It's time Carnival allow guest to cancel there cruise, with out penalty, if they think it's not safe to travel. Most airlines have implemented this now.

I agree! I'm immunocompromised and have until April to cancel my trip. I'm hoping Carnival allows their guests to cancel without penalty before that but if not I'll take the loss. I can understand why some people are still moving forward with their travel plans but it's truly not a risk i'm willing to take.

They have loosened up their policy.  Doubt it will change any further.

Do you have travel insurance? Your situation could be a covered reason for cancellation with medical documentation.

what have they changed?  Some airlines have gone from 0 refunds to full refunds... Carnival can and should do more

Ok, since You brought It up, what do you think they should do more than that?

Going on the Horizon leaving the 15th of March. We are excited and looking forward to our cruise. I'm thinking if it was unsafe to sail that Carnival would be canceling cruises.

Any thoughts??

We leave Saturday on Horizon with our 10-year old granddaughter. Should be interesting.

The airlines are not giving refunds.  They are only waiving change fees if you decide to postpone your trip. (You must still travel up until one year from the original ticketing date).  If you decide to cancel your trip altogether, you still lose your money.

What to do while playing in the casino?  Apply hand sanitizer after each press on the slot machine, or each hand in card games?

Touching things isn’t the problem. It’s touching things and then handling food and/or touching your face that makes you sick.

If you’re there for a short time, just wash your hands when you’re done. If you’re there for hours at a time, then try carrying some hand sanitizer on you.

My plan is to try and not touch may face. At all.

But I know I’ll be at the crap table, so that’s about the best I can do.

Wear gloves.

Disposable -or silk -or white cotton -your choice

I doubt you'll be the only one doing so..and if you are.. set a trend!

I just found it. It is NOT at the top of the thread, but at the very bottom. Most people aren’t scrolling past the last comment on a page, which is probably why many don’t know about it.

Its simple actually. If you've been to China you must have a PASSPORT. On that passport it'll show the dates that you were there. If you've been in China over the last 14 days they will see that. Short of demanding everyone produce a passport, it should take care of itself.

China requires US Citizens to obtain a Visa.  It is in your passport and would stick out like a sore thumb.  Plus they are stamp happy.  I had one in my last passport.  It always fell open to the 2 pages dedicated to the visa.

I think the answer lays in that it definitely shows at the TOP of my screen. I'm on a laptop. It appears those that did screen shots were from a smart phone. Just my guess.

I'm on a laptop too and it's at the top of my screen.

I would use a wipe to clean the machine first.  And hand sanitizer after play.  Since you are the only one touching the button, if you clean it, I wouldn't clean it after each press.  Probably hand sanitizer after playing cards.  But I'm a face toucher so I'd probably avoid cards personally.

When we went on our cruise in mid-February, when the virus was first being spoken about (that I knew of), I took my own purell hand sanitizer and also Clorox disinfecting wipes as well.

Dear Carnival Guest,

Our highest responsibilities include the health and safety of our guests and crew. We continue to work closely with public health officials, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), to monitor, screen and implement best practices to protect the health of our guests and crew as it relates to COVID-19 (coronavirus). Our monitoring, screening and operational protocols are designed to be flexible so that we can effectively adapt to changes as they occur.

We are following industry and public health guidelines regarding embarkation restrictions. Guests meeting the following criteria will be unable to sail:

  • If you have been to or traveled through China, Hong Kong, Macau, Iran, South Korea, or a location currently subject to isolation measures by government health authorities in the last 14 days prior to embarkation. This applies to municipalities in the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto that are under travel restrictions by the CDC.
  • If you have been in contact with another person suspected of having COVID-19.

If you meet any of this criteria, please advise us as soon as possible by calling 1-800-CARNIVAL so we can discuss this matter before you travel to the terminal for embarkation.

There are also certain guests that we will be subject to additional screening. Please be advised that guests who have visited or traveled through the countries below will receive medical screening including having their temperature checked prior to boarding. Guests will be required to provide travel documentation and are subject to passport verification:

  • If you have visited Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand or Vietnam in the 14 days prior to embarkation.
  • For Italy, we are asking our guests and crew to confirm they have not been to any of the municipalities in the regions of Lombardy and Veneto that are under travel restrictions by the CDC.

