Want to do an Asia cruise. Constellation or Millenium a better ship?

We have done one cruise on Millie and two on Connie. It is hard to find any differences between the two ships. Only thing that might matter is the Officers and Staff. The Cruise Director can make a little difference.

 

Go with you best itinerary and price, not a ship.

Just curious as to why someone would consider traveling all that way if the ship, not the ports, were the priority.

Ports definitely the preference I was just asking by those are the two shops offered....hubs won’t cruise unless there’s a casino and I heard neither had one but they both do. And yes the itineraries are similar with most.

After the Asian season, Millennium repositions to BC and Alaska, Connie repositions through the Suez to Europe after sailing to Indian ports. We were on the latter B2B but had to cancel for medical reasons and we are very sad about it.

There is a casino on both. Haven’t been on the Millie but just returned from 29 nights on the Connie. We did a B2B out of Singapore.

 

The ship is in very good shape and the crew was fantastic.

You might want to look at the distances many of the ports are from the tourist sites.

 

We've pretty much eliminated cruising in Asia for that reason. If we go back, it will be independent or maybe a group tour.

Just did Millenium RT hong kong. Went to Vietnam and Taiwan. There was also an overnight in Hong Kong. We also stayed before and after in Hong Kong. I enjoyed the ports. Favorite was Hong Kong. Did all excursions using Celebrity. Most were good. Full day trips included lunch at very good places. Be aware that you should decide what you want to see. I was unaware when we booked that Hanoi was a 4 hour drive from HaLong where the ship anchored. People who went to Hanoi complained about the long ride on bad roads. As much as I would have liked to see Hanoi, I knew that 4 hour bus trip each way wasn't for me. Went to interesting places closer to the ship. Also, ship docks in Hong Kong at Kai Tak terminal. The terminal is huge. most walking ever to get to the ship. The cruise was very interesting. I liked the cruise experience which had several sea days. After long full day excursions, a sea day is a welcome day of rest. I would also look at land trips.

Agree, we have done a lot of land trips in Asia. On our cruises we barely got off the ship as not interested in 2 hour transfers to see places we have already visited.

In 2016 did connie and Minnie and preferred connie but mostly because crew was miles better (might have changed)

I sailed both ships shortly after they were launched, and they were virtually identical. I know both ships have been refurbished/updated, and I believe they are still very similar. We like the S class ships more than the M class ships.

We did Southeast Asia on Constellation, Japan on Millennium and we are on Millennium in South Korea and China right now.

 

Can’t go wrong with either one of them!

 

However, all the M-class ships are no Solstice class. Asian cruises ate not about the ship but the destinations... and both ships do a fine job in that.

There are some very small differences between them that, if everything else was exactly the same, then I'd choose Constellation.

 

But I don't believe everything else is exactly the same, so look at itinerary, dates, cost ahead of that. They're likely to have a bigger impact on your experience than the choice of ship between those two.

Excellent advice - thank you. I may not have thought of that for Asia or other exotic destinations, as I'm used to Caribbean cruising, where activities are usually nearby....

Our casino money lasted us longer on the Constellation compared to the Millennium. Loved both ships.

Connie has been recently refurbished, Millie looked very tired in January this year

 

We found on South East Asia itinerary destinations/tourist attractions are a long way away from the ports

They are pretty similar and both have had drydock overhauls in the past 18 months. I would not hesitate to book either but we did find the crew/staff on the Millennium to be more outgoing and friendly than on the Constellation. I will look long and hard at the itineraries. Go to the places that appeal to you more.

We have been on 2 Asian cruises on the Millenium. We loved the ship. Think it's in dry dock for a major refurbishment in Jan 2019. We recently cancelled a China and Japan cruise due to the distance the ports were from the places of interest. We love Asia and always have a land based holiday there every year and these win hands down over a cruise to that part of the world. Got 3 weeks in Thailand arranged for June this year and 3 weeks in KL, Bali and Borneo for September. Easy to do yourself and you see so much more .

The two ships are the same class and almost the same age as others have said the ports and the time the ships are in ports is more important in my opinion. If you could post the cruises you are looking at with ports I believe you will get better answers. The port is not always the same as the area you want to see. The port for example the port for Taipei Taiwan is Keelung. So to go to Taipei 101 by car is 30 minutes no traffic and 1 hour with traffic, or over 1 hour 15 minutes by bus or train. The same type of deal with KL, city is not really near port. (Kuala Lumpur)

Kinda wish they would use the solstice class ships. I will look at the ports, we cruise by we get 50%Off on 8 nights with a vitality discount. Plus we are both young and getting vacation for 3weeks at a time can be hard with work. We like cruising by we can see stuff and then when we are retired go back for longer.... Thanks for the information, will def look at itineraries. I want to see HK, Thailand, and Vietnam the most. Singapore is also intriguing.

We were on the Millennium in Alaska 2014, before all the updates, and loved it. Seemed like a decent size casino, and honestly I think Celebrity does it right with the slot tournaments, sucking you right in. We won an excursion in Juneau.

 

We're doing the transpacific back to Japan in 2019. We can either stay 4 extra nights, or 7. Any recommendations on places to travel to for a night or two? Otherwise we're planning on staying at the Sheraton Bay Hotel, and picking tours from the Tokyo area.
