Will Florida cruises start back up in October?

My next cruise is February 2021.  Hopefully there is a vaccine by then.

I'm torn: If my next cruise is cancelled, should I L&S or get a refund? (Thinking out loud)

I'd get a refund. If they haven't resumed by February they may not resume at all.

Right now. I say refund.  By november when your final payment may be due we may have different choices.  Lots of moving pieces.....

If the results of phase 3 vaccine testing (for any of the 3 or 4 presently or about to begin) are as positive as phase 1 and 2 testing, then by October there may be more light at the end of the tunnel.

Even if there is light at the end of the tunnel, (thinking out loud, they say phase 3 results are go for flight, then a widespread viable vaccine in Dec or January) don’t you think the cruise lines will need a few months for people to receive the vaccine?  So that would mean commence in March or April.  For sentimental reasons, let’s say March 14, 2021.......or whatever the one year anniversary date of the no sail date.

The Cruise lines are going to need at least a month or  two to line up staff.

So I see October as an important month, just not sailing, barring some other breakthrough.

PS....I am not a scientist, but have read of 3 or 4 large companies either in or ready for phase 3 testing.  I understand the testing is widespread, up to 30,000 people.  Results should be published Sept at earliest.

March 14, 2021........?

Bahamas just announced they are closing their borders for international commercial flights and commercial vessels with passengers, except for commercial flights from Canada, UK and EU. BahamaAir will also stop flights to the US.

A more interesting question is how many posts will this thread have before it gets locked??😜😜.

Once the new Florida case counts start being posted on a daily basis, that'll start the fireworks.

I give it 5 days.  😀     3 days if protests are brought up. 😇

This is from Bahamas Prime Minister Office. He had a press conference today regarding the closure.

Does that mean no cruises for Bahama Paradise Cruise lines?

We sadly had our April cruise cancelled. After this last extension of cruise cancellations to October we went ahead and cancelled our last four 2020 cruises. 😢

When we were on the phone with RCCL husband made the comment to the rep that we just don’t think RCCL will be cruising this year. Reps response was “you have very good intuition”.

We are holding out hope that our April 2021 cruise is a go but have serious doubts. We also have an October 2021 booked in the Royal Suite and are remaining optimistic about this one.

They're cutting US off. You can still go. 😀

We could, but we must quarantine for 2 weeks when we return so that’s a no.  If I have to quarantine it will because we went away in the dead of winter, and even then I will have to think about it.

Yes you can still go by private craft.

Sailing yacht and private plane. High rollers who won’t hang out with the masses once they arrive.

I would say no they can’t. If they are trying to keep social distancing I don’t see them wanting them sailing there.  Even if CDC gave permission, the island can still deny them or turn them away.  We have seen it happen with Noro, and this is more serious than that.

Next will come the inevitable "But there are plenty of ICU beds!", as if that were the only thing that matters.

They all matter. Actually ICU available beds increased over last few days. 15,000+ Hospital beds available and 1,200+ ICU beds available. There is no cure. Even if you were locked down, the virus will not go away. It will still be there when you decide to come out.

Yep.  Some seem to think we need to hide from it for a long time  Not a good plan.

But the state and local leaders think they have it figured out, masks forever.

I'm about to go on my bike ride on a remote rural trail this morning, there will be idiots riding alone out there in the woods wearing masks.

New York - 412k reported positive cases w/ 32,187 tragic deaths

Florida - 350k reported positive cases w/ 4,981 tragic deaths

Death stats lag a few weeks, but based on this data Florida (media's fav COVID fear porn state) won't sniff what happened in NY.

Possible scenario's -

1.) avg age of infection is younger (0-55) healthy people who have better chances of dying in a car accident than from COVID

2.) virus weakening?

3.) physicians are better at treating patients

Within the next 10-17 days we will have better data on Florida's peak and death rate.

Back to the original topic - there is 0% chance of cruising from Florida in October - not until there is a vaccine
