Update On Australian Cocaine Smuggling Case

I searched to see if this had been posted and didn't find anything. Looks like two of the smugglers will be in Australia for a looooong time.

The Aussies generally take a real dim view of smugglers so yes I imagine they are going to be guests for a long time. BTW I was able to read the article.

I certainly hope that the Aussies give them at least a decade vacation. Looking at the Aussie Criminal Code they can get up to Life....because the quantity exceeds the "Large Commercial" which is 1 Kilo.

I was told by a police officer that the group had a fourth member who (according to him) "got spooked and disembarked at an earlier port".

 

It is obvious that the authorities knew the drugs were on board because Federal Police with dogs boarded the ship as soon as it docked in Sydney and went straight to the offenders' cabins. Most other passengers were not aware that this was happening. I feel a bit sorry for Captain Arma who was on his first assignment as Captain. I do not imply that he was responsible, but it was a situation he could have done without.

The drugs were in the cabin occupied by the two attractive young women. One claimed that she knew nothing about the drugs!!! The third person was an older man who was occupying a cabin on his own at the time of their arrest.

Makes me wonder what they're looking at when your luggage gets scanned.....that's a serious amount of drugs to hide! And they worry about you bringing alcohol on board? Sigh...
