dpostman Posted June 14, 2023 #95778 Share Posted June 14, 2023 @A&L_Ont Andrew, I am happy for all of you, to find out this morning that your strategy worked out. Great planning on your part for seizing this opportunity of a lifetime. Owen (And Lisa and yourself) will have lived an experience that very few will ever get a chance. I, on the other hand, got up and went to bed it was still 0-0 😉 . Looking forward to your pics and write-ups of your experience . Safe travels back home. dp

As chaotic as it will be this weekend, once everyone settles down and gets into (hopefully) a routine, cherish this unexpected time with your granddaughters. Rare h20skibum Posted June 14, 2023 #95783 Share Posted June 14, 2023 My bottle of Kraken looks pretty sad compared to those. For our air tag users here, do you remove the batteries when not in use? Got some before our trip to CA, and they worked great.

About a week ago, DW was in the kitchen preparing dinner, when I heard a boom. Ran into the kitchen. and she was laying on the floor unconscious, and there was what looked like ice all around. as I got closer, that isn't ice, it is glass. her head had hit the front of the range and the tempered glass on the oven door exploded, glass everywhere. I was calling 911 just she started to wake up. Best guess was that her BP had been a bit low, which our PCP did not think was bad. They took her to the ER, since she had a cut on the back of her head. They wanted to keep her over night, she did not want to stay, so she came home. She is OK now. I guess we needed a new range. You probably don't remember, but a couple of years ago, our dishwasher started leaking. She wanted a white dishwasher, so that is what we ordered. That was around Thanksgiving. Come Easter it had still not been able to get one, so in frustration, she said we get whatever. they had a stainless steel in stock, so that is what we got. Here we go again, Not this time. What do you have in stock. Took a picture and showed DW. She said looks good. Mostly black with stainless steel trim. Bought it on Friday, it will delivered om Monday, and it was. WE have heard a lot of people rave about an air fryer. That got her interest. Now we have one. . Wow! What a scary thing to happen. Glad she is doing better now. As a side note - I love my Air Fryer. I use it almost every day.
TravelGirlinDallas Posted June 14, 2023 #95785 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Sorry I've been scarce lately. I've been so busy and going through some things. I turned 50 at the end of May. 😭 Then a couple of weeks later, Andrew turned 13. He was just a tiny baby yesterday. So while trying to plan Andrew's birthday party(ies) and keep things somewhat normal at home, I'm still working through this merger at work, having to travel out of town multiple times for training, dealing with both the workload as well as the emotional stuff of everything changing and lots of people/friends leaving or being relocated. Our Allure cruise next month can't come soon enough, because I really need to get away for a minute. Brian and Andrew are driving to Omaha tomorrow (9-10 hours) to see TCU play in the College World Series on Friday. This is a bucket list experience for Brian and it's so awesome that he gets to take this trip with his son on Father's Day weekend. I am so happy they get to do this together and that Andrew is old enough for it to be a real "dudes' trip". Andrew just got home from camp last night, and his reaction when Brian told him they were going was priceless. 23
TravelGirlinDallas Posted June 14, 2023 #95786 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Speaking of stoves, first, so glad @mo&fran's wife is OK! We just had our gas line extended to the kitchen so we can replace our very old electric stove with gas while you can still buy them. Our house had gas for every appliance EXCEPT the stove. Who would do that?? Anyway, a plumber had to run the line from the attic down the exterior of the house and then back under the cabinet where the cooktop goes on top. $$$$$$$. Now to buy the stove. Since our setup has a downdraft fan instead of a vent hood, and the footprint is only 30", we are limited to only about 3 choices. We need to order it ASAP.

