This!  And their system is so flawed in tracking them since they don't always count or check on the return.  And it isn't about towels disappearing on board but at ports - they'd do better with different colored "land" towels for ports that you check out prior to getting off at a port and check in upon getting back on board.  That wouldn't stop anyone from sneaking off the blue ones in a bag but who really goes to that much trouble to take/lose a towel?  I expect they really were losing money on towels but not certain they've offset it or that it was enough money to justify the current procedures.

Even 20-30yrs ago remember being on water/boat Shore Excursions where they used Royal, Carnival and NCL towels that passengers had left behind. One change is years ago Royal would but shore excursion towels in all cabin's nite before arriving at a Port, NCL also did that but haven't been on one of theirs in 19yrs... Even though lot of Royal Towels are worn they are nice size, better then the small/cheap ones they used in 80's into 90's. Started using these big ones when Voyager 1st sailed.

True, good point, I do feel like more were left the first time I went on a cruise - ah 15 years ago.  I'm not sure what a good resolution would be - since I liked having them waiting in the cabin but if you lose those someone will just grab someone else's off the pool deck to avoid being charged themselves.  And I'm sure it's much more efficient for the stewards to no longer be swapping them out.

I had a $200 watch credited to my account on Celebrity. They insisted it was my purchase until someone pointed out that they have CCTV in all the shops.

The footage was viewed at the time of purchase and it obviously was not me. It was only then that they gave me my money back, I don't know what I would have done if the man in the video looked like me 😲😭

Wow, like said I always check anyway. To protect us our State Govt passed this law for scanner overcharges: "30 days to contact the store (either in person or in writing). If you have found an error and have your receipt, the store may refund you the difference in pricing plus a “bonus” of ten times the difference. The bonus must be at least $1.00, but may not be more than $5.00"  ....over the years I've made hundreds, probably thousands of dollars. Their mistake, my gain.

Thousands of dollars, $5 at a time?  Where do you shop that has that many overcharges???

If he did look like you, your wife would have been REALLY upset!

Glad you were able to resolve it.

Multiple times made over $50 at a time. Sticker lists one thing different then computer. Always on top of it. Do well on clearance racks that they didn't update prices to scanner... Now my Daughter shes one of those shoppers that can do to Walgreen and get cart full of stuff for $5. Will get hundreds of coupons and Rebates sent to her in mail. Harder now but she's even got things like 100 toothbrushes and with rebates they were free, even made money getting all for free. She started a Nonprofit Company donating to rescue Missions and Woman's Shelters

I’d have refused to pay it regardless of the video.  If they charged my card I’d call the bank and have them charge it back.

Oh I see.  You said "The bonus must be at least $1.00, but may not be more than $5.00".  I interpreted that to mean that the bonus could not be more than $5.

Good for your daughter!  That's very nice.

A) l thought everybody regularly checked  their account on the screen in their room?

B) happened  to us a couple  of times, no big deal in getting  the erroneous charge(s) removed. Funniest  one was finding 2 porn film access charges on the bill.  Some awkward moments with DW until l was able to prove  that we were together elsewhere at the time(s) of viewing.

C) maybe  it's just my trusting nature, but l have  always thought "simple error" (miskeyed by someone - maybe  tired towards the end of a long  shift) rather  than a deliberate attempt to bilk me out of a few bucks.

A.)Not all ships have smart TVs that allow access to the account.  The Grandeur does not.

B.) GS is normally pretty good with removing charges when you complain, but I and several others on this thread have had to really go to bat to remove charges at times.  Typically not a big deal, but it can be annoying.  Esp. If GS line is long or concierges are busy.

C.) yes, I am trusting as well, however, what incentive does the CruiseLine have to improve a system that is making errors in favor of the CruiseLine and earning them more money?  I am sure it is not at the top of their « we need to fix it list ».

One thing we've always done on the first day is ask for everything in the fridge/mini-bar be removed. A- it makes room for us and B- reduces likelihood they can charge us for anything from it.

On another note, I wish they would update all ships to have the folio info on the tvs.  But I'm guessing it's not worth their money to do this. 😞

Royal no longer puts anything in the mini-fridge.

and that is a wonderful thing. In my 40 years o cruising, I don't think we ever purchased anything from the mini-fridge.  Nice to have the free space now.

Dining room, theater and bar scans would be more accurate if they used portable scanners and did the card scan right there. When they take cards and orders back on trays for several customers at a time the system is ripe for mixups.

I got the wrong card back when the theater waiter brought my drink and returned my card after lights dimmed. Only discovered it at dinner when they brought the receipt to sign for my wine. Had to go to GS to get a new card before I could drink anything--no other way to pay. It was the only formal night we had and the wine was to celebrate. Kinda detracted from the whole thing to be gone for half an hour. (The guy who got my card had already charged 2 new drinks! I noticed he was a 50 cent tipper, too...)

Back from a great cruise on Allure on March 24th.  Basically, the only downside was having to watch my SeaPass card like a hawk.  I had no fewer than 9 erroneous charges on my account.

1.  Three different days I was charged for someone else's drinks in the dining room (a $10.XX charge and a $15.XX charge each of those three nights) (6 different charges)

2.  My son and I were each charged for something at the Dog House - this one was an employee error.  We got dogs and sodas (from the gun; we had soda packages) and the worker said he had to run our card.  I thought it was weird but since he didn't ask us to sign something, I figured all was fine - until two charges showed up about a half an hour later; for two different amounts no less even though our orders were exactly the same.  (2 more charge)

3.  Finally, a $50 missing towel charge on my son's account at 4:00am on debarkation day (after the paper bill was received) when he NEVER checked out a towel under his name the entire cruise.

I had not signed a slip for any of these charges.

Thankfully, checking your account is very easy with the Royal App and I was able to get them reversed as they came up, but what a hassle!  Keep an eye out!

It does not surprise me the number of mistakes in the MDR.

Often they will take your card when you order drinks and you don't see your card again until you are about to leave the restaurant.

I always ask for my card back ASAP now.

Do you have to take care of erroneous charges before disembarking or can you call after the cruise?

After reading all of these posts, we will definitely check daily but I don’t know that I would want to deal with it as I’m trying to disembark if something shows up the last night.

Thanks!

This is one of the things I prefer at Carnival. There are beach/pool towels for each person upon arrival on the ship in the stateroom. Anytime you need them exchanged, just put em on the bathroom floor with the other towels, or if in a hurry call housekeeping. Plus they are bigger and softer.
