I use an expensive hard plastic visor which totalling covers my face, ears, forehead and chin but some of the flimsy visors look useless. Lots of signs in the shops, bars and restaurants that we have been visiting, stipulating that masks must be worn, and that visors are NOT acceptable. Understandable really, as they are of no use whatsoever.

Some scientists said the masks were better because they contain breathe however others argued that they become damp quickly so become useless and are more apt to be dirty, contaminated and cause secondary skin and chest infections. Others argued that the full plastic visors were better because they are so much cleaner and protect the eyes where the virus can also apparently be contracted. Others argued that while they protect the wearer to some extent they don’t protect others as breathe goes out round them. So to be really safe you probably need both on.

Yes, wearing a mask protects others, but wearing a visor does nothing to inhibit transmission of the virus.
Harry Peterson Posted October 1, 2020 #6479 Share Posted October 1, 2020 Masks may provide better protection for the wearer (and everyone in fact) than first thought. Not yet peer reviewed, but an interesting hypothesis from a reputable US source. Unlike the disreputable US source that spouts garbage. As SARS-CoV-2 continues its global spread, it’s possible that one of the pillars of Covid-19 pandemic control — universal facial masking — might help reduce the severity of disease and ensure that a greater proportion of new infections are asymptomatic. If this hypothesis is borne out, universal masking could become a form of “variolation” that would generate immunity and thereby slow the spread of the virus in the United States and elsewhere, as we await a vaccine. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2026913

There will only be my hubbie & me in the car do we should have loads of space but we seem to be taking everything but the kitchen sink for my daughter and the baby as her car is tiny. I’m terrible for not being able to pack light. I love the thought of getting organised and starting the packing but it all goes pear shaped once I start! Sent from my iPhone using Forums I hope you have a fantastic week's holiday. Graham.

John thought it was illegal to socialise outside but it is only an advisory when you Google the government covid19 website. Graham.

Mine covers a few inches above my head and below my chin and totally covers my ears and is a hard plastic not a thin flexible film. I have not seen any signs prohibiting visors anywhere. I do carry a medical reusable mask and wear this as well as the visor when visiting a medical facility. Graham.

Having said that, I have seen the signs not allowing visors, and, not that it will concern you at the moment, most airlines insist on masks, not visors.

Lovely place.

They are usually around £150 per night bed and breakfast but we normally get room service and sit looking out the curved window for hours. No Graham that's not what I thought whilst it is not illegal to socialise outside and you would not be fined, it is nevertheless strongly recommended that you avoid it, and law abiding and conscientious citizens should be avoiding this, except in very socially distanced exercise groups. Which is the recommendation on the website. Edited October 1, 2020 by terrierjohn

Actually I only checked the gov website after you mentioned to be careful last night and it is very confusing but unfair that people might not meet a loved family member outside because of it. A contact told me they are inundated with mental health enquiries. Graham.

It's the same for us Graham, we had only been out of lockdown for 3 weeks when Kirklees was put in special measures, then our area was released, only to be back under tight control in less than 3 weeks this time. But this is the situation we are in until there is either a vaccine or we learn to live with covid without it getting out of control. Unfortunately the latter seems very unlikely as long as people are unwilling to follow sensible recommendations to avoid the spread of the virus. And of course the vulnerable are always the first to suffer.

I agree,we have personally adhered strictly to all the guidelines but If only Boris had reprimanded Cummings people's attitudes would have been more tolerant of all the lockdown implications.