ValerieJo Posted June 14, 2023 #95788 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Just an FYI for those traveling on Southwest Airlines anytime soon - They are having a pretty good sale going on right now. I was able to cancel and rebook my flight in October. They put 13,000 miles back on my account. 3
TravelGirlinDallas Posted June 14, 2023 #95789 Share Posted June 14, 2023 And speaking of Vegas, when I worked at SWA, my friends and I went there often since back then it was easy to hop on a plane flying standby and there was no need to rent a car. Those were the days when the slots dispensed actual coins that we carried around in large plastic cups provided by the casinos. The paper receipts just aren't the same. One of my friends called Barbary Coast the "Buttery Toast", so that's what I always think of. Of course most of those old places are gone now. I didn't realize Monte Carlo was now something else until Andrew's posts. Brian and I renewed our vows in Vegas for our 10th anniversary in 2016 at the chapel in Excalibur. That was really fun. He had never been before.
helen haywood Posted June 14, 2023 #95790 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Boy did we have an experience yesterday!! Having our pre-dinner drink around 6:30, looking out at the pond…clear sky, no rain, when all of a sudden a streak of lightning makes a direct hit on a light pole outside our subdivision. BOOM! All the power goes out. DH calls FPL and reports it and we’re told it will be back on by 10 pm. Hmm. When we first moved here I bought some mini LED lanterns in case this ever happened. DH, somewhat smugly, informed me that the power lines here are buried and thus outages weren’t a problem. Well, they may be buried here…but a block away outside the subdivision, they’re on regular vulnerable poles. I dug the never before used lanterns out of a closet. We decided to go out to dinner just to kill time. Drove to one of our favorite restaurants just in time…because only then did torrential rains hit. The lights flickered several times at the restaurant. 🙀 But we had delicious food and drink. 🍷 When we got home FPL had changed their estimate of power returned to status unknown. Great. We played cards by lantern light and eventually went to bed and read our Kindles. Power was finally restored around 1 am. Sure glad I’d bought those lanterns!!

Mortgage biz has been extremely slow for many reasons. Our office did some layoffs this past winter and is doing more this month so he asked his Boss if he could just close out the last home loan for a buyer in Kentucky then retire. That home sale happened Monday. Next, find health insurance to carry over until he is eligible for Medicare. The insurance at my work is very expensive for spouses so we will see what he finds online. Any suggestions are welcome. He needs good coverages since he is transplant person and all those meds are expensive. 6

One of the good things to come out of modern technology. One of the few ,in my opinion.Tomorrow I will be reading a poem that I wrote that was published. The reading will be for the possibility of participating in a zoom entertainment show Monday night that can be viewed all over the USA .While my chances of making it to the show are minimal I was encouraged by the people who read my poem last week. ”What a lovely way to get to know you.Such a powerful poem.Stunning images, mysterious, and not a word wasted.Beautiful”. All of the entrants are published poets who like me have Parkinson’s.

Rare Lionesss Posted June 14, 2023 #95798 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Hello my friends. I have done a reality check and have come to the conclusion that I will never catch up and “ read all about it on this thread”. Our Allure cruise was a great getaway. I enjoyed doing the live thread, and was actually a behaved poster. Although a few participants did not like my jesting. Anyway. I know people on this thread are normal, kind and understanding. I was a creeper on another social media site and the majority are fun people. But there are a few that would be removed from CC. I am thankful for what we share here. I have planned to post live from Alaska in August , but reconsidering. We shall see. Anyway. I was pretty lucky at the casino. And the spouse was happy I came home with winnings. I won just under $14,000 on 5 jackpots. My name was flagged and I did have to meet with customs. I filled out the USGOV form as well as gambled my winnings down to under $10,000. The concierge escorted me to customs as to not miss our NASA TOUR. When we got there I was moved to front of line. Mr Customs man asked me why I was there. I told him how much I won and then told I lost Enough to bring my total $$ under $10,000 back in the states. I showed him my winning statements as well as my account of buying $$ out of machine to lose enough to bring me to the safe limit. Mr customs goes. You are prepared. I go this is the second time I have been through this. He goes. Well this is a first for me. what did they do to you last time. I go let me pass no report because I am bringing back less than reportable amount. He goes. Well sounds good to me. Have a good day. Nothing is required. Now I did not tell him last time I had to fill out report. But not going there. Back to babysitting. Back home later today. Pray for my safe travels. It is a PIA to travel from I 270 to I 71. Traffic is always congested there. Be safe. 22
