What I did not know about Diamond drinks

Recommended Posts

Just got off the Grandeur this morning. This was my third cruise since reaching Diamond status. I did not realize that drinks in the Diamond lounge are unlimited. I had previously thought we were only allowed three, until my friend told me otherwise. And she was right. 😀

Three drinks during cocktail hour loaded on your SeaPass card for use at most bars around the ship & in the MDR on some ships.  Unlimited drinks in the DL.

so let me get this straight, you get unlimited in the DL AND 3 more on top of it during off hours?

Unlimited in the lounge and 3 outside the lounge, all during the evening free cocktail period.

The 3 that you can use outside the lounge expire every night, you cannot accumulate those for subsequent nights.

That must be a change as we were in the Allure last October and the Schooner Bar would not honor it as we were there five minutes before the Loyalty drinks started.

No all drinks have to been consumed during the nightly posted cocktail hours- no off hour free ones

I usually bring some dollar bills for tipping in the DL and the bars. If I need to change a larger bill, I usually go to the casino. The 3 free drinks are only available during the DL happy hour (hours vary depending on ship), and is a limited selection. You don't have to finish the drink during happy hour. I've gotten a glass of wine, and taken it to my cabin for later consumption. (Tip: Pour it into a standard glass in the room -- the swaying of the cabin can cause the typical wine glass to topple over.) We've even taken bar drinks in to the dining room. The 3 free drinks are not available in the MDR, but they let you take a drink in there.

Did you try the cappuccino coffee machine? It is available during the day and is unlimited.

I discovered the coffee machine towards the end of the cruise, after several days of the WJ coffee, and buying Starbucks. 😀

Most (I won't say all, but most) of the ships are now allowing the vouchers to be used in the MDR.  (and the other restaurants around the ship)

Which only works during early seating or MTD during those hours.  We always get late seating so it's a no go since happy hour ends as late dining starts.  I carry a glass from the DL or CL to dinner some nights.

One of my biggest pleasures on a cruise is going to the D Lounge and getting my cappuccino and continental breakfast. Don't have breakfast anywhere else. It's usually very peaceful. Rarely use the 3 drinks on the card since we get our drinks in the lounge before dinner. We might carry one to the dining room to have with dinner.

No.  The three drinks loaded on your sea pass card can only be obtained while the lounges are operating during cocktail hour.

We also have never been able to get a voucher drink in the MDR late seating. On our last cruise on Symphony we were able to get a diamond voucher drink in the specialty restaurants with a 8pm reservation.  Left the overflow lounge at closing walked straight over to our restaurant for that night and asked if we could use the voucher, only Chops said no, and we did not go to Hooked.. All the others were no problem.

No hot chocolate dispensed from machine. But there are usually packs of hot chocolate mix right by machine to make a cup or two.

Or my favorite concoction, half a package  of hot  chocolate mix  in the cup prior to making the cappuccino!  My own mocha.
