I am not all that optimistic for my April cruise.

The stock market vix, fear gauge is up. Over europe numbers going higher among other fears. To the poster who said this could have been resolved in 2 months by staying home .. do we lock our borders forever?

Not sure what they mean when they say europe restrictions tighter, even though no one is completely locked down. Fears here of more restrictions. Bye bye stock market, every stock in down now in the red.

The State Department apparently reinforced the CDC's statement against cruising.  I believe this is what is sinking Royal stock today.  While the market is down about 3% RCL stock is down 10%.  Maybe it's a good time to either buy some more stock or dump it. It's at $56.00 now.

You are right to be concerned. Without a vaccine mass market cruising is not viable. Fauci and other bureaucrats seem to think that general vaccine availability is at least 8 - 10  months away.

We also have a cruise scheduled for May that I doubt will happen.  Normally we would have already booked our flights by now since we use miles but we are holding off for now.  If L&S was an option, I likely would have moved this already.

We are in a community that has now taken a step back in opening since we have been "red" for more than three weeks.  Community is still having trick or treating on Saturday which I think is crazy.  Our light will be off but I bought candy weeks ago for my three little neighbors.  They have been told they can come to the backdoor anytime on Saturday.

While the cruise industry awaited a decision on the No-Sail-Order to be issued, the CDC now recommends that travelers defer all cruise travel worldwide.

The decision from the CDC to issue this advice is surprising, to say the least. It will undoubtedly shock the cruise industry, which has been making positive noises in the last weeks about sailing to take place this year.

That's nothing new, just a CYA before cruising begins 😎

Someone, elsewhere, pointed out to me that this article was originally posted on March 17 and was only updated to add the extension dates.

People seem to never get to the bottom of an article.

Had a good laugh when a poster said they were never going to the MDR and would only eat in the buffet or have room service.

That sounds like a really fun cruise.  They were also concerned about getting on and off this ship.  Probably will not go near a pool, casino or shops.  And walking down a hall or getting in an elevator might be bad too.

Wow!

Pfizer is ready to ship and our county health department just spent 50K for a big temp controlled storage.  Looking like first responders should have vaccine this year.

PS DW and I will wait till a vaccine.  Don't want to spent a cruise in our cabin.

You really think so? I just cancelled January as there would not be enough time to get feedback from people on the cruise experience. I don't know why people would want to risk Christmas, and their money, on a questionable experience that may not even happen.

Personally, with case numbers climbing I don't see much hope of first we quarter 2021 cruises happening.

Hi Ocean Boy. Here's where I think we are. In the past, there have been varying groups of cruisers/potential cruisers in the world.

1. People who will never cruise and don't want to.

2. People who want to try cruising, or who did try cruising, but it's a one and done for them for whatever reason.

3. People who want to cruise or did cruise once already, who might cruise more than once in certain circumstances.

4. People who like cruising and consider it as a regular / recurring vacation choice among other travel options.

5. Die hards who prefer cruising over other types of travel and do so as often as possible, from annually to many x per year.

Current situation we still have varying groups, imho. I may be way off.

1. People who never wanted to cruise and certainly won't ever change their minds about that now.

2. People who wanted to cruise or did so, whether occasionally or regularly, but won't do so in the future.

3. People who didn't want to cruise, or didn't want to go on a repeat cruise, who may be now be attracted by the low occupancy and new precautions, may see cruising as more attractive in the future than in the past. I think this is a relatively small group but impossible to really gauge.

4. People who like cruising, have done so in the past, whether occasionally or regularly, and cannot wait to do so, regardless of risk, restrictions, cost, or other concerns. This is the pent up demand group. I don't think it is a massively huge group, but I think it's big enough to include people who would try to sail over Christmas if it is in any way possible.

5. Die hards who want to go back to cruising but won't do so until certain criteria are met, whatever they may be.

When we all debate the future of cruising we need to remember that the pre-Covid industry  was approaching 30 million passengers per year. You could still have 15 million people planning to cruise and that's a devastating drop in customer base. My groups, therefore, each represent potentially MILLIONS of people.  I just think when you have huge numbers like this, there are plenty of folks in each group who would make every possible decision along the spectrum, even if the others think it's crazy.

The CDC also doesn't want anyone to go to Mexico:

But US Airlines will fly you there, and US based hotel chains will rent you a hotel room.

As a matter of fact the CDC website shows level 4 warnings for quite a few Caribbean islands now.
Odd, since the WHO website doesn't show a significant jump in cases or deaths in the 2 islands we just recently visited.

Doesn't make sense unless the WHO data is not up to date.
I was just curious since it's in my nature is to question authority, do my own research and not follow blindly.

I am a Group 5 as well. Looking at 2022 right now.  All ships, all lines on the table.

Decided to take a shot at August 2021 after all on the new Mardi Gras.  Vaccines are looking good; DH had a big year in 2020 - turned 40, earned a college degree, 15 year wedding anniversary - and no travel to celebrate. He loves cruises, likes Carnival slightly better than RC, but liked Oasis of the Seas better than any other ship. So when I found a decent deal on a "premium inside" (same space and layout as balcony cabin, but without the $$$ balcony), and a really attractive deal on Frontier (still very reasonable after paying for several a la carte upgrades) and the last week before the school year starts back up. . . I had to do it. I am feeling confident the world will be, if not back to normal, well into whatever new normal is by this time.
