Nothing is stored ON the Medallion. It only contains information to allow the computer on the ship to identify you. Your info is stored on the computer.

I'm concerned about someone picking up my medallion and going to the casino or gift shop. Is there a way to have the medallion without linking a credit card to it?

Just as JF retired RRT said.  Your personal information is NOT stored on the Medallion.  It is the same as if you had an old card, but more secure.  When you walk into a restaurant, casino or store, etc….it works with the computer

and your picture pops up.  They can identify who you are.  This is for security. That’s  why, if you lose it, doesn’t matter

they will just issue you a new one.
The only people that might lose them, would be if it’s in your pocket and falls out.  DH lost his a couple of times.  So, he uses a lanyard, bracelet or clip now.

This is covered on the Princess website under Medallion Q & A.

Hope this helps.

You could put a cash deposit on your account...after you board. It would likely be a sizeable amount (depending on the length of the cruise). However, you'd still need to put your CC info on the Medallion to complete check-in.

In addition, IF someone did manage to use your Medallion fraudulently (remember your photo comes up on the servers/crew members tablet), your cash would be spent. A credit card has methods to reimburse you if a fraudulent charge occurs.

Princess has a CC associated with your on board stateroom folio.  That is where charges go.  If you lost the Medallion and someone successfully charged something, you would need to review your account status at the time of receiving a replacement (once they replace, the original is deactivated).

The danger isn't from them using your card in the gift shop, casino, or bar. The danger is that they can get into your cabin after the system conveniently shows them where it is on one of the big public displays. Use the safe.

We always use the safe.  I did not see my cabin number pop up on the display.

Has anyone lately seen this?

You can switch over to “safety only” if you don’t want to take advantage of the

medallion options.
Don’t create a tagalong, those identify you and pop up

on every screen.  😂  But of course it is a special design of your own.

The Medallion is a lot more secure than the old card was.  We really liked it and had 4 cruises with it.

Oh yes, the portals are used for navigation, I believe.  I never used

it to find our cabin.  Just my DH and to

hook up with our friends.
But, I used my phone to do that, not

the portals.

Based on an old promo video I had seen, I thought they had a feature where you could display the route to your cabin on the public display. Hopefully they just dropped the feature when they realized how serious a vulnerability it introduced. We sail in 3 weeks; ask me again when we're onboard.

Yes, I remember that.  You sail before me, so let me know.  Have a great cruise!

Apologies for earlier complaint about entering birthdate for Passport. App does allow Year scroll and month scroll. I did not notice two separate scroll  points. Also app once more allows Photo to be selected from Album and uploaded. Still does not allow Passport to be Scanned !

Based on previous observation, it's unlikely they could actually make it work.

Still sad to see that there are a few folks still having problems with the app.  It worked perfectly during our 10-day Panama Canal voyage a couple of weeks ago.

What did you use the App for? I think the main problems are pre-cruise entering data rather than shipboard functions. As stated above, the app still cannot scan a Passport and it seems many cannot enter Credit Card info. I find it hard to imagine myself using any features when onboard. Not being critical of you, I am just not a big smart phone user.

Thank you in advance for allowing me to vent🙂. Have a cruise booked for Dec 26th and am trying to get us squared away on the OM app. I can log into the app and it shows my picture and the number of days till our cruise, so it knows what our booking number is. When I start the checklist items, it says I need to enter my booking number. When I do, the app says "That booking number has already been claimed". Just spent 60 minutes on the phone with Princess. Their response was that it is a known problem and it may get fixed in the next app release which usually occurs ever 3-4 weeks. So there is a known application problem that is preventing the application from working and it might be fixed before our cruise leaves? What company operates this way? If this was a normal software development cycle, this Tier 1 incident would be worked 24X7 until resolution, then an emergency release published ASAP. The check in process can be done at the terminal, however it is going to be a nightmare if everyone has to do it that way. Venting ended, thanks!

I have a Note 10,

I can enter everything last night, except taking a security photo (says: error, try again later) I tried the scan function for passport entry, doesnt even load up the camera front nor back. II have to manual enter the passport info

Using iPad and latest iOS, Scan Passport, asks for permission to use camera, goes all the way to last step 'Point Camera at Passport' but only shows a white screen with a back button.

Try logging in using booking number, name, and birthdate.

This is thread number 3 of problems, after the first 2 got big and were closed.

This thread has nearly 1500 posts.

I'm sure glad it is only a few folks having problems.

This has almost surpassed butter.

I read several pages of this thread but couldn't find the answer to my question.

So I apologize if this has been answered.

Which questions on the checklist have to be answered to move one to the green lane from the blue (which I think you need to get a boarding time)? When I go to the medical list all of the questions seem to be concerning the two weeks before the cruise.

So does that mean no boarding times are given out until two weeks prior?

@chamimaGreen Lane appears before 24 hour health check in.

Arrival times are all over the place.  Some have opened 60, 45, 30, 14 days before cruise.  No standard.

Some are having trouble entering credit cards (blue lane).

I believe everyone is having random errors that prevent them from completing the Medallion Class app.  No rhyme nor reason.

Nope. I had issues early on but sent my issues via email to the Medallion folks. I was polite and detailed. They looked at my issues and suddenly the app worked. I'm not saying this worked for everybody but I didn't go through the Princess phone number. The folks who answer that line are rarely people who have even set foot on a cruise ship let alone sailed. In general, you might as well ask for assistance from a house plant.

I understand that there are folks who are having extreme issues getting the app to work and I feel sorry for them but it can sometimes be remediated by using the proper channels and not being all "pi$$#d off) when communicating. It also helps to not try to address issues via the "regular" Princess phone staff. For the most part those folks don't know enough to even understand the issue let alone address it in a coherent manner.

Our cruise allowed us to select our boarding time a month prior to the cruise. Luckily, we've been in the green lane for a few weeks. Heading out tomorrow and sail on Wednesday. We'll see how that goes. It's been a wild ride to negotiate this app and can't believe everything is still in place on the app. Funny thing is that when I went to pay for wifi on the app; it wiped out my address and I had to re-enter to purchase wifi..patience is certainly a virtue with Princess....
