Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80226 Share Posted December 10, 2022 We arrived at the lagoon pool at 10am. Unbeknownst to us, the pool is closed til midday one day a week. Decided to go for a wander but cut it short and grabbed brunch instead as it was too hot for walking. Christmas tree was up
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80227 Share Posted December 10, 2022 Then the lagoon pool was open and it was bliss in the heat. I spent 2hrs in the water. Whilst DD was in and out. Helipad near by was busy all day doing sightseeing flights

Here's the finished project. I'm not sure I will want to take it down when Christmas is over. That’s beautiful. Very well done. 4 hours ago, akcruz said: Had a fun evening with some friends last night making faux sea glass Christmas trees. Not as good as the shop but not bad and something different than I have seen other places. That’s pretty. I haven’t seen one made out of glass. 6 hours ago, Ocean Boy said: Plenty of opportunity lately to go dancing in the minefields...🙂 I haven’t been on here much lately. I must be missing some interesting stuff. 😄 3
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80229 Share Posted December 10, 2022 Headed back to the ship to get out of the sun. Left DD by the pool deck, whilst I headed out on a “Cairns in style” ship tour - in a stretch Hummer. A lively group of 12 of us. Driver was great and the open bar was enjoyed. First stop - Cascades in Cairns for a refreshing dip Second stop was Palm Cove, an hour out of Cairns.
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80230 Share Posted December 10, 2022 No swimming today though, as a crocodile had been spotted on the beach the day before and none of us had stinger suits.

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80234 Share Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) 3rd and final port was Port Douglas. Another beautiful day with water so calm and temps again 35C. A tender port. We did a ship tour with Quicksilver Cruises. Spent the day snorkeling on the reef from a platform located at Agincourt Reef. Stinger suits a must, as always this time of year. After a beautiful day, a lovely sunset. Edited December 10, 2022 by aussielozzie18
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80235 Share Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) On our final sea day, we slowly cruised past Willis Island. The only inhabited island in the Coral Sea. A team of 4-6 live here, releasing a weather balloon at 9.30am and 9.30pm every day in conjunction with scientists in other countries & then sharing data. We had the Reef Pilot on board and he communicated with one of the scientists on the island. He told us a little about life on the island, then we all watched as the 9.3Oam weather balloon was released. Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 10, 2022 #80236 Share Posted December 10, 2022 In the morning at breakfast, the sky above the ship was filled with birds. Never seen that many birds before when cruising. Turns out they all roost on Willis Island. The waters around the island are also home to endangered turtles and obviously other sea life. Another lovely sunset

We were also watching our grandkids for the last 4 days... First time their parents "took a break" from "parenting" and flew to Rome. Both have never been there. We stayed at their home, and it was not easy. Since the eldest suffers from a serious allergy to nuts, we were under strict orders not to dine out with them. So their grandpa made with them pizza on pita bread, and they enjoyed it very much. Another day he improvised hamburgers on a toaster... When we told our son, he asked: "what next? pizza in a 'finjan' "? We had a mini-crisis when the eldest broke down in tears when he saw his mom on video, missing her dearly. In hindsight, all the parties decided that it should have been better if the parents started with a 2 nights "disappearance" and not straight on with 5 nights, so that the kids will gradually adapt.... Besides this episode, they enjoyed their grandpa soft and comfy tummy 😉 And, today, were very happy to get their parents back, with some gifts too 😁

High speed boat ride to snorkeling location. Too busy snorkeling to take photos. After snorkeling pulled into beach for lunch & swim off the beach. Beautiful. Beautiful pictures. We were in Airlie Beach in April 2017. We were there about 10 days after cyclone Debbie had hit. Lots of damage.

Luckynana Posted December 11, 2022 #80248 Share Posted December 11, 2022 My granddaughter has to do an ancestry paper with the dates of her Great Grandparents. I told her I could go back pretty far with some of my ancestors, but it was not needed. After getting off of the phone with her, I looked at my dad's side of the family first...I remember mentioning quite a long time ago on this thread that I am related to the Hatfield's. My dad's Mom was a Hatfield. I can go back to my GGG Grandfather, Ale Alexander Hatfield, who was born in 1778 in Washington County, Va. My mom's family was (and some still there) from Amorbach, Miltenberg, Bavaria, Germany. My Grandfather and his siblings were born on Staten Island, I was 3rd generation Staten Islander, and 3 of my grandchildren are 5th generation Staten Islanders.
helen haywood Posted December 11, 2022 #80249 Share Posted December 11, 2022 We just cooked our last dinner in this house. 😢 Will eat out tomorrow night so we don’t have to do dishes. Then Monday all our kitchen appliances etc will be packed up. We can bring home takeout as we have dishes we’re not taking…but an end of an era. Hopefully a happy new beginning.

Thank you. Not sure why I have so much trouble remembering that. And correct, it was on the Bella thread that it was stated that he could not read Floataway or Roll call threads, only the main board that is open to all - even unregistered users - to browse. Nice to know he still keeps tabs on his old friends here, even if he longer has a "voice". M8, thank you again for your sincere thoughts from beyond. 🙂 8
