Yes.

The parents pay for the cruise, the kids did not.

How is that for a clear, level-headed, unemotional, logical reply?

So umder your scheme do parents get double points because they paid twice?

And for those parents that have their kids pay/contribute to their fare? What do we do with them?

I mean based on your standard we'd have to start allocating C&A points based off who paid what % of the total invoice.....

Of the 21 cruises we have taken with our kids we have only shared a cabin twice.  Every other cruise they (I) have paid full fare so since Royal won’t give me the points the kids certainly have earned and deserve them.

If you are going to promote the 1/2 point plan then it needs to apply to every 3rd and higher guest in a cabin and not just the kids.

I'm sure you've seen this subject pop-up many times. As I said in a previous post, most of the usual solutions to the overcrowding in the lounge involve raising the point levels required to enter and/or changing it to a D+ lounge, neither which are popular (thank you Capt. Obvious!! lol).

As the subject is drinking during happy hour, I'd figured I'd propose something in a different direction and make minors who have accumulated points during their childhood (non-drinking years) at least try to earn a few of those points during their drinking years.  Apparently , that idea is even less popular. LOL. But I didn't think it thru either as there are plenty of other diamond benefit other than HH drinks that the children should not be denied either.

I say this in every thread like this but at the end of the day Royal doesn’t give a sh** about the crowding in the lounge.  They have put in place alternatives and if the kids can’t play nice in the sandbox too bad.

100% agree.

Why all the fuss.  Drinks you can get anywhere,  either in DL or CL, bars  or restaurants.  What you only can get in lounges are the appetizers.  I like pigs in a blanket, meatballs, fried shrimp, meat on a stick, spring rolls, fried mushrooms, cheeses, canapes, chocolates and desserts.  I will drink elsewhere but give me my apps.

Nope

I only suggested that as many on this thread are suggesting kids shouldn’t get ponts because they didn’t pay or pay less as a third and fourth guest.  They pay the same as an adult third or fourth guest unless it’s KSF.  Should the third or fourth adult not get any points.  Giving kids points is an easy way to breed a future generation of cruisers.   If they are Diamond at 18,  then they are super likely to return as an adult with their children.

Been in the Diamond lounge many many times and I’ve never heard any brag about their cruise total. I have heard a few folks cry about how long it will take them to get to wear the personalized pin.

i agree.  The DL is the least likely place I hear people brag about their cruises.  I am much more likely to hear someone on their 4th cruise brag bout that than someone on their 40th or 400th.  Typically, I have found that it gets to the point where most people just say « a lot ». When people ask me how many I’ve been on, I just say « a fair amount »

To be fair, if they were to make the DL 21+ to gain entry and had the apps and other items available elsewhere with a Diamond level Seapass you'd probably get some traction..... not many kids wanna sit around in the lounge anyway

Dazzles and the attic have nothing scheduled during that time, so there would likely be no reason to go in there. Jazz on four would have nothing scheduled either, that is why they use it as an overflow since it is next to the diamond lounge

Nothing  is taken away from the general population

Only time I see it happen is on Voyager and Freedom class when the turn all of deck 14 into the Happy Hour venue.

No. Isn't the pleasure of sharing your cruise with your children benefit enough? 😉

I don't know. Honestly my post was a knee-jerk reaction that I didn't think through.

Hmmmm, I'm not saying I'm a advocate of that idea but some may be.

Then again, as someone who books balcony rooms, I might be able to get behind it.

EDIT: Nah,  I wouldn't get behind it.  I usually book the cheapest balcony rooms.

That’s kind of fuzzy math. All those free drinks don’t cost RCI anywhere near 150k. With the cheap booze they serve in the diamond lounge and the volume they buy at, I’d be very surprised if each drink costs them a buck.

Even at a buck it adds up. A bartender on our Symphony TA told me they would serve over 75,000 happy hour beverages .That included cocktails, beer wine and water.

They will never get rid of the suite lounge. Those folks are spending a lot of money to be on the ship and deserve a lounge.

m

Yeah, I realize that. Just me thinking out loud. Wonder if those staying in suites would stop cruising with RC if RC did eliminate the SL? 😏

I have not but then maybe Royal should treat triple rooms like JS and give you double points.

Or as i said in an earlier post, give the kids 1/2 point for each night. (2-nights-for-1 point)

Going on Harmony and everyone else in our party taking a standard oceanview balcony is coming out to around $3100 for a couple.  Our room is a triple and prices out at $5800.  Why should the kid get a half point?

I don't understand the logic in children or spouses or significant others getting a cruiser's matching status.  If you sail, you get the points.  If you don't sail but paid for the cruise, currently you get no points.  So why give points (or more accurately, status) to people who have not sailed?

To sell vacation packages to families and multiple-party families

I like this idea in a way. Points should be based on $ spent per sailing in all aspects with Royal including Casino, Excursions, Drinks, Speciality Dinning, Onboard Stores, Sanctioned Port Shopping, and so on. I think you get the jest. Couldn’t be more fair (fare lol) than this to reward points.

In my opinion.

MB said no changes to program in 2020 during his presentation today

Not the least bit surprising. The C&A program is a wildly massive success... retaining more and more loyal cruisers now and into the future for years to come.

John, is there any way to find out on your current President's sailing how many total PNs, D+ and D's there are at this time?

I dont, doesn't matter if its a spouse or cruise mate,  if you are not diamond on your own tough. I dont see how I can marry someone and me being D+ and my new wife never cruising she is D+ also.  C&A status is earned.

Sorry but then I would have flipped flopped who is listed in the suite

Her hubby is no dummy..... when he ditches her and the 5 kiddos, his next co-habitation person will live a higher life.

Sorry, that is all in jest... which is what this thread is... another wasted loser joke thread.

all it took was a post quoting "very reliable source"  and 121 posts later.

I do remember for a fact when the Diamonds were booted out of the concierge...that hurt!! And Diamonds only complimentary drinks were cheap wine or 50% off beer....and that was not that long ago.

I do remember that for my first two or three cruises as a diamond and I thought it was awesome.

Didn’t the Logan’s Run movie have the Carrousel to solve the overcrowding issue?  😎

Yes it did.  I like where you are going.  It would solve so many problems, as long as you are not ethically challenged.
