peggy's Cove and the surrounding area but you can plan your own tour with them.
