I remember that shopping complex in Cartagena.  It was hot and stuffy and the vendors were so pushy.  We got back on the bus.  I did buy a tshirt which shrunk when I washed it .

Yeah, I didn't stick around long there since I don't like shopping much.  And I hate when that happens to t-shirts.  I bought two Panama t-shirts on the Westerdam and they both shrunk, too!!  Sometimes you can't win.🤷‍♀️

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday!  I thought I was going to be on page 2 today because I started reading the Daily at 8:00 am. Instead when I first started reading it was 3 pages and “Hot”!  It always cracks me up when I see that.

I was in CC jail off and on yesterday. I tried to post several times but couldn’t. I did read though.

Prayers to those on the Care list and extra prayers for Jacqui and Jose. Thank you for your lists Roy.

My DM always made French toast for us on Sunday when I was young and sprinkled powdered sugar over. I started making a grownup version that I saw Ina Garten make with Grand Mariner and strawberries, yum. I haven’t made it in years.

We went to Cartegena on our Panama Canal cruise in 2000 on the Volendam. We took a tour that was similar to @StLouisCruisers, but we didn’t go to the old houses. Maybe it’s changed but I would only do a tour there based on what we were told. I wouldn’t have felt safe walking around on our own. It was very hot and humid and we were happy to get back to the ship.

Have a great day everyone!

@StLouisCruisers, thanks for all the photos of Cartegena.  We did a tour similar to yours.  I was going to post photos if nobody else did.  Yours, as usual, are way better than mine, so I won't post any.  We really enjoyed our day there.  It was colorful and memorable, although very, very rainy.  The water was high in the streets and our poor guide couldn't coax anybody to cross the street.  Most stayed by the bus.  We plowed on through with him, although the water probably was pretty germy.

Thanks also for sharing what you read about the new variant.  They kept saying how contagious it is, but nothing about how sick it makes you.  Good to hear it's not too bad.

Maxine, it's incredible what a difference the weather makes in our experiences in all these ports.  I wish you could have had a nicer day!

I agree, good to hear even though pretty contagious that the course of the sickness isn't too bad (unless you have underlying health issues, are older, and haven't been vaccinated yet).  I did hear some had a slight cough briefly.  I think if we actually contracted Omicron variant we wouldn't even know it.  Aches and pains, fatigue and a slight cough - sounds like every day to the majority of us.

Trying to post, hope this goes thru.

We got our third shot on Friday, no reactions. Vaccine site was busy as it was the first day in Ontario for 5 to 11 year olds.

Christmas tree is up, snow on the ground overnight.

prayers to all that need them and condolences to those that have lost a family member. It makes the holidays difficult.

be safe, wear a mask, wash your hands.

Debbie it's beautiful!  I noticed your lace valance.  It reminds me of some curtains I saw in Brugge.  So nice!

I bought those in Alsace, France one year when I was visiting my sister.  I wanted something that was in the ecru/beige family as the walls are beige.  I love them and they are so easy to wash.   Just throw them in the machine and hang when they are done.  I hang them up damp and they dry beautifully.

It's great they're so easy to care for.  No delicate hand washing is a real plus.

They both are/were Alaskan Malamutes so bigger than a Husky. Sam is nine and Juno was nine at the time of her photo as well. I have had people ask if Sam is a wolf.

I was a  westsider and always a patient Cub fan.  Patience was rewarded in 2016.

I love them too.  Even better that you got them in Europe!

Father, my mothers family lived in Chicago. They immigrated from Bohemia. My great grandfather was a farmer and got in the wrong line at Ellis Island. Ended up working in a foundry in Chicago. My grandparents lived on Kedzie Avenue, same house they married and passed away in.

Where were they on Kedzie Avenue?   I always identified you with Algonquin, until you had the good sense to move to Texas.

LOL..... I scored a great deal on an emerald pendant....our tour guide managed to negotiate a lower price on it.  We had done no research on emeralds so it was kind of a crap shoot.  Took it to our local gem appraiser when we got home & it appraised for over twice as much as we had paid.

Truly lovely, Debbie.  What a find!  I had a friend who bought sheers in Switzerland -- and like yours, so much nicer than what is available here.  Good reminder to take along measurements of certain things when traveling.

Really love your window and tree.

Good morning, all! It’s too late for breakfast, but French toast grilled cheese sandwiches are now on today’s lunch menu! It’s unlikely we’ll see the Red Planet tonight. The rain is coming down in torrents, and hasn’t stopped yet. There may be a few hours lull between systems, with the heaviest one forecast for Tuesday. We shall see.

We are on Salt Spring now. Enough water was pumped out that the Trans Canada through Abbottsford was open yesterday and we made a break for it before it has a chance to reflood. It is very surreal driving past all those familiar farms and seeing the buildings rising out of a lake. The water had already dropped a couple of feet by the time we saw it.AFAEEFF7-8A46-4DD1-AFD0-46973D1CEBC8.thumb.jpeg.5b8fe6e4b90b12eddc84dda647c7c67e.jpeg

Nothing I can do will make this right side up.

The previous day sunset through the mist over the the flooded valley was beautiful but strange.

Stay safe, everyone.
Happy Sunday, and May time bring you back to a BHB!

Father, I was young when my grandparents passed. I seem to remember Keeler Ave? My grandmother gave us money to go to the corner for kolaches at the bakery, and warned us to NEVER cross the street into the Italian neighborhood!

I have been a die hard Cubs fan since early age. We had season tickets to Cubs and Blackhawks. As a teenager we would hop the train into the city. Today.. no...

My great uncle bought a vacation property to get out of the city. Algonquin.  When my great grandparents needed extra care, they also moved to Algonquin. Then my great aunt moved, then everyone except grandparents moved to Algonquin.  I moved away in 1974 to California, then Arizona,  Montana, Idaho and hoping finally (because we love it here) Georgetown.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily. Happy Hanukkah this evening to those who celebrate it.

Mmm, love French toast. I haven't written a letter on paper in a while. A salute to Mars.

Interesting quote.

The meal sounds good. I'll pass on the wine.

I have been to Cartegena on my Panama Canal cruise, LA to NYC. I'll post some pics separately.

We've had some snow, but mainly on the grass. North of here got several inches. I'm starting to get my ingredients together to make my German fruit bread. But not sure I should start the 2-day process, as I don't know what all will be involved with my friends MOHS surgery and reconstruction. He may need me to stay with him, or stay with me for a day or two.

@kazu You and DH are in my prayers.

@JAM37 I'm glad to hear your eye is doing better.

@dfish I'm glad that Sue made it home safely. Your tree is beautiful.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for the news on John.

@cunnorl My condolences to you, DH and the entire family on the passing of his sister.

@mamaofami Happy Hanukkah!

@superoma Thanks for sharing your lovely tree.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe and wear your mask.
