We're joining Quest on the next cruise Jan 7th and looking to have as much information as possible to align expectations.  Here are a few questions that you may or may not be able to answer:

1.  Were the 12 positive cases relocated to the cabins on deck 4 that are glass-enclosed that were mentioned earlier in this thread?

2.  Were close contacts also identified and relocated to this same area?  Do you know how many close contacts?

3.  How many cabins are within the covid designated area?

4.  Will the positive cases remain on the ship (i.e. not put ashore at next port) as long as asymptomatic or only mind symptoms?

5. Can positive cases and/or close contacts resume normal cruise activities after some number of days + negative tests?

Don't expect you can answer all of these questions but looking for any information you can provide.

Thanks.

Ok, will give this a shot, hopefully others can chime in too.  BTW, current positive count is 13 Guests and 3 Crew, as of yesterday (30-Dec)…

1.  Were the 12 positive cases relocated to the cabins on deck 4 that are glass-enclosed that were mentioned earlier in this thread?

I BELIEVE SO, BASED ON COMMENTS BY THE CAPTAIN THAT THESE FOLKS WERE ISOLATING IN CABINS WITH SPECIAL “HEPA AIR FILTERS”, ALTHOUGH IT WAS NEVER SPECIFICALLY SAID THEY WERE ON DECK 4.

2.  Were close contacts also identified and relocated to this same area?  Do you know how many close contacts?

CAPTAIN’S ANNOUNCEMENTS INDICATED THAT CONTACT TRACING WAS DONE, BUT I DON’T RECALL ANY SPECIFICS ON HOW MANY IDENTIFIED OR IF THEY WERE ISOLATED TO SAME AREA.

3.  How many cabins are within the covid designated area?

I DON’T KNOW, HOWEVER, PREVIOUS POSTS SUGGESTED THAT MAXIMUM GUEST CAPACITY HAS BEEN REDUCED FROM ~690 TO ~600, SO IF YOU ASSUME DOUBLE OCCUPANCY, THAT WOULD BE ~45 CABINS???? PURE SPECULATION.

4.  Will the positive cases remain on the ship (i.e. not put ashore at next port) as long as asymptomatic or only mind symptoms?

DON’T KNOW, HAVEN’T HEARD ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS.

5. Can positive cases and/or close contacts resume normal cruise activities after some number of days + negative tests?

DON’T KNOW, HAVEN’T HEARD ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS.

HOPE THIS HELPS, A LITTLE BIT. 🚢😎

Thanks for the reply.  I realize it's a bit of a downer to have to address these questions while enjoying the cruise.  Sounds like everyone is doing everything possible to stay safe while still having a fantastic time.  We are eager to get onboard next week.

That's fine. I join most Azamara roll calls for cruises I'm on, but excursion prices for DIY in port isn't discussed that much from my experience. Maybe on other cruise lines it is.

Being new to Azamara, I find the Roll Calls are not active.  On other Roll Calls, people will give info on better deals and offer to organize them.

I think you are discovering that Azamara and its guests are different from other lines.

First of all recognise that the maximum onboard is c700 so compared to other lines far less people posting and even less interested in organising trips.  Roll calls are much more restrained - Azamara is not a cruise line for slot pulls (no casino) or bar crawls (much fewer venues).  Cabin crawls are not part of the culture.  Some guests come in pre organised groups of previous travellers so they do their tour research privately.  Many Azamara guests have sizeable onboard credits and as there is so much already included, they go on the shore excursions to use their OBC so there is less interest in organising private trips.  I would not hold out much hope for a more active roll calls in the current climate - what's the point in even starting to think about it as many ports do not allow independent touring.

Is any cruise line posting its Covid figures on Facebook - I don't think so.  But as being reported here, the Captains on Azamara are being very open about their case numbers in their daily announcements.  That is the style, we found the same behaviour if there was noro on board - very open reporting of figures.

On the Quest Dec 13-23 cruise there was one couple who tested positive and were quarantined in the special area.  Contract tracing via the ships camera network showed no close contact with other passengers.  The Captain announced that and I spoke with the head of security at the meet the crew program.

If my memory serves correctly, the couple had another two B2B cruises booked but were made to disembark before that and could not continue with their plans.

We were also on the Dec 13-23.  (GREAT CRUISE)  Your memory is correct, the Couple that was positive disembarked on the 23rd.

I have been having such trouble with CC! I get error messages when I‘be tried to like posts (Anne and Phil and Jeffrey’s last posts). Consider yourselves liked!

Bit of a disappointment today in Barbados. We were scheduled to arrive at 8:00, so I had a Viator tour booked for an 8:30 meet up and 9:00 departure. We stayed late off the coast of St. Lucia and then I found we were not arriving in Barbados until 9:00. I tried unsuccessfully to reach both Viator and the local cruise operator. We were first in line at the gangway, but couldn’t reach our meetup point until 9:30, and of course they were gone. We took a cab into town, but not knowing the place, we didn’t stay long. Now back on the ship on the pool deck with an Aperol spritz. Silver lining? No fighting for lounge chairs!

A shame you did not make your tour- you really need to know where you are going in Barbados so I can see why you did not stay in town for long. For us Barbados is DHs regular pilgrimage to the cricket ground......

I hear you! In the past there used to be port representatives onboard with maps, etc. Not happening right now. But felt pretty safe for the short time we were ashore. Everyone masked, temperature checks, mandatory sanitizing every 10 feet - lol

No criticism, just an observation.  Good to hear it felt so safe.  I am sure these islands want to see tourism continue so will do what they can to keep it all safe

That happens on some Azamara roll calls too - often depends if there are people on the roll call who are willing to organise tours. I’ve organised tours on a few cruises using the roll calls.

Viator's local tour supplier should have known that your ship was arriving late and waited.

IMO...Barbados is one of the safest, cleanest and friendliest islands in the entire Caribbean although downtown Bridgetown can use some TLC.

On the previous cruise, twere maps of the ports on the table under the stairs on the 4th floor. Came in handy.

I agree!  I hope Viator will do right and refund if it was a shore tour.  If it wasn't specifically a shore tour though, they may have had others on the tour and couldn't wait.

I agree.  We moved from this cruise to a later one.  I hoped Azamara would be transparent with the press.  If I weren't on CC, I would know nothing about this item.

I am not sure what you mean transparent with the press - Azamara are being open about the actually figures but NO cruise line is going to the press each day and publishing their figures - (I don't count facebook as the press by the way 🙂 ).  And if they were would anyone believe them?  You can report data in so many ways - there is an excellent book, lies, damned lies and statistics which taught me so much

We will be leaving Barbados earlier than planned tonight - 8:00 pm, giving up our berth to Cunard’s Queen Mary, who is canceling the rest of their holiday cruise and sending everyone home. We will hang out in the harbor until after the fireworks.

WOW!!!  Cancelling the rest of the cruise!

That is probably why the captain is giving up our berth for them. Looks like they will be going straight home though. Wonder why they would have to take on crew here? It obviously wasn’t part of the original plan.

The problems with CC have been going on for several months now.

Every two or three days I have to click on the secure connection lock (towards top left of the screen) and click on "Clear cookies and site data"

Also log off and log back on again. Hope this helps with likes and response to the comments of others.

Stay safe & well on the rest of your cruise!
