Fight on the Escape

Wow that 's scary. I would have thought that security would have been more involved a lot faster to stop things. I'm sailing on Escape in a few weeks.

My Dad was a police officer for 30+ years in NY. He learned the hard lesson at the age of 21 about trying to break up a bar fight when he rushed in as soon as the call came. He told me that, after that hard lesson, he learned that, when he got the radio call on a bar fight, he would drive at a normal speed to the bar, then go in and arrest the winner and send the loser to the hospital. The two worst situations for law enforcement/security personnel to step into are fights between drunks and family "disturbances". Always a no-win situation for the officer(s).

Yep. It's almost always worse for "the authorities" to rush in and exert a show of force. If a few guys have been drinking and start swinging at each other just protect the bystanders and wait for a good time to prevent the morons from seriously injuring each other. You can trace a lot of civil unrest directly to over-reaction by security forces.

Security was there from almost the beginning, even while the drunk moron we can hear is yelling "break up the g-d fight. Where is security?" Her "contribution", along with the crowd chanting "a-hole" were actually more frightening to me. That was a mob of morons and not a few guys swinging punches.

I hope they got the guys swinging punches and kicked them off the ship.

That's what I was thinking. She's just as bad as anyone else in that video. Complete trash.

I figured someone would say that. I've sailed with Carnival 2 times in since 2010 and have yet to see anything close to a fight.

13 cruises - 9 with carnival - Not one fight. 1 NCL Breakaway - 3 fights. Upcoming on Escape - hopefully none, but we will see. Don't listen to Carnival haters - they all have nonsense on them, doesn't matter what line.

I was skeptical booking NCL out of NYC again as the first cruise (Breakaway) was one of the best ones, but at least 3 fights witnessed and altercations (one guy got a beer bottle smashed over his head). It certainly didnt ruin my trip and I am smart enough to leave the area immediately - but I was hoping because Bermuda cruise was pretty expensive my odds were good...lol Fingers crossed!!

Security has probably been told not to engage in certain situations. A slippery surface coupled with water and jutting edges could be deadly. Get a couple idiots fighting and add security to the fray could lead to worse outcomes.

Instead of some moron yelling “break up the GD fight” how about everyone clearing the area? Instead of yelling “a**hole” in unison how about, idk, leaving the area?

I saw a kid and mom walking along with ice cream. Hey mom, take your child and leave the area.

If security was armed with sticks and beat the people senseless would that be good? I think not.

It has little to do with “clientele” and everything to do with the hot sun and possibly drinking. We really don’t know if and how much was drunk. We don’t know what started it. But we do know that every moron who stuck around to watch, egg on, whip out a cell phone to record, and did not leave the area contributed to the situation.

Exactly! What was she trying to accomplish? Everyone standing around gawking was not helping. And the a-hole chant? Stupid, way to incite

I saw at least 20 that should have been thrown off the ship next port

The tag line said Royal Navy Dockyard in Bermuda. Why were there so many people onboard if they were docked? That said, there have been a fight or two I witnessed on NCL ships but it was mostly just words and finger pointing. Alcohol, crowded conditions and the stress of vacation (yes there is stress on vacation sometimes) are possible explanations.

Apparently it happened on the first day. I read approximately 20 people were detained to their cabins until they docked in Bermuda.

I've been a LEO for 15 years, 2 of which, assigned to the jail. Never put yourself between 2 idiots fighting unless it's absolutely necessary (serious bodily injury/death). Let the dumbass hash it out and grab 'em when they tire out or fall over. Security on the Escape is always present, esp. later at night by the Casino and night club. I saw one fight break out, and they surrounded the guy and corralled him to an elevator area and closed the fire doors. This prevented others from fueling the fire, and goes strait back to the offenders room for quarantine, or to the brig. They have handcuffs and all looked to be in good shape (martial arts look). Attitude, Alcohol, Age groups all come into play. If you have a cousin that's always a rude ass****, leave him home. If you have that sweet Aunt that turns into a witch when she has a couple of Margaritas, leave her home. I'm from the attitude capital of the world (NY/NJ area) and we are so happy to be away from it all, I just smile my whole cruise.

