Why do most of the staterooms on Carnival look so run down?

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm being a little opinionated here, but the cabins look outdated and the bathroom isn't that great either since the shower has a curtain and not a door. I also feel that the color of the vanity doesn't look great either. What do you think though?

The outdated colors or gaudy decor (especially in the common areas) does not bother me, but I don't like it when the staterooms have showerheads held in place with tape, obvious damage and rust, leaking sprinkler heads, broken hinges, loose tiles in the pool, etc.

I guess I don't mind the older ships for shorter cruises, but if I'm going to stay a week or longer, I definitely favor a ship like Mardi Gras.

It doesn't look that bad to me. How much did your cruise cost and what ship is this? Never mind, Vista I see. Cruising is like Vegas, there are options for any budget and if you want higher end (think Cosmo vs Bally's) there are options. The vista class ships aren't even that old.

It looks fine to me, but I tend to focus on other things.  The shower doors on the Mardi Gras are very nice and so much better than shower curtains.  That entire ship looks great.

I think anyone turned off by certain appearances should give the Mardi Gras a try.  The decor is very tasteful and everything is new.

I can't really see anything to complain about in the pictures. But then these pictures would not show stains, tears, scuffs and things like that. If those were the problems you would need to take closer pictures. If those were not the problems then you just don't like the style. I don't like the suction toilets but I'm still sailing since it it such a minor thing.

If I remember correctly, Carnival has staterooms shipped prefab (mostly) and they are installed as units into the ships.  It is my understanding that they've used the same build for a very, very long time.  Even with an updated color scheme, the rooms do appear like they are from an older era.

Mardi Gras uses a newer, more updated build that is likely the standard going forward.  Of course the trade off here is that the newer style is also a bit smaller.

I have no problem with these rooms, as they are spacious and suit our needs just fine.  But I do agree that this style is a bit dates

Youre basing your opening on pictures. Ive been on the Vista twice. It is not run down at all. Like if if you would have chosen one of the older ships you may have an argument but not this ship. BTW pretty much all the bathrooms look like that. Not much you can do with a cruise ship bathroom

It's sad that all of these ships look like a European hotel from the 90's...

I hope you realize why you are making our day!!! 😃

Yes. Welcome to Cruise Critic. Everyone sees the word critic and some feel that it is a necessary part of a post.

More to your point, as others have said, there are much nicer ships and much nicer cabins. If Carnival doesn't suit your tastes, there are many other cruise lines. As was also pointed out, most of the time, you do get what you paid for.

This whole post is about as misleading as watching network news!

First, your title suggests that most of the rooms look "so run down;" which is a super broad statement considering the number of ships that Carnival has.

Second, You say 'run down' but didn't provide any evidence of that, only complaints about Carnival's choice in decor and color... nothing in your post supports 'run down'.

Third, you aren't even speaking from your own experience... you are using images and photos from public websites and news stories that are several years old.

Finally, you literally joined CC right before posting this garbage... spam much?

Amazing... that hair dryer tho!

This post is just amusing.... older ships have older decor, newer ships have newer decor.  That's how things work, unless they refurb an older ship.  Is it clean?  That's the important point here - it's just like a hotel, would you rather book an old Motel 6 or a brand new W built last fall?  Obviously we would all love to have the W, but sometimes we can only afford (or are perfectly happy with) the Motel 6.

Tastes change, and decor follows.

I agree that the 'most of the staterooms look XYZ' statement is pretty ridiculous - Carnival has a heck of a lot of ships and a heck of a lot of categories - I'd say very few look dated anymore.
