No Problems here, other than not being able to go on vacation or travel. At least we live in a resort town on the lake, and have a boat. Although the water has been so high this spring and summer we had to buy a blow up kayak to get out to our boat dock.

Yes  some days wish we still had our sailboat  at least we could get out of the house  for  a bit

It has been + 30 C for 9 days straight  which does not  help my mood  😁

Stay well

It's 96F outside right now. It's supposed to be similar for the next 2 weeks. Oh joy, I think this is why I went to Norway this time of year.

To stay on topic, that was pre-covid, when we could still go on cruises.

What is your tolerance level - when are you willing to resume cruising?

Vaccine, drug therapy, much fewer cases?

All of the above. I'd love to see a vaccine, then I'd be good to go. Unlike some here I personally don't want to get it just to have immunity. There might be some bad side effects that would ruin my vacation.

And we know how that turned out LOL

It felt like Copenhagen  the past week here 😉

Enjoy

At least it is warm for most of you. We feel summer is self isolating on the west coast.  Noticeably less marine traffic and the few vessels that try to come up the B.C. Coast are escorted to the border. It has been good for the whales and other marine life.  Thank goodness we live on an island so we can get outside in our boat. Not as much fun as cruising though.

I hope this is on topic. It's for all you COVID affected/deprived grandparents out there who might still be in Phase 1 like me. Here are some games for you and your little ones to enjoy on Zoom or Facetime. We play this stuff for hours and added benefit of giving a break to their folks.

Card games- war, gin rummy, Old Maid, Crazy 8's, black jack, 5 card draw. Some of it weird playing with two different decks, but they amuse my 4, 5 and 6 year. We use chips or pennies too.

Games- Battleship! The old non-electronic version has two separate screens so it's perfect for you to keep a screen, five ships and pegs, and send one set and the rules to your competitor. One of our favs.

Bingo. Get the kind with the closing windows. Send the whole game with spinning wheel to the young ones and order some extra cards for yourself on Amazon.

Candyland, and Chutes and Ladders for the 3 and 4 year olds. They have to move your pieces around.

Boggle- get two sets. Our favorite.

Yahtzee.

Twister- two sets.

Jacks.

Mad-libs

Pen and paper games- 20 questions, tic-tac-toe, hangman, made up games like "draw 5 animals in one minute" etc.

5 minutes to scavenge the house for everything that's blue or red or whatever. Arts and crafts projects like cutting up paper and pretending we're ancient Romans making mosaics.

Maybe this is off topic but bonding with your environmentally and socially deprived kids is one positive outcome of COVID-19.

If you have more ideas please share.

Nancy

Thanks for posting these ideas, Nancy.

Some days Pessimist Pam worries that our 2-1/2- and 1-1/4-year-old grandchildren will be ready for these games by the time we get to hug them again!  Pollyanna Pam simply is so very very grateful for FaceTime.  (The older one is starting to read to us or enjoy our reading to her.)

I guess it is too early to consider when it will be safe to cruise again. Has Oceania done anything with air quality on board? Are any cruise lines suggesting age restrictions?  This was suggested early on by some cruise lines.

OK - you want some COVID stories? I have a few:

A Texas hospital says a patient who was a healthy young man died from coronavirus after attending a “COVID” party.

The unidentified 30-year-old man died at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, according to the hospital’s top doctor, Jane Appleby.

“This is a party held by somebody diagnosed with the COVID virus, and the thought is people get together to see if the virus is real and if anyone gets infected,” Appleby said, NBC 4 San Antonio reported Friday.

“Just before the person died they looked at the nurse and they said, ‘I think I made a mistake. I thought it was a hoax but it's not,” she said, according to the station.

Appleby said the hospital is treating other COVID-19 patients in their 20s and 30s who are “severely ill,” the station reported.

Where do you think this young man got the idea that COVID is a hoax? Take a wild guess.

There are other stories like this one (in the South, needless to say):

https://www.foxnews.com/us/tuscaloosa-covid-parties

Then we are wondering why we are where we are with this virus.

