Sailing ship for 2nd time?

How many cruises did it take for (some of) you to sail on a ship for the 2nd time?

Just curious, I'm coming up on my 9th cruise and we haven't been on same ship, yet.  Nothing intentional we just try to cruise on the best bang for the buck itinerary during certain quarters of the year.

Paradise in 2 months is first cruise we've booked with a very specific timeline... and we are paying a premium rate due to demand.

I have been on 1 NCL cruise and 1 Carnival cruise.  Last years Carnival cruise was on Miracle, and the one we just booked is the Legend.  Not the same exact ship but same class, but my wife and I loved the Spirit class ships since they are small and have the Serenity deck with a pool.  So 2 cruises and basically the same ship.

Well, technically my 3rd cruise was on the same ship as my 2nd because we did a B2B. Then my 9th and 10th cruises were on that same ship, on another B2B. I generally don’t book for the ship. The itinerary is more important. Though I did book the Vista just for the Havana area, and the Mardi Gras for the roller coaster.

It took me a few, but I've repeated several... Freedom, Jubilee, Victory, Sensation, Dream, Grand Princess, Crown Princess, Ruby Princess..... on princess it's no big deal, because all  their ships have basically the same decor and similar layouts... I don't know... doesn't bother me. Each cruise a new adventure, and the  familiarity can be fun... it's like coming home, the learning curve is gone and the ship is infused with good memories.

My first three cruises were on Elation and two of my next three were on Triumph. Two of my last four were on Dream. Two of my next three are on Magic. I'll be on Breeze for a second time in 2021.

For me the Elation and Triumph ones were price and convenience as a new cruiser. Now it's about ship and itinerary for me. Dream class is my favorite so that's why there's a lot of Dream, Breeze, Magic..and all of the itineraries are different,

LOL- In my first six cruises two were on Elation and two were on Conquest. I'll be going on the Vista for the second time in February and that will be my ninth cruise and I might do it again at Christmas of next year. And I almost went a third time on the Conquest but had to cancel. Honestly port of debarkation played a big role in these double trips. The port of Galveston is only around a seven hour drive and an hour and half direct flight from where I live so I like going out of there.

We normally pick the latest ship that's come out.  Two different times we went on the same ship though.  Once we were invited to join a group on the Victory that we had already been on and once we wanted to go to an island that we hadn't been to before and it was on the Conquest that we had already sailed on.

I never thought to look and see how many times I have been on a specific ship as I book for itinerary, price, and time of year I can sail, so I just went ahead and tallied them up.   I was kind of shocked to see how many times I have been on certain ships without realizing it:   CCL Conquest 4x, Glory 3x, Splendor 3x, Liberty 4x, Breeze 3x, Miracle 3x, Freedom 3x, Disney Magic 2x, NCL Breakaway 2x, Epic 2x, Getaway 2x, and assorted other ships 1x.  I have no desire to sail on the mega-ships yet, and now that CCL Magic is sailing out of FLL (where we have a vacay condo we use now and then) I guess I will start having more tally marks on her - first one upcoming in January.

Hi ☺️

It only took one sailing, LOL!

My wife & I have been cruising on Carnival, Royal & Princess since the early 80's.

After our very 1st voyage we said to one another, "We have to do that again"😄

So one week after disembarking, we booked a B2B on the very same ship.

Ever since our 2nd sailing on that particular B2B cruise, all of our future sailings over the decades have been either back to back's, or voyages 12-nights or longer. One cruise we were indeed addicted.🤗

On Carnival I first sailed Splendor and went 5X that year and then did Sunshine 3X followed by Pride 6X and doing the Journey's on Pride again in January...(dates in signature)

I guess the reason was location...leaving from NY and Baltimore means no flying!

I've cruised the Fantasy twice, but not necessarily by choice.  My daughter lives in Charleston which is where the Fantasy was located. The first time. We just needed to get away and since my daughter lived there, it was convenient.  The 2nd time was for a girls' cruise and someone else planned it.  I'm done with the Fantasy

I've cruised the same ship more than once because it was the closest to me in terms of ports and I prefer doing 8 night itineraries; I've cruised the same 2 ships at least twice each, and this Christmas sailing a different ship for the second time; and then next New Years Eve sailing the same ship on another line that we took to Bermuda.  I like doing the same ships because we generally know the layout of the land, but I also enjoy exploring new ships.  It's really not a good thing or a bad think I think.

We sailed the Sunshine for 7 days out of Canaveral and loved it.  When we learned she was going to sail out of Charleston (near our home) 5 months later we booked the same ship AND the same cabin.

It was nice knowing the layout of the ship.  In that period of time the CD, cabin staff, piano guy, and MDR staff were all different so it felt like a different experience.  Even the passenger vibe was different - still good but different.

IMHO and based on our experience, it's the staff that make the difference not the floor plan.🙂

I I have.   The Maasdam I sailed on three times.  All three same cabin, but wonderful sailing.  On Carnival,  sailed the Dream when she first sailed from Port Canaveral  and last year out of New Orleans.   This year sailed on the Valor in September and returning to her in December.   Have no problem sailing the same ship especially if the price is reasonable  and ports I like

We've been cruising since the late 80's, and with many cruise lines. In 2020 we will make our 25th cruise. We have cruised with Celebrity, Cunard, RCCL, NCL and most recently with Carnival. We will cruise on the Carnival Pride for the 7th time in a few weeks. Our reason??? We don't have to fly to the port, we like the size of the ship, the crew, the price and on and on. The funny thing is, I wasn't crazy about our first Carnival Pride cruise, but I decided to give it another try. That second trip was what did it for us. Ever since then, we seem to venture back to the Pride. We don't really need the mega ships, although we'll probably try one at some point. They're great if you have kids as there are many activities to keep them occupied. It's not at all unusual to cruise on a ship a number of times. Enjoy your cruise.

Two.  My first 2 cruises were on the then smoke free Paradise.  There are some Conquest class ships I have sailed more than 5 times each in the following 15 years of cruising.  Pricing and casino fares have probably contributed to choosing repeat ship sailings.

We also sailed the Crown Princess twice, but on wildly different itineraries, Alaska and the Med.

Two of our first three cruises were on the Glory. Overall sailed On Glory 5 times.

Given that there are 74 ships among the “Big Three”  bargain line’s alone (Royal Caribbean, Carnival and NCL), it could take 75 times before a repeat on just them. But of my 28 (or 29) sailings my 2nd and 8th were on Maasdam.  I’ve sailed Noordam three times - obvious that early on I preferred HAL.  Sadly, they are following the others down. So further repeats are unlikely.  We are booked for our third QM2 later this year— and expect to soon have repeats on Oceania and Azamara.

We’ve never particularly sought out the same ship - rather going by itinerary - for her first several winters Noordam sailed from nearby New York to the Caribbean, making her a natural when HAL was still a step above the rest

I've been on five cruises (a pittance by this board's standards, I'm sure) and haven't had a repeat, although I've been on the Disney Magic and the Carnival Magic 😅

I think if I was going to do a repeat ship it would be Oasis of the Seas. But I see so many cool new ships coming out every year that it's impossible to think of repeating one yet.
