Okay, this southwestern desert rat had never heard the term rabbit rabbit rabbit before so I goggled it and goggle says it is a Good Luck Superstition from England and the United States. I always thought that rabbit meant the small furry cotton tailed creatures that live under my shed. I learned something today.

At 80 I probably qualify as elderly and I use my age to my advantage frequently. Love coffee but am to lazy to make homemade cookies.

@Sharon in Arizona I love The Fish Market in San Diego and Alioto's in San Francisco. I don't know if either are open now.

On my first cruise/tour in Alaska (June 1989) we went on an excursion to Aleyeska. Unfortunately it was a freezing rain all day so we couldn't see the Mountain and were unable to photograph anything even using my husbands Canon AE1. Some day maybe I will go back.

Jane, yes the Fish Market is open (thank you Maxine!) and we have reservations at the Top of the Market for Saturday. Still looking for an Italian restaurant for lunch.

I’ll have to check out Alioto’s. Thanks for the recommendations.

Good morning, all Daily rabbits!  I haven't posted for a few days, busy thinking about other things, but I'm happy to see that @mamaofami's Sam is home, if tired.   And other good news, too, negative tests flying, and cruises starting up!

I have decided to start a thread about our cruise on Eurodam, although the cruise doesn't start until next Wednesday, people are already heading for Europe, and I'm hoping others on the roll calls will post about their experiences in the different countries we will be visiting.  But mainly about the ship, perhaps a bit of food porn?  If I have problems posting from the ship, Jacqui has kindly said she will help out!

I am SO looking forward to your live thread, Ann.  And yes, I will happily help if you need any.  If pics don’t want to load with the ship’s internet just send them to me and they will go up 😉. But, I suspect you will be fine.

You KNOW I am going to say food porn is always welcome 😉

I hope you both have an absolutely wonderful time 🥂

Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit!  And White Rabbit too just in case!  Happy first day of October to all!  Today should be a mix of sun and clouds with a high temp of no more than 84F.  It is 64F right now.  I'm a little late because of shampoo day.  I'm still feeling well which is a blessing.  Someone mentioned Aspartame or other artificial sweetners yesterday so I thought I might begin cutting back on the amount of Crystal Light I drink per day.  Usually that's about 3 glasses so I will cut that back and see if I continue to feel well.  But then I won't know what the reason is for the lack of stomach aches...what a dilemma!

I see Rich has posted about Wednesday being National Coffee Day and today being International Coffee Day.  There was some confusion about that.  My coffee drinking friends here don't need a day set aside for coffee to enjoy their favorite morning drink!

I have not been to Alyeska, Alaska and would enjoy seeing some photos of it, so please do so if you've ever been there.  Surely someone has!

So many topics to discuss today!  Today's quote is very nice.  The southern fried catfish is usually a winner.  We will be attending a Fish Fry dinner at DH's club Sunday night.  Neighbor Paul has joined the club too so we will see Paul and Brenda there as well.  No cooking for either of us so I'm sure we will enjoy our dinner.  I would appreciate some homemade cookies but don't have the ingredients (or initiative) to make any, so perhaps that will be presented as dessert at the Fish Fry Sunday.  Hope so!  International Day for the Elderly is a worthwhile cause and even though some people might call me elderly I don't feel like it yet.  Always young at heart I hope.  I haven't mentioned my DMIL in a while but she is still hanging in there at her nursing home in Missouri.  We have a very difficult time talking with her by phone now because she doesn't really speak much anymore.  In fact, most days she likes to sleep about 20 hours a day!  They have a terrible time getting enough food into her but when she does stir she wants something to drink and consumes whatever liquid they get for her.  She was actually awake long enough Wednesday to eat a hamburger and onion rings which the nursing staff has to feed to her.  And she mumbled a few words into the phone to speak with her younger sister in California.  Two years ago they talked almost every day.  So that's the report on her.  Still here but not a great quality of life these days.

@dfishso happy to hear the back pain has disappeared after the ablation procedure.  You must feel like a new woman!  @smitty34877that's not good news about DDIL being positive thought I am glad to hear it's a mild case for her.  Prayers your DS remains negative and prayers for all on our Care list today.  Cheers and a toast to all on the Celebration list, especially our cruisers.  Have a wonderful time!  @grapau27 looks like another lovely luncheon with your bride.  Thanks for sending the photos!

Hearing Hurricane Sam will miss land and stay at sea if all goes as projected.  Grateful for that but watch out for the surf and rip currents!

Today we are going to get our flu shots and run errands.  DH has a list.  Might as well do it all at the same time to save gas which is ridiculously expensive anymore.  That's all for now.  Enjoy your start to the weekend!