I’m not signing in to you tube to watch a video? Is that a thing?

I Agree with a few others, just leave the area, let them be fools by themselves.

Yep, I refuse to sign and watch it as well. Judging from the comments, I guess it was a spectacle. Glad to know those involved were detained.

Agreed - unless someone is getting killed, you just don't 'jump in" and break that nonsense up. Trashy people are everywhere, unfortunately.

There are terrible people on every ship, and the beverage package doesn't help when they decide to show off their crazy side. I was on the Dawn earlier this year and a man cut in front of the entire bar line of about 10 people in Bliss to order. Everyone was just kind of looking at him, and I was the only one to say "The line starts back here." He came right up to me, put his face right in my face, and started just SCREAMING at me. I'm a woman and I had this big guy drunkenly screaming info my face. I remember his spit landed on my face. He was slurring his words and not making any sense, but just yelling into my face because I called him out on his "mistake." I told him he was drunk and he didn't need anything more to drink and he said, "Yeah, but guess what? They're going to keep serving me anyway." He actually said that. I ignored him, he the proceeded to stand directly next to me while I waited in line for my drink. When I got to the bar I told the bartenders what happened, still with him standing there swaying all over, and said "this man has been over served and you shouldn't give him anything else. He's going to start an actual fight." They just kinda shrugged their shoulders and said "do we need to call a manager?" I said yes, the manager told me that because he didn't see the incident there was nothing he could do, and they gave the guy two more beers. It was a horrible experience and NCL really disappointed me. Still makes me shudder to think about that guy in my face. What a trash human.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Frankly, I'm surprised stories like yours aren't more common.

Carnival Corporation brands, like HAL, have it right by having a 15-drink per day limit on their booze packages. If 15 cocktails/beers/glasses of wine a day isn't sufficient to get you through, you probably have other issues. NCL does have a bit of a challenge given that they are trying to be the all-suite magnet, the family magnet, and the drink-to-excess magnet all at the same time. One of those is not quite like the other.

As fights go that was pretty lame. Put 4000 people on a ship with lots of alcohol and I am surprised there are not a lot more of those. Security did a good job in that situation, in spite of what a lot of posters think. It would be foolish for them to get in the middle of those idiots.

Surprised that security wasn't putting these people in handcuffs..and with several officers there that it took so long...

I'd have left the pool area... Don't want to be around drunk brawlers... it could have escalated

Having a drink limit because of the possibility of someone becoming unruly punishes the masses for the behavior of a few.

It's not the drink package, or the sun, or the close quarters, or the limit on the package existing or being 15 drinks.

It is the people drinking, some people are mean and violent drunks. Period. I had a neighbor like this, awesome guy, wouldn't hurt a fly and would give you the shirt off his back. Right up until he drank a couple of beers, then out of nowhere and for no reason he would end up swinging on someone.

The problem was, he knew he was like this, but every weekend would end up in a fist fight with someone. The next day when you would ask him why, "Oh, its the booze, not me". Then why drink, "Why shouldn't I be able to have a beer like everyone else? It's not my fault when this happens." The real scary thing is, it wasn't massive amounts of alcohol, it was literally a couple of beers, not near enough to get anyone drunk to the point of a personality change. I ended up having no question the violent guy was the real personality, the easy going guy was the scam.

So much for security, wow, I am shocked to see that there really is NOT any security on board...

So much for security, you want more security? Here is what happens when more security shows up

Which sailing was this? Out of what port and to where?

July 8 out of NY to Bermuda

Was on this sailing, but didn't witness it myself just heard about it through other passengers.

In a nutshell from what I was told it was to do with a beach ball in the adult pool from what I was told, and was brewing for a while between the group and one person.
