Rare Sparky74 Posted November 27, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2019 We had 2 shore excursions cancelled on our recent cruise on Golden Princess. As a result our onboard account had a healthy credit balance at the end of the cruise. How long will it take for Princess to refund this amount to our credit card? LC1950 Posted November 27, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2019 We had some refundable onboard credit after our cruise in October. The refund cheque arrived in the letterbox about 2 weeks after disembarkation.

It isn't usually credited to your CC Sparky, but a cheque will be sent. It usually takes 2-6 weeks to arrive. Leigh

It will most likely be refunded to you by cheque. Our last one took around two months to arrive, but you could receive it in a couple of weeks. If it was non-refundable OBC used to pay for the excursions, it won't be refunded most likely. Leigh

The_Big_M Posted November 28, 2019 #9 Share Posted November 28, 2019 I received a refund cheque from Princess last year, but this year the refund was sent straight back to the credit card.
Ombud Posted December 4, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 4, 2019 For the 1st time ever I disembarked with a refund due. Hope it isn't an issue. Boarded with $57A refundable and $300A nonrefundable OBC. Lost then won (! Shocker! 🤑) in casino and wound up with $374A refundable. Waiting on check. I never win in casino (well guess I can't say that anymore) and deposited winnings in $A bc I'm hoping for a check in $US, seemed easier in my (slightly) intoxicated state 🙂

A couple of weeks ago I cancelled half a dozen shorex on Princess website when I cancelled our Majestic Princess cruise for February. Just got credit card statement, been re credited already. They are pretty quick about it. Same with P&O UK shorex for cancelled Arcadia cruises in March/April, back on the card in a few days.

I'd almost forgotten what they were until recently when I received one for 0.60c recently in the mail, proceeds from sale of unmarketable bundle of shares I'd bought many moons ago. Not sure what I'll do with, any suggestions?
Aus Traveller Posted December 20, 2019 #15 Share Posted December 20, 2019 We returned from a cruise on the Sea Princess on Thursday. I noted that some OBCs that used to be refundable, are no longer refundable.😢
Ombud Posted December 21, 2019 #16 Share Posted December 21, 2019 A little concerned but my receipt says refundable: Another question: my next cruise to Australia lists gratuities due but I'm not used to paying them there. Is this new?

Is this new? Depends which cruise line and where, as in which country, it is booked. Most cruises in Australia and New Zealand waters, when booked within Australia, include gratuities (HAL is one exception, there may be others). If booked outside Australia grats may not be included unless it's a perk.

Is this new? The usual accounting practice is to show credits with a minus sign. I know that this is counter-intuitive, but this is the way it is done. 🙂 You should get a cheque for $374.58. Does your next cruise show that you can pay gratuities, or does it show an amount that is due? I have had the former and assume that Princess just shows the same information for all its fleet, including the Australian-based ships. Gratuities are not payable on Australian-based cruises. I have the odd situation (well, odd to me!) where I have booked a segment of the World Cruise on the Sea Princess from UK to USA. My booking shows that I have to pay gratuities. No way! I know that the stewards/waiters/bartenders are paid on a higher flat wage and that they are not part of the tips pool that operates on the rest of the Princess fleet. possum52 Posted December 21, 2019 #20 Share Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) I thought for passengers other than Australians and New Zealanders, gratuities had to be paid on top of the fare on Princess cruises even of booked in Australia? Yes, a debit to Princess = a credit to me. I did ask if they can just roll it over to my next Australian cruise (8/2020) but rep said it's too far in processing. So I'll get USD and buy more A$ (or prepay gratuities)

Not quite. Gratuities are not payable on Australian bookings. The cruises themselves still have gratuities. It's just Australian bookings adjust the pricing so they are included in the price in line with Australian pricing custom.
Rhonbru Posted December 22, 2019 #25 Share Posted December 22, 2019 my understanding is that if the cruise starts or finishs in australia the gratuities are included in the price.....but other cruises in other parts of the world the gratuities are extra.
