Neither, and I Am not on one of their payrolls. Know any who are hiring? In a heartbeat! LOL Thank you for the compliment though.

I read, digest and respond based on what I perceive as being applicable to the experience and expectation.

If I believe the expectations are out of line for the experience, I will speak up and say so, if the experience is out of line for the minimum expectations, I will speak up and say so, regardless of what anyone else may believe at the time.

Yes, there a few posts where I have come back to CC (and other forums), after a lashing, and apologized for what I thought and wrote at the time.

I trust that I Am defending reasonableness, rather than any cruise line in particular. It just so happens that my current line of choice has been X, thus my presence on this board often.

No malice aforethought or afterthought concerning any post or poster.... hopefully reasoned and somewhat thought out or about?

My spouse (and others) might differ with my reasoning at any given time... I tell them to go have another drink and then come back to discuss further... :p Sometimes I convince, sometimes it is not convincing at all... but I go for it regardless. As many posters that appear around here is just about as many ideas and thoughts that will abound regardless.

I may not like some of them, yet I do respect the right to post and the right to respond accordingly.

Thank you and bon voyage

I enjoy reading responses from experienced cruisers. I remember back when I was a newbie and would get nervous about a cruise decision I made after reading a post that said XYZ is a terrible ship. Had it not been for replies like yours, I would have been worrying about things unnecessarily. There is nothing wrong posting events that didn't go right....but surely doesn't rise to the level to condemn the entire cruise line.

I remember a comment that someone made to me right when I began to cruise. He said "The worst day on a cruise ship is still better than a good day when your not cruising". I agree and plan on spending my time figuring out where I'm cruising next now that I am fully retired!!

Avoid celebrity. Not what it once was.

Besides many issues like entertainment one worse than the other.

Tender in Shetland islands 2 hours to get off ship. Get very little time in port because not enough tenders.

Using 2 80 passenger tenders to get almost 3000 off the ship.

Stupid dump awful.

Have tenderd many ports pri

Princess, Cunard and others never such a stupid ridiculous experience.

Any line is better than Celebrity!!!!!

.

It could be a poor chain of command of this ship. We felt it in the past on board the VOLENDAM on a cruise to the far east.

c - please do not encourage these types of posters to come back. Let it be one post here and done, for the most part.

I do prefer posters who have beefs with X and/or its' services to do a complete review of the sailing and not hit on one or two factors unless there was bodily harm or something similar that took place.

bon voyage

You are absolutely correct!! I really dislike when individuals come on here and offer zero feedback on why a cruise was good or bad.

There are a few "Negative Nancies" that keep popping up on these threads, fixated on one issue. I'd like to see how the OP would do on Princess or Cunard in this same port, with the same tendering situation. If they're a cheerleader, the blame will probably fall back on Celebrity for setting the bad example. ;)

We've been on 2 Celebrity Cruises in the past 2 years, and we loved every single second of it.

The staff was always phenomenal, we loved the on board entertainment when we went and the locations were amazing.

Sorry if your experience wasn't what you were wanting, but Celebrity still seems like a top notch cruise line to us and we are already planning another cruise soon!

I don't have any issue if people have complaints. Not every cruise line operates "great" all the time. But to come on here and say Celebrity is horrible because of one tender incident.... And I know they posted in frustration but I hope they didn't let it ruin their entire cruise although it probably did.

You need to elaborate more on the issues! We've switched to Oceania, as Celebrity food quality has declined drastically the last few years. What we considered as "premium" line food in the past is not any more. It's not terrible, but the quality certainly is not what it was 2 years ago! Entertainment quality has declined as well. Again NOT terrible, but diminished. Eclipse used to be our ship of choice. Not so anymore. Though the food on Oceania is leaps & bounds better, the price matches it. We'll do another 14 days next Jan. & then look back at Celebrity. The DO have a good overall itinerary. Staff on Eclipse was always excellent. Being foodies & owning a food service bus. We know the ins & outs & how to cut corners on food. A good chef can do wonders with a limited budget. A bad chef can ruin everything. The chef on our 2017 cruise was so bad, that the Maître D took him around the room to hear the complaints & apologize for the lack of quality. Hopefully he is NO longer with the line.

We'll wait & see about the new Edge class. I never go out on the first voyages. We prefer they get the bugs worked out.

I don't want to get into another food quality/preparation/presentation debate for we all have our own knowledge, background, taste. The picture you painted with this comment about the chef being paraded through the dining room by the maitre d to listen to negative feedback must have some basis, but since admittedly you are willing to consider sailing with Celebrity again, there must be something that draws you back to at least consider it. Yet that picture would lead cruisers inexperienced with Celebrity to avoid it at all costs. As far as entertainment quality on Celebrity I don't think the entertainment has changed all that much from days gone by. Yes they have decreased the size of the theater musician group, but the visiting entertainers are as good (or bad) as ever....It depends what you enjoy. Our last cruise on Reflection was the best entertainment we've seen on any of our cruises. I have never seen a production show I've liked, but do enjoy the guest entertainers most nights. Reviews are by nature subjective, but any reviewer who paints with a broad brush instantly (at least for me) arouses skepticism.

We currently have two cruises booked.....one with RCI in the fall and one with Celebrity next January. I have been back on both boards reading posts in general to keep up with current information and to read posts pertaining to the two ships we're sailing.