Thank you Sandi from us both.

Graham.

Sharon my sister lives in San Diego. You have to try Island Prime on Harbor Island. We've been many times and always good and beautiful outdoor seating on the water.

For Italian, we love Baci Restaurant on Morena. I'm not sure of the hours but pretty sure we've been for lunch a time or two. Can't recall our favorite on India Street in Little Italy,  but we've enjoyed Bencotto on several occasions.

Thank you Joy!  I'll check those out.  Crazy thing is we lived in San Diego way back in our other lifetime, aka our newlywed lifetime, but so many of those restaurants are no longer.  We probably won't go to Harbor Island, we want to stay walking distance from our hotel.

Good afternoon from a gray central Texas.  We had a noisy thunderstom come through last night, and it dumped 1.06 inches of rain in just a couple of hours.  We have had sprinkles off and on today, and may get more rain through tomorrow afternoon.

We took advantage of a break in the rain this morning and made a quick trip to the big box store and another store.  Still didn't find everything we were looking for.

I'm late posting today, but I read most of the Daily this morning on my android tablet, which has been acting up since yesterday afternoon.  It won't let me like any post, even after clearing the browser, reloading CC and turning the tablet off and back on.  DH has an identical tablet, and his works.  With the gremlins at work, I waited until I could get on my laptop to post.  Why take chances?

Even if it is International Coffee Day, I will pass on all coffee.  It's been a few months since I made homemade cookies, but that will wait for a two or three weeks, so we'll have cookies to munch on on our migration to Quartzsite.  We are beginning to get things organized and some maintenance on the motorhome done.  I don't have quite as much to hual out to the mh this fall, since I just left it on there when we got back in March.

Like many of us, I don't consider myself elderly, and don't feel that way, even if the mirror is beginning to say otherwise.  🤣  The elderly are still 10-15 years older than I am.  When the pandemic started and those older than 65 were hit the hardest, I resented them calling the group the elderly.

St Augustine's quote is interesting and thought provoking.

Even though I am a Texas southern girl, I'll pass on the fried catfish.  It is a staple in Texas, but I prefer grilled catfish.  I'll pass on the drink, but might try the wine since it is unoaked.

We have been to Alyeska several times, both on motorhome trips to Alaska and on the 14-day cruise that stopped in  Anchorage.  Alyeska is not a port, but a hotel, resort and ski hill.  It is located in the town of Girdwood, 40 miles southeast of Anchorage on the way to Whittier and Seward.  Unfortunately, my pictures are pre-digital.  DH is looking at his videos taken when we took the aerial tram to the top.

I just looked up the tram, and in the summer seniors (60-69) can ride for $26, and those 70+ for $18.  There are some good things about getting older.  😁

@smitty34877  Terry, sorry that your DDIL tested positive, and I hope she continues to have a mild case.

@dfish  Glad your back is still not bothering your sleep.

@mamaofami  Glad Sam is home and doing well.  Whatever your do, don't let your repair guys get away.  That kind of service is hard to come by these days..

@aliaschief Safe travels and bon voyage.

@kazu You hit the jackpot with the memes today.  👍

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, good news that you still are feeling well.

@ger_77  Gerry, congratulations on fixing the fountain.  Beautiful pictures of the fall foliage.

@durangoscots  Great to hear your area got rain and will get more.  Colorado and all the western US and Canada need it even more than we do.

@AncientWanderer  Sorry your friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, but it's good you are there to support her.  Hope they caught it early.

The world has righted itself. Phew. I could not reply without including EVERY POST at the bottom of it. I think Carol had that problem this week too. And the emojis were not even an option for me.

Debbie, @dfishso glad your pain free sleep was not a fluke!

Carol, @mamaofami, wonderful to hear that Sam made it home! And I agree with everyone - those service folk are hard to come by. Kudos to them. Let them know they are famous!

Sandi, @StLouisCruisers, happy to hear you are feeling better.

Joy, @Seasick Sailor, glad you were not hurt by the exploding wine bottle. But red wine.  Sigh.

Stay well everyone!

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Rabbit, white rabbit - yes, I remembered.  I also remembered we celebrated coffee a couple of days ago; I'll have another cup in a few minutes.  I have great respect for the elderly, but have you noticed that the elderly are always people who are at least 15 years older than ourselves?  Haven't made cookies in a while, so will get to doing that today.

