Balcony smoking

Recommended Posts

Has anyone still dealt with people still smoking on balconys recently ? Or has anyone still done it themselves and has anyone complaining.

Yep. Happened on Vision. Young lady on balcony next to me. I tried talking to her first. No luck. I talked to GS and they gave her a warning. Still no luck. I talked to GS a second time. GS called my room later that day and told me she was fined $250. They also told me that the neighbor on the other side complained. Furthermore, they said if it persisted to let them know and she would be off at the next port.

This may not be RCI's consistent response, but I was very impressed by the Vision GS staff. :)

I think it should be fine first offense and then off the boat at next port. First fine should be $1000.

Being a former smoker I feel

I must chime in.. people are hooked on cigarettes. Some people haven't sailed since the 'law' changed back in 2012 and don't realize it. Some people just say I'll do what I want, others respect the rules. We never smoked after the rules changed on the balcony. Just don't give smokers a bad time when they're in their designated smoking areas. Now that were nonsmoking we are back to balconies. Did an inside (marriage test anyone) and it was ok, but we did miss the fresh air.

If someone is hooked bad on smoking plan your cabin locations near designated smoking areas. I would suggest cabins near the swim deck like the new ones added on deck 12 on voyager and freedom

Class. Also don't forget the connoisseur club on deck 5 forward smoking is allowed on freedom class. Get a cabin on deck 3 and just a short trip up the stairs to the lifeboat deck - smoke away!

All this being said. Little miss thing that wouldn't quit smoking- I would have reported her as well.

I sailed on Granduer a few months after the balcony ban went into effect. There was a prominent notice in the cabin stating that no smoking was permitted in the cabin or balcony. If that exists fleet-wide, there is no excuse for not being aware of the ban.

Oh they know about it all right. They just don't care. In their mind since the first time doesn't incur a penalty, they're testing the waters to see if they can get away with it.

That’s why I say first offense $1000 and next time off the boat.

There are plenty of other places to smoke onboard the ship, unfortunately the Casino is one of them.

We rarely have any issues with balcony smokers - EXCEPT for the most recent cruise. We tried to complain but never could get through to guest service. The one time I did get through - by the time I connected with GS - the smoker was gone. (This was an extended Hurricane Irma cruise with many lines at GS so I was not willing to wait in the long lines either). Folks on the other side of us saw us in the hall and asked us if we were the smokers. We told the cabin attendant as I believe that they are on the lookout for smokers.

We smelled the smoke fairly often from the time we were in port even before the ship left and several times at sea. The times at sea were worse as the smoke seemed to enter the cabin as soon as we opened the balcony door. I know it was not coming from any open smoking areas as we were on a B2B in the same cabin and only had an issue the second week.

I don't think being is a GS would have been any different as suggested by a previous poster as we were just 2 cabins away from several suites.

Don't get me started on the casino as a designated smoking area. While I don't like it - it is permitted - while balcony smoking is not.

I have only called GS. Is Security the better option to call? Is that number 411?

I don't know the number, it was either listed on the phone or just one button to press. However, that's who GS told us to call.

I was saying, no excuse for smoking on balcony when they let them stink up the Casino and many are not playing. I’d personally like it banned entirely from the ship.

If you smoke on the balcony just do it covertly. Stand in the corner up against the door so nobody can see you. If someone complains just deny it, and start complaining about the sickening stench. Oh and get rid of the evidence too. I suggest putting the cigarette butts in a can half filled with water and throwing it out in a public garbage receptacle.

Enjoy your cruise!

The problem with your grand plan is that everyone can instantly smell the stench of you without even having to be right next to you.

Okay so I'm a smoker. The first balcony I booked was when you could smoke on your balcony and then before we sailed they changed the rules, LOL!!! I didn't smoke on my balcony. End of story. People don't like the smell of smoke and I get that so I don't understand why people can't follow the rules and more importantly be considerate of the people that don't want to smell that.

We've noticed less and less smokers on our last few cruises. I think it's because they're dying off and less younger people are smoking. Our last few trips I haven't smelled any smoke when on our balcony and even the casino isn't as smoky as it used to be. Our last cruise on GR, this past April was during spring break so more families onboard. Hate to say it because someone will get offended, but younger, more educated people are less likely to smoke and I think that was a big part of it. DH and I were never really smokers (maybe have one when we were disco-ing back in the day) and none of our friends do so I'm always surprised when I see people who do. I work with over 50 people in my team at work and not a single person smokes. Anyway, my point is, it's definitely on the decline, but when it does happen, it's very irritating.

I don't think you can smoke in the Casino on Celebrity, I could be wrong.

Here is a link to a thread about our experience with smokers on our cruise last December: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2430394

Trust ,I complained numerous times and I sent an email to RCI corporate in Miami. Bottom line is we got a $500 OBC for our next cruise and they promised they were reviewing how smokers were handled with the crew on the Independence.

Luckily we had no problems on our last 2 cruises.
