GV occupancy - do babies count?

We’re daydreaming about a family trip with kids and grandkids.  We have 6 kids and 8 grandkids, one of whom is a 4-month old.  GV occupancy is 8, right?  Does the baby count towards the 8?  And if no, at what age does she count?

 

Also, one adult is a non-drinker.  If we allocate people so we have 5 kids and 3 adults in one GV, can adult 3 buy a soda pkg along with kids or does he have to buy a booze pkg, even though he doesn’t drink?

As far as we can see from the NCL FAQs, the baby cannot sail until she is six months old (twelve months if the cruise has three consecutive sea days).  After that she becomes a paying passenger and is counted.

A child counts as a person towards sleeping capacity. The minimum age on embarkation has to be 6 months old or 1 year old if there are 3 or more consecutive sea days.

 

Anyone can buy a soda program and no other guest is forced to buy a soda program.

I think OP was saying 2 of the 3 adults in their party are drinkers, and was wondering if the 3rd adult can just buy the soda package (not the alcohol package) if the first 2 buy the alcohol package.

Once she's 6 months old, she can sail, and she definitely counts towards the room capacity, which is the total amount of humans in the room: adults, kids, and babies.

 

She won't have to pay the daily service charge -- children don't pay the DSC until they turn 3.

If it happens, we will “allocate” everyone to make best use of ubp

GV1 would be 2 adult drinkers, 1 adult non-drinker, 5 kids

GV2 would be some combo of all adult drinkers and kids

and then I guess we’d get the cheapest inside cabin for 2 leftover adults so they each get UBP which would probably pay for the cabin.

 

How can we make this work?

If guests 1&2 get the promo, guest 3 (the adult) can buy the soda program.

 

If guests 1&2 BUY the PBP, guest 3 (the adult) has to buy the PBP and guests 4-8 (the kids) have to buy the soda program for ages 3 and older.

3 adults will either have to buy the PBP or pay for drinks a la carte. I suggest the 6 biggest drinkers are guests 1&2 in each stateroom and the 3 lightest drinkers pay a la carte.

 

Put the baby in the GV to save a few on the DSC while filling the interior with 2 adults and 2 kids.

 

GV1 - 2 adult big drinkers (1&2), infant, 5 kids.

GV2 - 2 adult big drinkers (1&2), 3 light drinkers, 1 adult non-drinker.

Interior - 2 adult big drinkers, 2 kids.

 

Where everyone actually sleeps is up to you guys.

The cruise itself will determine which way this works the best. If you get a 3-4 (or more) sail free then it may be better to book suites. If not, to get the beverage packages it may be better to have inside, o v, or balcony room for 2-4 people. Also, sometimes the price is better if you don't get the drink package (for nondrinkers). Once you have a specific sailing you can research depending on that particular ship.

 

Not to burst your bubble, but my experience with groups have been they are not reliable and you are better off booking your own room and letting everyone else fend for themself.

 

Here is what I do: I am booking this cruise on this day and here is the travel agent to contact to join us, then let everyone else book their own from there. As people cancel it causes problems for the others. Hope everything works out for you.

If you are booking Garden Villa(s), you will get bottles of alcohol and cans of mixers w/ garnishes (unless this has recently changed).  Therefore, some of your "drinking concerns" might not matter.

 

As for number of passengers, think of it as "head count", so yes, a baby counts!

Which ship?  Dawn and Star changed to seven a few years back.  Jewel Class still eight.

Anyone regardless of age is counted as a passenger because of maritime safety regulations. The ship is rated for a certain number of persons on board and that may not be exceeded.

You are better off staying out of the GV. For two cabins you are going to get a total of 4 UBPs. The other 5 adults pay full price for the UBP which is over $750 per week. By cramming everyone into these suites you are going to end up paying a lot more than if you just got a bunch of balcony cabins.

Not exactly the answer you are looking for but note the beverages INSIDE the GV are complimentary:

Tell your Butler what you want stocked in the fridge

 

Now about that Soda issue - outside of the GV a beverage package would be required.

In the GV all soft drinks are complimentary and depending on the length of the cruise 6 bottles of booze

and the fixens mixers etc. - wine and beer are extra.

What you give the infant to drink is your own business - I am not going there ! LOL !

 

Owners suites are pretty much on the same scale of operation as the GV regarding beverages - KEY word is Owners.

 

All other suites are like the rest of the cabins on the ship - with a chargeable mini-bar and booze --- soda

require a respective beverage package or pricing by individual drink.

 

 

Regarding the infant guest cruiser:

The infant in the GV adds to the headcount of the cabin and souls on board.

Special life vests are provided for children and infants.

Anyone with a brain can read our little exchange - wherein you compare the conditions for general passengers on a 4500+ mega cruise ship with those on board the Royal Yacht Britannia - and decide for themselves who is lacking a clue.

Off the top of my head I am saying babies under 6 months can not sail so the rest doesn't make any difference

This is such great info, thanks.  Looking at prices - pricier than i thought it would be, but at least now I have enough info to properly scope it out and maybe distribute people accordingly.
