Complimentary Suite Upgrades?

Does Celebrity ever do complimentary suite upgrades?

There are a number of available suites on my March 23, '19 Equinox sailing in 4 weeks.  I'm in Aqua class and the least expensive Move-up bid is $1000 per person.  The bidding has been open for a few weeks and it's not changing suite availability much.

I'd love a comp upgrade for our 20th anniversary cruise.

If you really want a suite, the best thing is to book and pay for it.  Unlikely you will ever get a suite comped....they just do not give them away for free.  Others are just waiting for that $1000.00 move-up bid to go lower and those suites will be gone!  Figure how much you're willing to pay and then call Celebrity and see if you're close.  No guarantee this will work, but it can't hurt.

Good suggestion.

From the mid 80's to the mid 00's, I'd get the number for the sailing coordinator of a particular ship; call directly and ask for a complimentary upgrade (not Celebrity) because I was in the hospitality industry.  This actually worked several times and I was upgraded for free at the last minute. It was awesome.

I think in the days of revenue management and bidding for upgrades, those days seem to be over.

Good luck!  25+ cruises and we have never received a complimentary upgrade of any kind.  We usually books Suites now and early when the prices are more reasonable.  Happy Anniversary and have a great cruise!  Equinox is our favorite ship!

I guess I would take a look at what you paid and the current cost of a Sky Suite

Currently Suite Guarantee is $2,149 for State Discount with no perks or $2,599 with 4 perks

Aqua 1  is  1,239  no perks  $1,804 with 4 perks.

Aqua 2   is  1,199 no perks  $1,499 with 4 persk

Depending on what you paid it might be cheaper just to just upgrade without move up.

I paid $3,050 w 2 perks (inclusive of port charges and fees for Aqua

Suite guarantee is about $5500 with 4 perks incl fees and charges. (so equivalent to about $5000 with 2 perks.)

Lowest Moveup offer is $1,000 PP, so no bargain...  It's a wash.  And it's not worth $2K for me to move up.

I've lost track of what happens with perks if you upgrade.  Would these folks keep their current perks, would they get suite perks ..or...would they lose all their perks if their bid is accepted?

per T&C's

Any promotions associated with the original booking will remain in effect. The Upgrade will not be eligible to receive any promotions or benefits that are applicable to the stateroom had it been originally booked at that stateroom category.

But I assume they would have access to Michael's club and Luminae...right?  still only 5 points per night (aqua) and the 2 perks they originally booked. Similarly, someone who bid to an Aqua cabin would eat in Blu?  I ask because it seems to me that they are benefits....

Yes, This is my understanding from all the posts about the Move-up program.  If you're in a suite you get suite benefits, but not added perks you didn't already purchase.  You only earn the points in the original category you booked.

Yes they would have access to Michael's Club and Luminea and Aqua (space available if in a suite).

I think the intent is that often all suites get 4 perks but on a booking below a suite will only have 2.   You would not automatically get the 4.

A Royal Suite get Free Laundry, Unlimited Specialty Dining, Premium Drink Package  etc and you WILL get these benefits but not necessarily the $300 OBC and Free Gratuities unless you had chosen it as a perk.

of course, I believe you are right....but then when you read this Celebrity suite class faq:

http://www.creative.rccl.com/Sales/Celebrity/General_Info/Flyers/14037410_CEL_Suites_FAQs.pdf

it clearly defines luminae and michael's club as new benefits.

Anyway, it seems like a poor deal either way for the OP.....but just wanted to clarify in case we get any offer at all on our next cruise.

There's a benefit that comes with the stateroom, then there are booking perks.  The GoBest promo which is included in most suite prices now are booking perks.

Jim's explanation above is 100% correct.

I understand that the "move-up" bidding is open until just before the cruise.....like 2 or 3 days before.  X can wait until all the bids are in before accepting the highest.  So it's unlikely many (if any) have been accepted yet.

So I would not effect the move up process to have much effect on "suite availability" until then.  They will be giving the upgrades to the bidders.....would not expect any freebies.

X has this figured out pretty good!

We had a balcony cabin that we wanted booked. Almost missed getting to the port in time because our flight was late and everything and anything that could went wrong.  Finally  made it to the cruise port to check in with a few minutes to spare.  The  agent  seen we that were really stressed out and said she needs  to check something.

She came back and said they could put us in the Penthouse Suite.  Luck was finally on our side.

As I was walking up the gangway I was pushed over the edge falling to the water and then...

 I woke up.

Only happens in in my wildest dreams and that one started out and ended like  a nightmare.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Wouldn't we all!  Been on 48 Celebrity cruises and never, ever been offered any free upgrades.  Now that they have Move-up bidding they are not going to be upgrading people (not that it was common before - seemed to only rarely happen to first time cruisers)

Rumor has it that the best way to get a free suite upgrade is to loose MEGABUCKS in the casino on your previous cruise.

Not so sure you have to lose. I bet if you PLAY megabucks and win you could get a free upgrade. Casinos know the odds are in their favor and in the long run they’ll win overall.

I booked a balcony guarantee on cruise next month and also inquired re upgrade but no go. Quoted me another $700 so decided to stay put. Been monitoring availability and prices daily and when prices dropped drastically on Monday got a C2 deck 10 on the hump. Was offered a sunset verandah but declined. Long walk, small balcony, no privacy from above and full sun. It all worked out great.

I just realized we've been moved from our Veranda to Conceirge class (unbeknowst to us).

I hope this is good :classic_wacko: . . . i am wary of free things. I hope it isn't a noisy room. (Maybe because the new cabin lost capacity for more than 2 guests?).

Please reassure me that this is a good move (at least there are cabins above & below us . . . would be worried being right next to a public area).

If your room has been assigned, go to the Sticky at the Celebrity Forum and check the spreadsheet for the class of ship you are on.    Also if you post your cabin number here you will hear many comments.

My understanding is once you receive a cabin you can change rooms in the same classification (e.g. C1 to C1)
