(never disney, no thanks) "

OK, I'll bite, why? too expensive?

I apologize that this thread has turned into “Lottie Green’s guide to Cruising” :')

I’ve never priced Disney Cruises but have heard they are expensive, no clue if that’s actually true. Given how we cruise, it may be a cheaper alternative. But, my husband and I like to play craps and slot machines, Disney doesn’t have them so can’t see us going. We started cruising before our state had casinos and for us it’s a big part of the experience, for better or for worse (usually for worse lol).

We did Disney with the kids in the 90s twice, once each to both Florida and California. My hubby and I didn’t grow up with it and the boys thought it was “girly” so we didn’t really have too much fun. It’s been a common theme here, but both times we went due to having work confernces so that may have had something to do with it. We’re about to get a grandchild so maybe we will give it one more try with him or her some day, but the Disney experience wasn’t for our family when we tried it. I’m sure Blerk will flame me for saying that, but I just answered your question as honestly as I could.

Be prepared for sticker shock if you ever check into Disney.

We have cruised with them 4 times but none in probably the last 8-10 years.

7 day Caribbean cruises starting $2100pp for an inside cabin.

They were nowhere near those prices when we cruised with them or there would be no way we have ever gone on a Disney cruise.

Doesn't sound like Disney is your cup of tea. I think in your case that money could be better spent elsewhere but ya never know.:)

a) the more that is being paid for the meal the less margin for error there is, and

b) if an upscale restaurant makes a mistake or there is something fundamentally wrong with an order that is enough to steer clear of them in the future even if they are given the opportunity to fix the error and do so. I'm not going to fault someone for not giving them a second chance under those circumstances.

c) I wouldn't let one adverse review influence my decision too much.

I went to my first Wendy's in the mid-70's and it was the worst burger I'd ever had, even to this day. Greasy and full of gristle. I didn't walk into another Wendy's until the mid-80's and only then after my friend said he'd pay for my meal if I didn't like it. Fortunately there had been a big turn around in the interim and it was a decent meal, but I could have easily spent the rest of my life not eating at Wendy's.

Dave Thomas, now that was one interesting dude. The story about why the burgers are square is a good one. Not sure what it has to do with the Steakhouse tho.....

Since the sub-discussion that was going on was a customer's response to receiving food that didn't live up to expectations I thought I'd relate a personal experience.

Dave Thomas still cruises on Carnival. I believe he is sporting a blue beard these days.

I love how the disgusting trolls run this site. Dave Thomas did a ton to help facilitate adoption for kids in foster care. They don't make them like Dave anymore and you guys are making wisecracks about him.

Name calling is not allowed here. See post 131 the story I was referencing was actually a compliment about him.

I meant to quote Blerk who said he is still sailing on Carnival 16 years after his death.

Sorry about that Jimbo.

As for JH's lie he did a poster on fb that the Triumph would not be renamed and about a week later the renaming was announced.

Of course I would consider that a little white lie. He was probably not allowed to say anything at the time the question was posed.

No worries. The story we were told about him in his younger days is quite a story. Values and hard work earned him a gift of 2 KFC franchises from Col Sanders which he eventually sold and started Wendy’s.

I said Bluebeard Dave Thomas is still cruising Carnival and he is. You assumed I was referring to Wendy's Dave. Both are equally related to a steakhouse price increase.

Until there is an official announcement, everything else is inside information, and could still change. Even now, it could still change. Not everything is a leaky as the White House.

Since you brought up the White House... Your post come off like something the orange haired man in the White House would say. Lots of misdirection.[emoji15]

I worked in AG sales and was in the beef production section for 10 years. I'm not an expert on anything but I know a ton about the beef industry. When you are selling to cattlemen, ag conglomerates, etc throughout the Midwest and South, you eat at steakhouses 4/5 times! I said I wasn't bragging and certainly never did it on my own dime! I actually like seafood more than beef but don't tell anyone, my hubby is still in Ag.

1) Stables Steakhouse in Terre Haute, Indiana is the best I've ever been to.

2) St. Elmo in Indianapolis can't be beat.

3) The Knotty Pine in Dayton, Ohio is excellent.

4) The Golden Lamb in Ohio was excellent though not sure they are still around.

5) Gene and Gorgetti is the only steakhouse I've actually made a point to spend my own money at when I'm in Chicago.

Morton's and Smith & Wollensky are easily the best chains.

Golden Lamb is still around, Jeff Ruby's The Precinct is also a fabulous steakhouse.

I think for your #3 you mean the Pine Club in Dayton Ohio. Ate there last month drove by it yesterday. Steaks are great but the sides and salads are just blaahhhh.

#4 the Golden Lamb is still around. Haven't been there for a while, kind of out of sight out of mind. Thanks for reminding me.

You're absolutely right, it was the Pine Club. Haven't been to most of these places in ages, they just stand out as having the best food. I had a pretty big region covering 12 states and Western Ohio/Indian always had the best steakhouses for some reason. Always liked going near Lexington, Kentucky as well. Would put some of these places against the best in New York, Chicago or DC.

I just looked up the Golden Lamb, I'm so happy to see that it is still in existence. It looks like it has changed a bit since we used to go there but the atmosphere and history was always part of the draw. Probably went there 10-15 times in the 80s and 90s and I think we saw Pete Rose there 5 times! Didn't see the turtle soup on the menu, don't know whic was better, that soup or their prime rib!

I think it highly likely that even the finest steakhouses have served a bad meal occasionally.
