There WILL be some cases, even on majority 95% vaccinated cruises. You have people living in close quarters for a week, visiting poorer countries and mingling/dining/drinking/touring with locals, plus lowered immune system from traveling in general and lots of crew members you interact with. Follow the science and guidelines. No need to overreact and toss people from the ship. That's an even worse PR nightmare. It makes zero sense and isn't even within the realm of what CDC recommends for vaccinated folks. Besides, the vast majority of kids are asymptomatic or have common cold ailments. Tossing them and their vaccinated parents overboard like diseased trash is ridiculous anyway you try and slice it, yes, even yielding to capitalism. My thoughts on this are that I agree there will be cases I just dont subscribe to them being "Super Spreader" events like in the beginning that is being touted by some as a "valid" reason to only include vaccinated individuals. As to interacting with the crew i dont see this as a factor as the current standard is that all crew members will be vaccinated. The number of cases in any event would be a math problem that would have to take into account number of total passengers, number vaccinated vs number unvaccinated, number of hours of close contact per unvaccinated individual, etc etc etc. Im certainly not going to attempt the math. I personally would guestimate that the actual number of individuals that i had prolonged (3-5 hours) close contact with on a cruise ship would be under 25 at any given time (usually when im in the casino playing poker) and I sincerely doubt that i would come in contact with "everyone" for 3-5 hours each on a typical cruise. Maybe if they attended the T-shirt sale? So if you have an unvaccinated individual that does test positive what are the odds that they would be only in contact with other unvaccinated individuals 100 percent for the length of time it takes to pass the virus on? Certainly perhaps their inner group but even in a theatre someone sitting on the other side of the venue would not be in any inherent "danger" of catching the virus unless the show went on for 4 days and no one moved then it would go person to person and eventually get around to them. The Cruise line would have to be on top of their game with respect to Contact Tracing as well. Again just my thoughts.

What happens when someone is positive? Yes, but that is the US requiring the test, not Mexico. There is no requirement for entrance into Mexico. The resorts we have stayed at had a deal, where they give you a free COVID test a couple days before heading back to the US at the resort. If you pop positive, they let you quarantine for free at the resort for the 10 days, and have insurance to cover your flights. My whole family had Covid already, so knowing that it was not really an issue having to worry about testing positive, but still a very solid offer from the resorts. With the uptick in travel now, I don't know if they are still offering this for new bookings or not.

Wondering if the Cruise Ship will offer that or if i have to wait till after the cruise to get the test which means i would need to stay additional days in a hotel to wait for the results as well as ensuring my return flight date took that into account. Parents will make the best decision for their own children I would trust. Who do you think should be "strongly encouraged/recommended" to get the vaccine... just older adults with co-morbidities? Tom I think that children who have underlying medical conditions that would put them in a high risk category might benefit from the vaccination. Healthy children have extremely low risk of severe covid symptoms. "Among 376 adolescents hospitalized during January 1–March 31, 2021, who received a positive SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test result, 172 (45.7%) were analyzed separately because their primary reason for admission might not have been directly COVID-19–related (Table). Among the 204 patients who were likely admitted primarily for COVID-19–related illness, 52.5% were female, 31.4% were Hispanic or Latino (Hispanic), and 35.8% were non-Hispanic Black. Overall, 70.6% had one or more underlying medical conditions, the most common of which were obesity (35.8%), chronic lung disease, including asthma (30.9%), and neurologic disorders (14.2%); 31.4% of patients required ICU admission and 4.9% required invasive mechanical ventilation, but there were no associated deaths."https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7023e1.htm

Moreover, muzzling children who have a 99.9999999% survival rate is outrageous, IMHO. Couldnt agree more. I will say, at least in our area, since the mask mandate was lifted, almost no kids aren't wearing masks in stores/etc. Obviously they aren't vaccinated. Kind of a strange grey area I guess. Obviously this is different dynamic than on a cruise.

Yes that certainly adds an additional level of complexity for returning to Canada. Maybe there would be enough folks in a similar situation to have a stock of tests onboard, or maybe at one of the ports that would give with that timeline....

That's a very interesting question. For the Royal, Celebrity, and NCL cruises that were/are scheduled outside the U.S., they were offering rapid tests (free) just prior to disembarkation that would work for the CDC and the airlines for flights back to the U.S. as long as the passenger didn't linger too long post-cruise. For the U.S. cruises, the CDC is currently not requiring any tests upon return if your ship is considered "fully vaccinated". So for international guests that somehow got to the U.S. (like you) and got on this cruise, maybe the cruise company could find an extra test for you? Maybe free, maybe not so free? It's certainly worth asking about and worth keeping after your chosen company until they give a definitive answer - which will probably change next week! 😂