Some destinations on your itinerary may restrict or deny entry to ships carrying any person with symptoms of influenza and illness even if the symptoms do not meet the criteria set by world health experts including CDC and WHO – and would therefore not even be required to be evaluated or tested for the illness in the United States or most places around the world. While we will work to minimize these incidents, we do not have control over these decisions. Carnival will comply with all required guidelines that may be implemented by individual destinations that may require itinerary changes. We will make every effort to inform you of any new local policies as soon as the information is made available to us.

In addition to our usual procedures, we have implemented the following expanded protocols:

  • All guests must comply with standard pre-boarding health reporting at time of check-in.
  • Additional pre-cruise and in-terminal screenings and questionnaires will be administered, including pre-boarding medical evaluations, as needed.
  • Crew members are following these same guidelines and are subject to additional screening measures prior to boarding.
  • Enhanced on board and terminal sanitation measures with non-toxic materials are in place, in addition to our rigorous daily cleaning regimen.
  • Our onboard Medical Centers are staffed to handle a wide variety of staff and crew medical situations.
  • Any guest or crew member who exhibits symptoms of influenza or upper respiratory infection with fever are subject to isolation.

While you might see a few guests wearing masks, that is their choice, and it's important to remember that culturally, some travelers wear masks as a routine matter. If you see a crew member wearing a mask, it is directly related to a task they are performing and it is an authorized piece of safety equipment.

We assure you we are actively managing health and safety related issues on our cruises and want you to be aware of the enhanced measures we are taking.  You can also find more information on the industry’s response by visiting the CLIA or U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC ) web sites.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we aim to ensure a safe, fun and memorable cruise. We look forward to seeing you aboard.

This virus has made people uncomfortable with future travel plans.  Carnival has a business to run so I get it...they have to find a balance between their business and passengers.    Having said that they are in the vacation/leisure industry and if passengers are feeling uncomfortable traveling at the moment then they should allow passengers to rebook at a later time.  I'm not sure how leisurely it is to take a vacation when you are scared and uncomfortable.  Yes people can cancel if they want....I understand that as well....but for some this is a once in a lifetime vacation.  Losing that sort of money is hard on an individual.  Insurance is not protecting people in this case also.  People save up their hard earned money and choose to spend it on a Carnival vacation.  This is after all a VACATION.

I have a cruise booked for spring break with my children.  I have the travel insurance.  I go back/forth on how I feel about going.

In reference to your comment about Carnival having a business to run, I totally agree.  I think it is important to recognize their stance, their market and their environment (what the rest of the cruise lines are doing).  There have been comments here about comparison to what the airline industry is doing in terms of cancellation and allowing change.  While good information, it is truly apples and oranges.  I hope you make the right decision for you.

The question is really that it is not required to use a passport on a closed end cruise.  Knowing what you know and the scrutiny you (it is an example, not saying you would do this) would be subject to, you could use the non passport way for your next cruise.  I doubt they have anything that could detect this and the barn door is suddenly open.

Agree!  the cruise industry is very different from the airline industry!  People have to fly sometimes...business, emergencies, etc.  Cruising is purely leisure/vacation for passengers.

This whole situation is uncharted territory for Travel Insurance Companies, Cruise Industry, Passengers.  I do think everyone should help with the situation.  Perhaps insurance companies should cover those that are high risk or immunocompromised (for the record this doesn't apply to my family).  Perhaps Cruise companies should be more lenient in their refund/cancellation policies at the moment.  Truth is that those of us who booked a cruise WANT to go on a cruise...so its not like they will lose our business in the end.

Can you convince my 5 year old of this?  😂

Baking cookies with him was a nightmare.

He couldn't understand why I kept telling him to wash his hands again

(he touched the dog, put his hands in his mouth, etc).

Best of Luck with the5-year-old! lol!

And this is yet another reason why it should be required for all cruise passengers to carry passports with regardless of whether it’s closed-loop or open-loop.