Some of the information I've gleaned from various threads are that both ships have a lot of problems. The food has gone down hill, the entertainment is bad, the ship maintenance is being neglected, the staff is complacent, and because so many people have drink packages, there is a long wait for drinks unless you throw a lot of money around in tips, etc, etc, etc. On the other hand, there are people who just love both of these ships and many, many positive reviews and comments on recent sailings. Who should I believe?

We've cruised enough to know that every cruise on every ship is a unique experience. There are so many factors that can influence your enjoyment level. We've had our share of disappointments, but there have always been good experiences that more than offset the bad. I expect these next two cruises will be good ones, too.

You should read some comments from those of us who have been on the Eclipse lately. We were on her TA in April, food was great and entertainment much improved from our 2015 Eclipse sailing. Yes, the chef is different from your sailing. This was one of the best, if not THE best cruise we’ve had.

Celebrity has gone so far down hill that last night we dined on fresh mussels sourced in the port of Cannes. Also a French-themed dinner in the buffet last night which was excellent.

Re tenders, we are using huge tenders from shore. No waiting, no tickets needed. Process is very smooth. We’re here for the second day.

I have the best cabin attendant I’ve ever had and the whole ship is full of smiles. The hotel director greets everyone as they board and was also at the tender dock welcoming everyone to Cannes.

Definitely a picture of a terrible cruise experience. Not!

Well you can believe the few people on here the continually complain or the other 2500+ who were on those same cruises and had no problems or none worth whining about anyway. You can ignore any complaint that is subjective. Food I hate, you might love. Entertainment I love you might hate etc. Now if there are a hundred online posts saying the ship smelled like 4 day old road kill then you might want to bring some fabreeze with you.

I've never been on a cruise ship where maintenance is neglected. They cost way too much money for a cruise line to not maintain them. Some are older than others and will show some wear and tear. If you need that new car smell book a new ship. On an older one expect to see some wear. The staff on Celebrity is usually very good, better than any other line I've sailed. The wait to get a drink can be a few minutes if the bar is busy. I'm not sure how that's any different from any other ship or land based bar. The Martini bar in particular can hard to get served at because it's freakin packed most evenings. Here's a tip, if you don't want one of those fancy martinis, walk a few steps to the Casino Bar it's rarely busy;)

So yes, you will probably get a meal or two you might not like. You will probably also get a drink that is too weak or too strong. It might rain. There might be a line somewhere you must wait in. The seas might be rough. The music might be too loud or not loud enough. Someone will grab that last piece of cake before you;p. Cruise vacation, land vacation or staycation, none will be perfect. But for some people if any of this happens they feel the need to plaster it all over the internet because in the perfect world they live in nothing should ever go wrong.

These boards are really great for getting questions answered and getting advice about an upcoming cruise. But if you are trying to get a feel for quality of food, entertainment etc they are terrible. It's better to look at the overall ship ratings where they average the feedback of thousands of people to get a feel for what to expect quality wise. For instance in the 2018 cruiser's awards under large ship dining, Celebrity ships won 5 of the top ten awards and the top 3 were all Celebrity. So really, how bad can the food be?

Shhhh.... Linda it is a secret. If you let posters know the true story too many people will buy Celebrity cruises and ruin it for the rest of us! So --wink--wink-- yes it is just a terrible experience cruising on Celebrity!

Just got off Eclipse this morning. Tendering is never a good experience (for me anyway) but Lerwick wasn't all that bad.

We had good weather and I counted five tenders in the water. We collected our tickets mid-morning and probably waited half an hour or so to board.

It was the best tender I've been on with padded, forward-facing seats. On the side of the tender I seem to recall it said 120 persons as a tender and 150 as a lifeboat.

They let people ride up top if they wanted and the trip to shore was around five minutes.

The ship itself was beautiful and clean, food was wonderful and all in all a great cruise experience.

We were very lucky with the weather, especially compared to the cruise preceding ours.

If you've booked a cruise on Eclipse I would advise you continue to look forward to it. Just my opinion of course.

Absolutely. No one should have to tolerate a great cruise. I think this should be reported, IMMEDIATELY, to authorities. In fact, send this to BO1953 and he will see that it's taken care of, forthwith!

We were on the recent Celebrity Eclipse Transatlantic and the Ireland and Iceland cruise. Everything was great—delicious food, terrific entertainment, super ports of call. Our tendering in Lerwick was fine. We picked up a tender number when they became available in the morning. Our number was called very quickly. We were tendered and on the dock in Lerwick by 10:30 am. We were able to take a three hour tour by bus starting at noon(which we picked up on the dock) and saw great scenery of the island, super picture ops, Shetland ponies, which we were able to pet and learn about from the owner, and a great stop at village with a wonderful museum about fisherman from Lerwick and their contributions during WWII. There was also a castle to explore and some photo ops from the cliffs looking down on the water. Just beautiful. We returned to Lerwick after the 3 hour bus tour and had enough time to walk the town and out to the broch (old stone ruins) and back before tendering back to the ship in time. We have nothing but praise for how Celebrity handled our tendering. :)

Well if the OP’s intent was to have fellow cruisers raising their voice in support of Celebrity, using an opposite point of view to trigger the the support movement!

I would say congratulations! Mission Accomplished! Cruisers still love the big X!!!