The last little while we've had trouble with our fountain, having to fill it every couple of hours.  We initially thought it was leaking, so DH disassembled it, then set it on the patio with paper underneath and filled it.  No leak.  He checked for cracks, etc., but couldn't find anything.  Well yesterday, while he was out filming with the drone pilot, I decided to see what I could do.  It was nearly dry, so I took the pump out, made an adjustment or two (basically restricted the flow of water), settled it down and made sure it was level (for some reason it was tip-tilted to the left), filled it and set it to go.  Well guess what?  I fixed it!  Less splashing, and 1 fill of the tub meant it went all afternoon with very little loss of water - most of which was from the birds splashing about.  We used to have a friend (Cathy) who was very frugal and tried to fix everything about the house, so when DH came home, I told him I'd channeled my "inner Cathy" and fixed the fountain.  LOL

Speaking of DH and the drones, he said they'd captured some beautiful fall foliage footage (say that 3 times in a row!), and showed me a screen capture that I'd like to share with you.  What you can see is a lovely apple orchard set on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River about 1 hour north of Saskatoon.  The trees are beautiful at this time of year, I think!

190205732_RiverlandsImage.thumb.jpg.f9872c7db7eb90f2f42cf29fc751e018.jpg

I've only had catfish once and wasn't blown over by it, so I'll pass on today's menu.  It's Friday night, so that means pizza night at our house.  There's a new little pizza place across the city that is getting great reviews, so I think we'll place an order for pick up and see what it's like for ourselves.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Clinking the glasses together to celebrate all on the happy list.  Stay safe, wash your hands, wear your masks, be well, and hydrate!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

Gerry thanks for the drone photo of the beautiful fall colors and apple orchard.  They do amazing things with drones these days.  Kudos to your DH!

I was impressed with your taking on the fountain repair during your day spent at home alone.  They can be a lot of work to keep running and maintained, plus the filling up daily.  When the birds arrive for their bathing they can make quite a splash!

When we moved here 10 years ago we made the decision to not bring our two fountains with us.  We had a small one near the front door called sitting child.  That one was a child holding a jug of water, pouring it into a shell on its lap.  The shell provided a nice little bathtub for the birds.  The large fountain under the deck on the edge of the patio had room for a small flock of birds.  They had to find water somewhere didn't they?  Because of the weight and moving them so far adding to the cost of the move, we offered the two fountains at a discount price to the buyer of our home and they accepted.

Large one in the back yard.enhance

A photo I ran across of my DS's boys playing in the water.  Those two are 16 and 14 now!enhance

It was harder to find a digital photo of the little fountain.  This one is cropped so you can see it up close but a little blurry because of it.  I did love that little fountain.enhance

Do you have a photo of your fountain?  I would love to see it!

Yes, it’s a CC thing.  A bunch of us have had that issue on and off.  Appears CC doesn’t like Safari all the time (Ipad and Iphone users have been struggling with it).  When it happens I use Google Chrome which is a bit of a pain but it works.  Hopefully now, the CC gremlins are fixed 🤞

No, I had major problems yesterday with both Chrome and Safari.  Had to clear the browser history which I hate to do.  I think I might just have to resort to the PC from now on, but.....  Gosh, I really don't want to do that!  Logging out seems to be the only fix.

Made it to Seattle safely, on time and with luggage! Dinner tonight at Elliot’s Waterfront Seafood.

Staying at Marriott Waterfront with Celebrity Millenium docked across from our balcony.

Mount Ranier was beautiful during our final approach to SeaPac.

Good Morning, all!

Welcome, October...my birth month.  Ever since we moved to Central Florida (22 years ago), we have proclaimed the best months are April and October -- generally lower humidity and not hot, hot, hot.

We have appointments tomorrow at Walgreen's for our Pfizer booster AND our annual flu shots. 👍

We did our first Alaskan cruise/tour in June of 2002, on the Celebrity Summit, starting in Vancouver.  The first night of the land portion we stayed at the Alyeska Resort.  It was so beautiful up there, we went up to their Seven Glaciers Restaurant for a drink and looked out over the bare ski runs and the snow capped mountains.  Later that evening, we went into Girdwood for dinner at the Double Muskie Inn on the recommendation of our tour bus driver (whom we ran into having dinner with her husband who had driven from Anchorage to be with her before the start of our tour).  Sorry 😔, but that was pre-digital so no pictures to show unless I get inspired to try a dig some out and scan them.  Here are links to the Alyeska Resort and Double Muskie Inn.

Yes, Oct 1 is a day to celebrate here in central Florida as it marks the start of the lower humidity of autumn after the 4 solid months of summer.  Those with pools may disagree.

I just checked, and it's still not working.  I guess I'll have to turn on my iPad tonight.

Wow!  That’s definitely gremlins at work.  Chrome was the only reason I could post for a few days.  Maybe it has something to do with the main internet provider?  Weird.  Safari is working right now on the Ipad (for how long, I don’t know)

That’s really disappointing as I thought Google Chrome was the solution 😔
