FSHLOT Posted May 8, 2018 #226 Share Posted May 8, 2018 Why not just stay home and become John Travolta from "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble." Also, if you wash your hands before sitting down at the buffet after handling tongs, as I made bold above, where do you put your tray of food while you're in the bathroom washing your hands? EDIT.....since you never touch an uncovered table surface, then I assume you only eat in the MDR on the two evenings that tablecloths come out.....and if you don't touch chairs, how do you get them to move so that you can sit down? Or do you just crouch down to eat and then stretch your legs in between courses at the uncovered table for your meals? LOL, what a great response!! Love it Germaphobes should be no where near a cruise ship...lol

I always silently snicker to myself when the person ahead of me grabs a cart at the store and automatically wipes it down with a disinfectant cloth. Then the moment they touch the first item in the store they get germs on their hands. Every item in the store has been touched by several people, lastly touched by the stocker who has germs on their hands. I do not obsess over germs, I don’t even wipe the remote for the TV on a cruise or in a hotel, and rarely get sick. I wash my hands often and don’t touch my face. I don’t use hand railings generally, and do use my knuckle to push the elevator buttons. That is about as germaphobic that I get.

Your hands are on the cart the entire time you shop. So were the last person's who picked their nose, coughed in their hand, scratched their butt, etc. So it has a higher accumulation of bad stuff than the box of cheerios that a stocker touched for 3 seconds as he puts it on the shelf. I still don't wipe my cart down as I just don't care about germs whatsoever. I rarely get sick and actually have a bad habit of touching my face or chewing my nails(I know I should stop but easier said than done), not sure how those two coincide but guess my body fights off sickness better than some. My wife will wipe down any cart we use though if I go shopping with her.

The main thing is to avoid touching your nose or mouth as this is where any infection can enter your body. Cruise a holic Posted May 8, 2018 #231 Share Posted May 8, 2018 While I also use caution, unless you have a compromised immune system or undergoing chemotherapy, our bodies have the ability to fight off many germs. To worry about everything is OCD to me.
sgttami Posted May 8, 2018 #232 Share Posted May 8, 2018 Well I've never seen a pool towel used as a tablecloth....LOL That would be a first!:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Laurie S. Posted May 8, 2018 #233 Share Posted May 8, 2018 I don't use antiseptic wipes on anything. I don't use hand sanitizer. I do wash my hands thoroughly and regularly and use my knuckle to hit the buttons in the elevator and my elbow on the railings. I never have become ill on a cruise ship and I've been on almost 20 cruises in more than 30 years. Maybe it's because I'm a diver and I dive all the time with fish poop around me building up an immunity. ;)

pacruise804 Posted May 10, 2018 #236 Share Posted May 10, 2018 I am an operating room nurse and have worked in health care for 44 years, in Canada. I have never seen or heard of dryers being used in place of paper towels in hospitals. For many reasons this would not be a desirable option in health care settings. Cost being the least of the problems. I misspoke/was unclear in my post. My reference is as a patient/visitor and in the public restrooms, not as a care provider and certainly not OR. I was responding to a previous post about the germs associated with dryers, but the public restrooms have the high speed dryers.

I believe those dryers aren't really healthy as they blow all types of germs around. Paper towels best option, but aren't the cheapest.
Sgàile Posted May 15, 2018 #238 Share Posted May 15, 2018 In using those terms, I hope you're not implying these types of behaviors are only seen in people from the south. The northern U.S. has them too. -From a Yankee transplant Well said, yes, thank you.
FlaMommy75 Posted May 15, 2018 #239 Share Posted May 15, 2018 I saw a large, shirtless man eat a messy BBQ sandwhich while laying on a lounge chair in the Serenity Deck. At one point he let out a loud, wet sounding fart and continuing eating without even acknowledging it or seeming to care. Speaking of which, the people that pass gas on the elevator right before they get off need to be thrown overboard...j/k :)

SkyPiglet Posted May 15, 2018 #241 Share Posted May 15, 2018 I didn't witness it per se, but my wife did.... On our second cruise, a drunk lady ran into the bathroom off the casino floor (not unusual), used the restroom (not unusual), yelled "Oh God, thank you!" (Ok, a bit odd but alcohol makes you do weird stuff), and then runs out without washing her hands (Ew). I hope I didnt touch any of her slot machines! Also, on a different cruise, a couple of late teens boys ate in the MDR on elegant night, wearing jeans and tanks tops. Oh the nerve! (J/K), I didn't actually care what they were wearing

But I prefer he fart as we are exiting rather than have it as an additional passenger while we are riding. :')