PS Dr Deadzone - are you reading this about the young people?

Why are they "environmentally" deprived? My grands are out riding their bikes constantly, going to parks, hidden beaches, you name it.

Why can't they move their own pieces around?

The bars around Vegas and Reno (more than just the two counties) were shut down by the governor's order at midnight last night. Oh, what screaming is going on. I like to tell a little story of a couple of days ago of seeing a map of the US. Nevada was one of the six or so states with the greatest increase in cases since the previous week. Over 30% increase. That shuts 'em up occasionally.

I thought I'd read here that O's air comes from the outside.  ?

In the dining room and staterooms. (I rarely have a veranda.)

I just found this - and have seen other media stories about it:

"Cruise ships hit by coronavirus outbreaks have quickly found themselves with no ports for thousands of passengers as countries on four continents have quarantined vessels or kept them at sea for days.

Keeping all the passengers on board instead of letting them disembark on land is a strategy that can backfire, however, according to experts, because the ventilation systems and close quarters of cruise ships make them ideal places for illness to jump from one person to the next.

“They’re not designed as quarantine facilities, to put it mildly,” said Don Milton, an epidemiologist with the University of Maryland."

No. For the cabins. Hopefully someone will give some info. Plus I do know that it's a no-no to keep your veranda door open.

It will be interesting to either get the peek, or see if O is playing the game.. Officially, Oceania has cancelled all cruises through 9/30. That means the upper suites can already be making dinner reservations for those early October cruises. PHers will be able to do so in the coming weeks.

Oceania, expecting to cancel the cruises, could just allow them to book Specialties as in the past, so no one knows what future plans are. Or, they could give everyone a peep of the future. Will sharing be allowed, or will everything be two tops dining alone? Will there be a reservation system for the GDR and Terrace Cafe?

At some point, the changes will leak out. Wish more people participated here on CC so to get the word! Once they really decide to cruise, what changes will appear with the dining reservation system?

To ease crowding at dinner in the restaurants, some cruise lines have said they will mandate a certain number of room service/en-suite dining evenings. Will Oceania do likewise? Will the cruisers have to pre-declare those evenings before boarding and have them in their reservation file?

Once Oceania posts the new reservation system, we will then know if cruises are planned to sail, or not!

PKCheng75 (?) gave an EXCELLENT description of the ventilation systems on the ships.

He is one of my heroes on CC because he is so knowledgeable and unbiased- "only the facts, ma'am".

What I remember is that the air in cabins does not circulate between cabins - each cabin is a self contained unit that takes outside air.

That is not the case for public spaces.

I am sure someone can find that post.

Thanks Lyn - I can always rely on your memory - mine is failing 🙂

Maybe I was thinking of P F Chang - it will be one of the first place I'll go when this is over 😀

I love most of their stuff but especially the 5 spice ribs and Mongolian beef.

New brochure came yesterday. Here are two points:

1. Extensive Pre-Embarkment Health Screening.

2. Socially Responsible Check-In

we've designed an enhanced, staggered embarkment and check in process for proper social distancing....

It’ll be nice to know how those two will work, especially #2. We purposely never get to the ship before 3:00 anymore to avoid the zoo. Oceania currently has an embarkment procedure that many just ignore. People start showing up at the “ terminal “ which may be a tent starting at 9:00 waiting to get on!

We showed up at noon once, on time, to find about 200 people jammed into a small tent waiting to get on. Most weren’t supposed to be there yet. How will Oceania manage those that ignore the new policy? I read we’re one of the lines was going to give embarkment times to coincide with when their cabin was expected to be ready. Don’t show up and expect boarding before then ! They don’t want hundreds to thousands sitting together in common areas waiting for their cabin access. That would be 3:00 for some of the lower cabins.

They have to do something to manage the Terrace Animal Park on Embarkment Day! Missing that alone makes lunch ashore, before boarding, all the more enjoyable!

It will be interesting to see the actual new policies put in place, when they actually plan to sail.
