Under the type of registry I am talking about everyone in a state would sign up to one registry.  The would provide the necessary contact information, medical data, age, profession, location, etc. All of the information to determine where one fits into the priority.  That data would be processed. The list would be put in priority sequence, broken down by locations.  The people on the list would be notified when they position on the list has been reached, the appointment and location assigned (this may involved the person having some options for scheduling.  That information would also be sent to the location.  The number of appointments at a locationwould determine the amount of product sent out.  Under such a system a central location would have the complete list of people in the registry, the complete appointment schedule, the information needed to schedule shipments without product sitting in a location.  One would easily know exactly how many remain in each category by location. One would know exactly where they set in the queue so to speak.

 

Have done this during a product release when the number of patients needing the product exceeded the manufacturing capability.  Only the registry was international, not statewide. Easy enough to do such a system.  Could have been easily done while waiting for the vaccines to be approved.

This is how it is being done in Texas.  Texas distributes their allotments to the counties and the counties establish hubs.  Some hub operate independently of the county, some are operated by the county.  Any Texas resident can register with any and all hubs.  I am registered at every hub in a 90 mile radius.  I am fully aware of how this works.   Proof. - I received my first dose in January

@nocl, good ideas. The problems are...not everyone is computer literate, particularly elderly, and not everyone has solid internet access, particularly the less fortunate, and again, the elderly.

Suggest you try MUSC. Their web site registration allows you to choose MUSC location, date and time and you make appointments for both first and second vaccine at the same time. I chose their Mt. Pleasant location; go there for shopping, dining, day out, etc. so why not go for my health.  I received my first vaccine 2 weeks ago; getting the 2nd. vaccine next Monday. Available dates change so keep checking it if the dates offered are far out.

That is why you support multiple input methods.  You take some  locations, which will have computer literate people such as hospitals and the county department of health, allow people to call them and have them enter them into the registry (using a PR campaign to provide the numbers).  The system could allow people to designate a point of contact (son, daughter, care giver, etc) to function as a point of contact for notifications.  We did this over multiple countries in 12 languages.

Again that is not what I am talking about.  If they were doing what I was talking about you would only register once, not in each and every county within a 90 mile range.

I agree.   It is a nightmare.    Then they have the problem of not householding the applications.  No matter what we are always assigned different days at remote locations.  So then you sit on hold for an hour to get permission arrive together. This is why I made the proposition to have neighborhood vaccination sessions

Thank you so much!  Just made Appointments for April 3rd for 1st Dose and April 24th for 2nd Dose at Mt. Pleasant for myself and my Husband.   It’s not a bad drive for us and have been to Mt. Pleasant numerous times over the years for the Vet Specialist.  I’ll keep checking back to see if anything earlier opens up but very happy to be scheduled!  
 

Did you have to wait a long time or were they pretty good with the Appt. times?  My BIL and Brother were 3 hours in a Car Line in NC waiting for their Dose.

They do a terrific job! They call 1 week ahead (got my call tonight for next Monday) and also send you an email reminder. When I got there for my 1st. vaccine, the line had about 12-15 people in it. Everyone had a mask on and maintained distancing from each other. I was in line 10 minutes, got the vaccine and then sat in another room for 15 min. to assure no reaction.  Everyone was very polite and it was done in a very orderly, polite manner. All you have to show is your driver's license.

If you want, try their website early in the morning and also later at night, the availability of appointments seem to fluctuate.  I had told a friend of mine about the site, she got on and was able to get an appointment in Florence for 4 days later.

Second Pfizer dose today, but DH not until Friday, and that is if SC allocations are available to our hospital system. We are receiving the least amount of vaccine per capita in the 50 states.........

Curious on your source for that...its done by population. For example, California gets 8.9% of each distribution. That is the share based on California's share of the US population. Keep in mind the distribution is based on 50 states and 18 territories and other types of US "properties", like Guam, DC and Puerto Rico.

Our governor has said there have been some distribution problems at the federal level.  Nothing major but enough to warrant a phone call by him to the White House.  They do expect the JNJ vaccine soon.   Once it is received they will have the ability to use super hubs but more importantly have vaccine delivered to more remote rural areas which are underserved because of the technology required by Moderna and Pfizer

Just reporting what we are being told at the state level......we live in one of the more populous areas in the state. I have not done a deep dig or looked at the territories. The numbers we have seen are for the 50 states, not including territories and have not inquired that deeply. Not looking for the usual back and forth that is happening here all too often since we are all bored. Just stating what we are dealing with here. Not further comment required from any source......

It shows the distributions by state.  If you roll your curser over the map you can see the individual states.  As best as I can tell, South Carolina is indeed the lowest state per capita.

The Northern Mariana Islands have received almost 4 times more per capita than South Carolina.  In fact, most of the US territories are significantly higher in doses received per capita than the 50 states.

Good news in Oklahoma:

Update = Oklahoma will begin the next group on Feb 22.  This is teachers, school workers, etc. plus those under 65 with health issues.  Good news IMO.

We were humming along with Texas being the first state to surpass 3 million vaccinated last week.  Then the ice hit.  Since many of our North Texas hubs are drive through outdoors they have been shut down today and likely for the rest of the week.  The indoor locations will continue to give vaccines.

Alabama just started to vaccinate 65 and older starting on 2/10/21, my wife and I received the Pfizer shot at Southeast Health that day, Today schools were closed so teachers (regardless of age) can be vaccinated if they choose. . County Health  Department is now calling those on wait list to make appointments (most likely Moderna vaccine)

Local hospitals learned the lessons from Florida and required appointment times, we were in and out in under 30 minutes - have a classmate from Daytona Beach that waited in line for 17 hours for her first shot !!!

DH and I got our second injections today. No line - just kept moving as if on a conveyor belt! Except for the 15 minute wait time afterwards.

I was surprised. I was emailed Monday to schedule my second appointment.  I had a business meeting out of town and had to decline.  By declining my name was put back in the hat.  Today the meeting was canceled.  I called for an appointment and they still had plenty of availability.   I guess it is either getting easier or people are not going back for their second appointment

When DW finally found availability for us, she was able to book at 5 PM. She said if the only availability was during school hours she would have taken it. And she never takes a day off of school, but for this she would have. Our second appointments, next Friday, are also after school.
