What happens if ships go out, and people get sick?

I just said to my husband no more than five minutes ago..........Cruise lines should require a certificate of vaccination to Covid-19 to board the ship. No certificate, you do not cruise. Period. This coming from someone who has never had a flu shot and who has never had the flu. Sorry, I have not contributed to flu herd immunity. I will, however, have a C-19 vaccination as soon as it is available to the public.

Excellent post .If CC gave an award for best posts yours would be at the top of the list.

No doubt, though we'd see lots a complaint reviews on these boards, like "Royal ruined my cruise by making me wear a mask in the casino"  .

GREAT! Smokeless casinos.

Wearing a mask in the casino might help filter out some of the cigarette smoke.

The way I see it, wearing a required mask will prevent people from smoking. I really want to see smoking prohibited inside everywhere on every cruise ship. Who wants people purposefully blowing cigarette smoke along with lots and lots of droplets out of their mouths all over everyone?

If that's the policy ships won't be sailing this year.  Maybe not next year, or maybe never.

I'm curious, with all the facts and figures out there for COVID has anyone seen ANYTHING about cases and deaths of the yearly flu? Are they lumping them in with COVID cases?

No, all deaths have magically disappeared...........

OR thisThe Hong Kong flu (also known as 1968 flu pandemic[1]) was a flu pandemic whose outbreak in 1968 and 1969 killed an estimated one to four[2] million people

Lots of states started opening a few weeks ago and social distancing and wearing masks IS being disregarded by large numbers of people, so your feelings are well justified.  And any social distancing or other mitigation measures on cruise ships will work about as well, not because the cruise lines do not have good intentions but because so many cruisers will not comply.

How about the cruise line let passengers know they will be put off at the next port if they do not comply with all rules put forth by the cruise line. There you go......100% compliance guaranteed unless you want to find your own way back home.

They could have got virus on the plane ride down or the plane ride back. Unless they are sick on the cruise there is no way to trace it to the cruise. My son was on a Cruise in February and a few days after his return he was sick for 2 weeks. How does he know if he got sick on the plane or the cruise.

Is this a situation where contact tracing would be able to identify who transmitted the virus? If no one on his flight had the virus than chances are he contacted the virus on the cruise ship. What makes it nearly impossible to really trace, is the fact that anyone in the airport could have transmitted the virus. I honestly don't know how contact tracing can get an accurate answer.

Tourism is about to start again and crusing is part of it. Even that COVID-19 is still around also the cruise industry will need to start up again even in this environment. Hence, as part of all the new safety protocols that are currently being developed specific scenarios need to be figured out how to handle the situation on baord as soon as a passenger is suspected / was tested positive with COIVD-19 without having the whole ship going on isolation / getting into a situation that the ship is not allowed to dock at any port.

Until covid 19 is eliminated, plan on being confined to the ship for at least 14 days if some one becomes sick. But think about this before  we all cruise again. There are many asymptomatic carriers of the virus that could infect many people with this deadly disease. You may find yourself being put off the ship in a foreign port, then what?  How in the world will guests be able to stay safe in such confined spaces? Even with less passengers it would take only one person to infect many others.

Well contact tracing on the ship will be easy, everyone has pretty much been near everyone else, and no way to know otherwise.  So back to your rooms everyone, and stay there until we find a place to dock.  As long as the fear of the virus continues in society, I don't know how they come up with any plan to deal with a covid infection on a ship.

Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa opened tonight... Masks are required for guests and employees.

Do they not allow drinking?  I don't gamble much, but when I do I drink.

I should have clarified my comment to include, "when there is a vaccine available to the public"...........

WOW!!! I am totally flummoxed by the OP's thread title. Even more, it's quite amusing to see so many responses that try to be somewhat sensible. Reading this thread, I tried my best to find a sliver of fluency. I could not. Lot's of incoherent twaddle, however. Kind of like the way this pandemic is being handled by some so-called powers-that-be.

What happens if a ship sails and people get sick?. Easy answer, a ship sails and people get sick. What happened 25 years ago? What will happen 25 years from now? You get the point. Sorry, I find no relevance to this thread nor any of it's posts. I'm really glad the cruise industry is not reliant on you good folks for it's solutions.

I “think “ OP was referring to COVID19 sick people.

What happened 25 years ago was, the ship would continue as normal and people would return home. With covid-19, the ship may not be allowed to dock. People may not be allowed to leave the ship. Have you not heard of this already happening?

I think that the chances of catching Covid-19 are being overblown if the precautions are taken. I work for a supermarket chain that has thousands of workers across 7 states, and we deal with customers as close a 1 foot away sometimes, and they aren't always wearing masks. Out of the thousands of workers, there have only been 19 cases, and thankfully no deaths. If I'm flamed for this, so be it, but these are facts.

Bleed Green 🙂

Imagine if the "Close Talker" episode were made today.

I recently watched episode where the restaurant owner Poppy used the bathroom and didn't wash his hands . He proceeded to knead dough for a pizza.
