Due to a recent promotion, I have $250 non refundable OBC, as well as $250 military veteran credit.  First, is the veteran credit refundable, and if so, which OBC do they debit first.

Yes, the veterans' OBC is refundable and Princess always uses the non-refundable OBC first. If you have refundable OBC left at the end of the cruise, there are 2 ways you get it back. If it is less than $25 you can get it paid to you at the Passenger Services desk the last night of the cruise. If it's over $25, it will be returned to you by a third party check which will come in the mail to you, normally 4-6 weeks after the end of the cruise, sometimes sooner. The actual time it takes to get processed varies, I believe, according to how many checks the 3rd party has to process from the various cruises that they are processing at any given time. That is purely a guesstimate on my part. There is also a way to get your returnable OBC refunded to you by going to the casino, transferring funds from your OB account, playing the slots for a while and then withdrawing the balance of the funds you transferred .

Hope this answers your question.

That should be NON-REFUNDABLE OBC for casino play. Refundable is for want of another word...refundable.

Unless you also have free gratuities, you probably won't have to worry about refundable or not as the funds will be consumed.

Simply take some Princess excursions in addition to paying the daily hotel charges.

Not unless you spend a frugally as we do. We book 99% of our tours from independent operators, pay our gratuities on our credit card & don't buy many drinks if at all.

Unless I spot a real deal in the Princess sales events we take most of our OBC in cash.

I'm confused. If you have a lot of OBC why would you pay gratuities on your credit card?

One reason would be to get the points, miles or whatever rewards most credit cards offer. Why pay cash (OBC) with no points if you can pocket the cash and pay on your cc?

Bingo ! :classic_biggrin:

If you pay with OBC you get nothing. Not that 400 points or so means all that much.

As kids, we were taught that a penny saved is a penny earned!

:classic_laugh:LOL

I can remember my dad some years ago walking across the street with his cane and would bend over to pick up a penny laying in the road.

Casino. Put non-refundable amount (after you account for all future deductions) into a slot machine. Play for as long as you desire (win a little, lose a little...it's "free" $), then cash out.

again ... for now ... but clearly against Princess "policy" IF they should begin enforcing it ...

On our last Emerald cruise, Feb./March 2019 there was a large sign at the entrances to the casino which stated you can charge casino play to your on board account. If was against Princess' policy the sign would not be there.

the 'policy' is regarding non-refundable credit used in casinos ... nothing to do 'at that exact point' with what you are able to charge to your OBA ...

Exactly how would Princess enforce a policy that didn't allow you to use your nonrefundable OBC?

for gratuities and in the casino ... everywhere else is fine ...

another non-enforced princess policy ... yet
