Got the "sorry" email this afternoon for our RU bid for Grandeur tomorrow (9-2-23).

😔

I am of the camp, "pick the cabin you really want," and be careful what you wish for during your Royal-Up bid.  For instance, I could pick the perfect balcony room near the elevators and stairs on a deck one or two levels below the pool deck. I get upgraded to a Junior Suite that is at the very end (stern) of the ship. At first glance, a JS is a huge upgrade but look at the Jewel of the Seas for example, the nearest elevator is midship. You have to walk half of the distance of the ship each and every time to get to your cabin from the elevator. Depending on your mobility, this could be a huge consideration.

IMO what you had was a better choice!

Completely agree with you.  We are very careful about our RU bids for this very reason.

I had an assigned inside cabin on the Oasis tomorrow. Bid minimum plus a bit for inside spacious, exterior view spacious, and panoramic spacious view. I was happy to be informed today I was unsuccessful on all of my bids.

Why would I be happy? I was informed more than 24 hours before boarding that I was denied. I have no expectations of an upgrade and fully prepared to accept the original room that I picked.

This is the way it should be.

I have rarely been informed that I was unsuccessful until after the ship had left port.

This is a step in the right direction for RCI.

Wife and daughter leave in 2 days.  No accept bids or denials at this time but 100% certain nothing will come through since all suites on their cruise have been sold out for the last 30 days or so.

Still hoping they get lucky but if not I know they will have a good time anyway.

OK...

Got an email that our upgrade payment was declined (NO idea why...I must have entered the number wrong).

As soon as I saw the email I hopped over & put in a different credit card.

All other offers show expired, but that one still shows Pending.

Do you think we are still getting the upgrade?

Interior to balcony would be nice for Alaska!

(cruise leaves the 18th)

I’d call if there was a phone #!

There isn't...Poster was right to add another card with credit available for this purchase and correct information.

Good to know! I just got a bid accepted and had seen someone else have this issue so I triple checked my info! Hope the new card works for them!

Thank you - finally the voice of reason. There are so many people - on this board - and others - that book an inside expecting to get bumped up to an inside. Then, when this does not happen they go on to post about how disappointed they are, and if anyone can crack the upgrade bidding code. It is similar to people that book a guarantee category, and then get upset because they got their guarantee category - or an unsuitable cabin in a higher category.

You are a wise person. Go into the game with no expectations, and if you happen to get an upgrade then congrats.

I got the email yesterday about placing upgrade offers on my future cruise. I'm currently in an outside balcony cabin (Oasis). I am happy with what I have, but figured I would be even happier with a larger balcony. Did go online to see where the cabins could be located, and figured why not give it a shot. I bid on two larger balcony options just above minimum. Chances of my getting are not good, but I am happy with what I have, and since I have no idea what cabin I could be assigned just was not willing to bid higher. From what I can tell the one category only has 2 cabins, so pretty much not going to happen... Was just not willing to pay for any of the suite categories, even at minimum bid.

Sailing Quantum 9/18.

Casino comped interior booked.

$260 bid got us balcony.

Officially obstructed, but it's over Jamie's outside space, so not really obstructed.

Larger balcony.

Midship deck 6--great location to easily get to activities on decks 3-5.

VERY pleased!

We have bids in for 1 bedroom Grand suite, 2 bedroom Grand suite and junior suites for next months cruise. There aren't any junior suites left but a ton of grand suites. Do you think we have good shot at a win here? Both 1 and 2 bedroom Grand suites.

What probably will happen bassed on my experience, those in the Jr. suites will bid up and get the grand suites and you will probably get a Jr. Suite.  However I wish you good luck!

Hard to guess your odds, especially since you did not tell us how high you bid.  Though you say there are a “ton” of GS’s available, because so many people are eligible to bid there are apt to be many tons (to use your terminology😉) of bids for upgrades, including bids from people already in higher categories than yours.

I did too, then, stalking the guaranteed suite rate it was within $800 of my balcony so I upgraded our room and cancelled all bids. Got assigned a JS a couple weeks later, resubmitted bids and got awarded a GS! All in paid less than picking my own JS location and perfect for an upcoming anniversary/birthday cruise! First suite with all perks 🙂

I was thinking that too and that would be ok. This on Liberty OTS.

I'm 0/8 bidding on Royalup. If there is a code to crack I'm clearly in the dark.

No code, pure wonderfully coded algorithms by a person in a basement who has no life. The airlines started this system, the hotels have followed suit, and now most vacation systems are trying to optimize the churn of seats, rooms, and suites for maximum profits.

As any gambler in a casino knows, "The house always wins in the end."

But every gambler that loses money to the house thinks, "Every time I lose, I am one gamble away from winning. One more gamble and I will win the big one."

The thought does not change probability. Probability stays the same in every gamble. The odds of losing or winning stays the same with each roll of the dice.

Casinos do not lose money. Royal Up does not lose money. Every step is calculated to maximize profits for RCI or it would not exist.

Capitalism at its best.
