Rare puppycanducruise Posted July 22, 2021 #76 Share Posted July 22, 2021 @Cruising-along Sending prayers for you cousin - hope she won't need more surgery. And prayers for your friend, I hope it's only a "mild" dose of COVID. @atexsixGlad you found a kitty sitter. @kazuToo bad about the rodent problem, it happened to a neighbour, those critters are every where. @dfishIf it were me, I'd buy a new top. 😉 12
dfish Posted July 22, 2021 #77 Share Posted July 22, 2021 Thanks for all the suggestions. I did buy some OxyClean today on the way home from the pool. I made a strong solution in a bucket and the top is now soaking in that. I'll leave it for a day or two. I remember OxyClean is what got some berry stains out of a pair of white jeans a number of years ago. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will do the trick.
USN59-79 Posted July 22, 2021 #78 Share Posted July 22, 2021 From what I have read, coating automobile wires with a soy based rather than plastic covering is one of the unintended consequences of being "green". I do have a "green" car, a Prius, but I keep it in our rodent free garage and have not had a problem. I spent some time on chat with HAL yesterday trying to learn if I need to get a visa for the Philippines before I leave in February or if we can get it onboard, or if it is really needed as it never was in the past. HAL says it is not needed, but the State Dept and the Philippine Embassy in Wash. DC say otherwise. In fact, the Embassy says, as of 21 June 2021 that foreigners should not visit the P.I. The State Dept say travel there is not advised due to both COVID and street crime. Think I will wait about 3 months and look at the issue again. 14

Traditionally in the summer we leave it out to leave room for all the cushions to keep them dry during rain storms or plants if we have tropical storm warning. That strategy may have to change 😉 12 minutes ago, USN59-79 said: I spent some time on chat with HAL yesterday trying to learn if I need to get a visa for the Philippines before I leave in February or if we can get it onboard, or if it is really needed as it never was in the past. Rare LawDog61 Posted July 22, 2021 #82 Share Posted July 22, 2021 Hammocks seem to be one of the minor themes of the day. I have often speculated that it would be a nice feature to be able to string a hammock on a ships balcony and have the afternoon snooze out side, hearing the rush of the water. 9

durangoscots Posted July 22, 2021 #84 Share Posted July 22, 2021 Posted earlier today, but I think it has disappeared off into the wilds of the Cyber World. So again, and excuse me if this is a repeat. First of all - Storoway and the Isle of Lewis.... one of my favorite places. I spent about 6 months over a 2 year period there doing archaeology work many years ago. Love the place, the prehistory and history and the people. Have not been there on cruise. Have been back a number of times, but not recently. On the good news side of things.... our shelter Director is out of ICU and may be able to go home in a few days. It looks like he will not need to continue Dialysis. The problem is not blood sugar but they are not sure what it is. He has future appointments to be arranged with a urologist and also a dermatologist. There seems to have some of sort of blockage.... which resulted in all sorts of nasties backing up. Anyway, things are looking up. I hear thunder so maybe we will get some rain!!!! Susan 23

aliaschief Posted July 22, 2021 #86 Share Posted July 22, 2021 Just watched Seth Wayne live on FB on-board the Nieuw Amsterdam with Cruise Director Valerie. Here’s how Muster Drill will be done. Once you get rid of your carry on’s, one has to go by their Life Station and have there card swiped. Watch the life drill video on your cabin TV and then listen to Captain address. No more mass gathering outside. The question was asked do you have to arrive at your boarding pass allotted time. If your five minutes early no problem but if you arrive 40-60 minutes early you’ll probably going to be asked to wait outside. 13
baltic17 Posted July 22, 2021 #87 Share Posted July 22, 2021 Thanks for the Daily and all how contribute and/or enjoy it. Prayers for all on the care list and those who need them. Best wishes to all. We have been to Stornoway. We took the ferry from Uig, Isle of Skye to Tarbert, Isle of Harris and spent a week exploring Harris and Lewis before departing from Stornoway on the ferry back to Ullapool, Scotland. This was our last trip in August 2009 before we moved back to the US from England in September 2009. I was delighted to go to the home of Harris Tweed and made several lovely purchases, including yardage that I have made DH a lovely vest from and several wonderful throw pillows. The journey to Harris. Shopping.... Touring around Harris. Visiting one of the many 'black houses' on Lewis. Touring around Lewis The Callinish Standing Stones. This was the sunny day when we actually got a few pictures. It had poured the day before. Leaving on the morning ferry. Our B&B hostess had left us a lovely take away breakfast as the ferry left well before breakfast time. 26
