Trevor Fountain Posted October 30, 2019 #13 Share Posted October 30, 2019 Tch. So you get your $1 back if you cancel. Over here in the sunny U.K. we get a fabulous deal, not. £1pp LOW DEPOSIT OFFERS & PAYMENTS TERMS & CONDITIONS Low Deposit - General 1. Cruise Specialist may periodically offer customers a ‘low deposit’ option. Your Specialist Cruise Consultant will be able to advise on eligibility details at the time of enquiry. 2. When you choose this 'Low Deposit' option and make a low deposit payment, it means you (the Lead Name on the booking) have accepted these conditions for yourself and each member of your party. 3. In order to qualify & secure a booking for a low deposit offer, you must pay the ‘Low Deposit’ by debit or credit card. Low Deposit - with the remainder of the Full Deposit paid by debit or credit card 4. The remainder of the Full Deposit amount and payment date will be advised by your Specialist Cruise Consultant. 5. If you make any changes to your booking PRIOR to the date on which the remainder of the full deposit has been paid, please be aware that this may affect the total amount of the remainder of the full deposit. If it does, then you agree to pay the amended amount of the remainder of the full deposit amount. 6. If you cancel your booking PRIOR to the date on which the remainder of the Full Deposit must be paid, you will still be liable to pay the remainder of the Full Deposit. You agree to this amount being processed through the same debit or credit card used for the low deposit payment. Note - this amount is the minimum cancellation charge, which is the remaining deposit amount as required by the cruise line plus Cruise Specialist cancellation fee. Low Deposit - with other payments through our Direct Debit Scheme 7. The remaining deposit amount and payment date will be advised by your Specialist Cruise Consultant and will be taken as the next payment of the Direct Debit Subscription schedule in monthly instalments. Why they even bother offering us a £1 deposit offer is beyond me.

Maybe someone else has specific knowledge on this. I know when I used to book my own cruises directly through Princess the sales popped up online at all different times. Some times it was before 5-6 am Pacific time and other times not until 9am Pacific. Now that I use a TA system, sometimes the new fares pop up earlier and sometimes later than the Princess website. 2 hours ago, JennyB1977 said: So, is it smart to put a hold on a cruise/room you want today? Will this work, time to call my TA. If you put a hold on a cruise today you are issued a booking number, which then would not be a "new" cruise booking tomorrow. That being said, your TA might be able make it work but it may require a bit more extra work on their part as they may have to call in to Princess instead of doing it online. Although we all don't know for sure right now how holds will work with the $1 deposit. We'll find out tomorrow, though! My recommendation would be to pick out your cruise, cabin, and send that info to your TA so he/she can jump on it tomorrow. See above
JoAnneNYI Posted October 30, 2019 #17 Share Posted October 30, 2019 So if I take advantage of this...what is the best way to handle trip insurance if want the pre existing waiver in which need to pay for said insurance within 14 days of deposit? Especially if I'm booking 2 years out.

Seems silly to have to pay for insurance to protect a $1 deposit, but if you're needing it for pre existing coverage you'll have to pay the insurance soon after booking. Might make more sense to wait a bit and book when the early insurance coverage could help with a larger nonrefundable deposit AND the pre existing coverage. The insurance cost will give you a bigger bang for your buck then. Just my opinion, though.
Rare ghstudio Posted October 30, 2019 #19 Share Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) Since the $1 is refundable, there is nothing to insure....and that's actually a very real problem that most will ignore. I say most, because if you have a claim later or on the cruise, the insurance company, knowing insurance law and their fine print, may legally refuse to pay. That's true whether you insure that trip for $1 or the full amount you will ultimately have to pay.... My suggestion is to talk to one of the online travel insurance companies...not your TA or cruise line. Edited October 30, 2019 by ghstudio

The insurance cost will give you a bigger bang for your buck then. Just my opinion, though. I get insurance for the smallest amount I can when I make a deposit. This time $500 coverage was the same as $5 so that is what I get. Then as nonrefundable payments are made I can increase the insurance accordingly. This locks in the requirement for coverage within so many days but still keeps the cost relatively low should I not need it. You only have to cover the nonrefundable portion of your trip to be considered fully covered (a requirement for CFAR)
echoshipmate Posted October 30, 2019 #24 Share Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) The biggest problem with this promotion is so many people book with a very low intention of ever actually going, thus wildly reducing the available cabins for those of us who are serious. It also takes many of the most desirable cabins out of inventory. Personally, I am not a fan of a cheap, refundable deposit, $ 1, really? Never much advance notice . TA’ s here on CC often are alerted first and post . This one on a date , around no significant event , is unusual. It does work for Princess . I book a far in the future cruise on a whim most every time , and end up taking that cruise. Edited October 30, 2019 by MCC retired
