Stardancer68 Posted July 1, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2019 Can someone please tell me whether or not you have to pay a corkage fee if you take a bottle of wine to dinner that you have brought onboard and already opened in your cabin. Thanks for any replies.
Clarea Posted July 1, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2019 You are subject to a corkage fee, but they sometimes don't charge you.
Ourusualbeach Posted July 1, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 1, 2019 Opened or unopened, it makes no difference. The fee is for consuming the bottle in a public space not for having it opened. Like Bob said, many times they don’t charge you.
Hogbay Posted July 1, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2019 Those wine bottels don't hold much ☺if you have already sampled some you could just put rest in to two glasses. Available from any bar .
Norwich Cruiser Posted July 1, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2019 We’ve twice taken a couple of bottles of wine onboard but have never been charged a corkage fee. Having said that only on one occasion did we take one to the MDR and it was already opened we informed our waiters were absolutely fine with it. Rare kernow Posted July 1, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2019 If we want to do this we always pour a glass in the cabin and carry it in.

spookwife Posted July 1, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 1, 2019 we have ALWAYS been charged the corkage fee. so now we just drink in the cabin on our balcony.
Rare island lady Posted July 1, 2019 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2019 Keep in mind, there are many bottles of wine out there that do not have traditional corks. Screw cap. But as mentioned, the fee is not to open the bottle..it's the service provided, plus container of ice to keep the wine chilled (if needed). And am also in the same camp of simply walking in with your filled glass of wine for dinner. It also makes it nice if you have to wait for your table. 😉

Can I ask what ship(s)? We weren't charged on Symphony but I know it's a gamble.
facsbrat Posted July 1, 2019 #11 Share Posted July 1, 2019 Just got back from 3 day Navigator of the Seas and was not charged a corkage fee in Chops. No mention was made of the fee and the waiter treated it as if we had bought it at the restaurant. It seems like YMMV.
George C Posted July 1, 2019 #12 Share Posted July 1, 2019 We didn’t get charged corkage on last several rccl cruises

I know there are plenty under $10 that have twist off.

Over $15 to $20 a bottle? I’ll be on the look out for those twisted caps. Lol i bought a good bottle of Tito’s with the twisted caps and the bottle leaked. Don’t think the Vodka would go bad but surely good wine would, I would think. Edited July 1, 2019 by Milwaukee Eight

Supposedly there is a significant percentage of failure in using cork. Some wines have gone to synthetic corks.

A lot of good white wines have the screw top. I’m talking $30-35 a bottle . We have visited many vineyards and are starting to notice it.
neverbeenhere Posted July 1, 2019 #20 Share Posted July 1, 2019 There is a winery located at a farm named Boone. A guy on the street told me that they make excellent screw cap vintages.

Too many very good wines have been destroyed by tainted corks. Let's face it...corks are shaved off of the bark of a tree. Many of my customers lamented about having their very good wines ruined by cork taint (bacteria). New Zealand was one of the first to steer away from tree bark. Good wine...smells like wet newspaper...ruined by cork taint.
