I have no issue with a criminal investigation being held in to the Ruby Princess fiasco.

However when this virus issue is over for the world let's hope the main criminal investigation is the one looking at the actions of the Chinese Govt who covered this up. None of these other issues and restrictions, and more importantly, deaths, would have happened without the Chinese Government.

My foggy crystal ball sees Ruby Princess arriving in Los Angelos in the next month or so.

It wouldn't look good if the Ruby left while this investigation is under way.

 

BTW, I lay the blame 100% at the feet of the NSW Health Department, specifically the 'expert group' who were advised that there were people on board with respiratory systems. Nevertheless, they judged that the ship was not as risk of having COVID-19 and authorised disembarkation without waiting for tests to be done on swabs taken from the ill passengers.

I don't think they can leave now because of the pending investigation. Plus a couple of their crew are very ill.  So the risk of them sailing now is immense. They will need to find a safe berth for them not located near a population centre.

I agree. Get the people off this ship. However, Carnival Australia should be contributing funds. I also think the cruising industry in Australia is going to take a long time to recover. It was a booming market. But its left a sour taste in the public mind. 

 

I do think there needs to be an investigation. There seems to be some missing pieces of information. So need to get to the bottom of this. Plus people died.

The timelines are confusing as is the lines of control and authority. Who had the information and who had the power to act. I think the victims, now in their hundreds, need some closure as to what the heck went wrong.

According to a report on today's BBC News , 200 members of the crew are confined on board with the virus.

The report also stated that 10% of Australia's infections, and 30% of it's deaths relate to passengers disembarked from the ship.

yes, that's correct. We have had fatalities from other cruise ships as well. Too many. And a couple of the crew in Aus Hospitals are very unwell. ICU.

The government of australia has ordered all cruise ships to leave, but now you want them to stay???

 

Ruby Princess, and the other cruise ships are outside of Australia's Territorial Sea.

 

What do you propose ... seizing a bermudian flagged ship,  in international waters?

 

Good luck with that.

 

A prudent mariner would avoid re-entering the Australian Territorial Sea, where the ship could be subject to arrest.

There is more to this story than meets the eye.  It starts before arrival.  Pleased there is going to be a full police investigation. My guess it will discover a number of bad decisions.

Princess has a business presence in California.

 

Princess was able to work with San Francisco to allow Grand to dock.

 

And, as Mr. Voljeep mentioned, upcoming cruises are from the US west coast.

Probably need to keep up. Ruby is close to shore. And its about to dock at Port Kembla. It has many ill crew members. It is the subject of a Criminal Investigation now. It cannot leave. 
 

There have been 11 deaths from this ship and a guesstimate of over 600 positive cases.

This is terrible, Pushka.  I am sorry, don't know what else to I say.  Hope and pray for all.  This virus is devastating, just read that Boris Johnson is in the hospital.

Husband and I have been wondering who may be the first lead Politician who may sadly succumb. Boris has not looked at all well. I hope he recovers now he's getting more specialised treatment and hopefully some rest. Love him or not, he needs to be there for UK. 
 

It's been over 14 days now since Ruby arrived into Sydney. That should be the end of the first contacts and we can only hope that those passengers isolated themselves for 14 days or Australia will see community spread from them.
