neptune18 Posted March 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2018 Here's a new one. Sailing Harmony in June. My sister booked and made final payment on an O.V. balcony. She just got an email from t.a. saying she was being moved to a C.P. balcony because her cabin will be "undergoing necessary modifications". Sounds fishy to me. Any thoughts? Um, OV are usually more $$ than CP. I'd be pushing back on this one. Or they better be giving her some major $ or perks back.
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted March 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2018 I would not be happy with that, CP is less costly than Oceanview, and not seeing the ocean for me is like why have a balcony!

I know sometimes a cabin requires maintenance that might take some time so it needs to be vacant but they certainly owe more than a switch to a lower category. molly361 Posted March 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2018 That would not make me happy either. I hope they are getting compensated for the downgrade.
Clarea Posted March 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2018 I would think that they would offer either significant compensation or a full refund.
neptune18 Posted March 22, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted March 22, 2018 Agreed, but how can the cabin be scheduled for modifications that far in advance? Maybe making it H.A.? If so, I'd hate to be in the cabin next to it.

cabarr Posted March 23, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Just off Oasis and Harmony We noticed a group of Central Park balcony cabins blocked off with white enclosures on both ships. Thought it was odd since they were on both ships and in the same area. I think they were on a high deck possibly deck 14. (Under pool area) Maybe making them into larger cabins to accommodate families? Did RCI give a reason for this?
ajp_99 Posted March 23, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Wow I hope they are getting compensated for that. No way should they just accept a downgrade with no discounts. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Ocean Boy Posted March 23, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 23, 2018 I would not be happy about this move at all. Even compensation would not make it better. I want to see the ocean when I am on the balcony. Try doing a mock booking. If there are any higher category cabins available I would be calling and arguing for a free upgrade. Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted March 23, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Perhaps you can go on meet and greet for a future sailing and see if anybody can help by asking when they get on board what is going on in that area? I also would not want the change of cabin and I agree, do a mock booking and if something is available speak to RC and ask for a manager and explain the situation. molly361 Posted March 23, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2018 I assume this is your June 2nd Harmony sailing?? There are still OV balcony cabins available. Have her ask for one of those. Something doesn't sound right why would they offer a CP balcony instead

Biker19 Posted March 23, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Have her ask for one of those. + some OBC.
JonRegister Posted March 23, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 23, 2018 I would push for at least a JS. We had a big price drop for a OVB last June. We had our TA call and they said they would have upgraded us to a JS but they were out. So she kept pushing and we ended up with a GS. Keep pushing Sent from my iPhone using Forums
molly361 Posted March 23, 2018 #17 Share Posted March 23, 2018 + some OBC. Oh yeah forgot that part Looks like the OP has left us
Biker19 Posted March 23, 2018 #18 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Oh yeah forgot that part RCI has its "convenience fee" - this is the customer version of it. Every time RCI "inconveniences" you, some OBC is due. How much depends on your negotiating ability.
neptune18 Posted March 23, 2018 Author #19 Share Posted March 23, 2018 So they moved her to another OV balcony. I still don't understand what extensive work they could be doing to a cabin on a new ship. It's obviously not an emergency as it's planned well in advance. Biker19 Posted March 23, 2018 #20 Share Posted March 23, 2018 So they moved her to another OV balcony. I think the main issue is that they are moving them to a CP balcony, not OV balcony.

I think we saw the same thing on Allure a few weeks ago. There were few balconies that looked like they were closed off by a white partition. They were the first few on that deck. We saw them looking down from 14 but I can't remember if we were port or starboard.
